‘Ripper Street’ Leads Way To Canada & Norway After Sales 24 Sep 2012 : By Eva Hall (
Irish co-production ‘Ripper Street’ has been sold to Canada and Norway ahead of its TX date on BBC One.
The crime drama, which is co-produced by Dublin’s Element Pictures, London’s Tiger Aspect Productions and Lookout Point, has been sold by BBC Worldwide to Canada’s Space and Norway’s NRK.
Space is Canada’s home to some of BBC’s most popular science fiction shows such as ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Being Human’, while NRK airs the likes of HBO show ‘Boardwalk Empire’ and Nickelodeon show ‘iCarly’.
The eight-part series, which was shot in Dublin over 19 weeks this summer, follows three lawmen on the hunt for the now infamous Jack the Ripper murderer in London’s Whitechapel. The series focuses on the aftermath of the murders, charting the journey from copycat killers, to the sensationalism played out in the media, to the fear left behind in the town.
The series will receive its international premiere at the Rome Fiction Fest on October 1 where actor Matthew Macfadyen (Spooks) will be present to celebrate his character Inspector Edmund Reid, whom he plays alongside Jerome Flynn’s Sergeant Bennett Drake (Game of Thrones) and Adam Rothenberg’s Captain Homer Jackson.
‘Ripper Street’ was shot on location at Dublin’s Clancy Barracks for 19 weeks, with scenes also filmed in the Phoenix Park and Trinity College.
