The beloved author and broadcaster told his legion of Twitter followers: 'M'coll Hugh Laurie and I are cooking up a project together.

'We will be working again soon. Sorry to be mysterious but more news when I can.'

Fry affectionately refers to Laurie as 'm'coll' – or 'm'colleague' – having worked with him many times throughout his TV career, on programmes such as sketch show A Bit of Fry & Laurie and sitcom Jeeves and Wooster.

The sesquipedalian presenter's time has been taken up with hosting QI, authoring books and appearing in films over the past decade, while Laurie played the acclaimed lead role in US medical drama House and indulged his love of blues music, releasing an album of covers.
