Benedict Cumberbatch: Sherlock series three in doubt due to actors and writers' commitments BBC drama Sherlock is in danger of being delayed, with PBS executive Rebecca Eaton saying that due to Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Steven Moffat's busy schedules it is 'getting harder and harder to do another season'. (METRO)
Eaton confirmed series 3 of the highly successful Arthur Conan Doyle adaptation would consist of a maximum of three episodes – as with previous seasons – because its stars and writers are so busy with other projects.
She said: 'Steven [Moffat] crafts them, and Mark [Gatiss] writes some of them. 'It's a lot of work, and [Steven] also does Doctor Who and he worked on Tintin, so there couldn't be more than three.'
PBS broadcasts Sherlock in the United States and will air the second series - shown in the UK in January - from May 6. The network's exec added the scheduling difficulties could be so severe that Sherlock's third outing may be postponed.
Eaton added to Collider: 'It's getting harder and harder to do another season, not just because Benedict and Martin are getting such high profiles, but Steven and Mark are busy and in demand.'
