Actors Olivia Colman and David Tennant are in Bristol today, Friday, filming scenes for the upcoming series of ITV crime drama Broadchurch.

The stars of the slow-burning murder mystery were pictured between takes at the entrance to Mail Handling International in Feeder Road, in the industrial eastern side of the city centre.

It is the third series of Broadchurch, which is actually set on the Jurassic Coast of Dorset with the coastal resort of Bridport effectively playing the title town.

Martin Clunes joins in at Dorset Chamber Orchestra concert for youngsters

BUDDING musicians raised the roof with the help of actor Martin Clunes at a special concert.

Hundreds of people packed St Mary’s Church in Dorchester to enjoy Music for Youth – Dorset Chamber Orchestra’s annual concert for young people.

Young soloists Charlotte Horner, 13, and Kirsty Chaplin, 15, performed Mozart’s concerto for flute and harp.

Kirsty is a harpist and plays with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and Charlotte is a flautist and has played with the Dorset Chamber Orchestra three times.

Mr Clunes narrated the Ballad of the Village Boy, a poem created by writer Richard Baker based on a Victorian ghost story from Dorset.

Liz Sharma composed the music to go with the piece, described as a ‘fun and interesting story for the young’.

The concert opened with the wonderfully-atmospheric overture Fingal’s Cave by Mendelssohn and ended with Bartok’s Rumanian Folk Dances.

Afterwards Mr Clunes signed autographs and had pictures taken with the young musicians and their families.

He said the youngsters were ‘amazing’ and it had been a lovely afternoon.

He added: “It’s lovely to be here.

“To be a part of the concert was a real thrill. It was a good afternoon.”

ACTOR Martin Clunes has sung the praises of a west Dorset horse charity for its success in helping young offenders to turn their lives around.

The Beaminster-based funnyman is the patron of the Horse Course charity set up by Harriet Laurie of Askerswell.

She has been helping the inmates at Portland Young Offender Institution (YOI) learn skills to break the cycle of offending and incarceration through horsemanship.

It’s been so successful at the YOI she’s now trained three other natural horsemanship specialists to do the same in three other prisons.

ACTOR Martin Clunes and wife Philippa thanked school pupils in person for their help at his annual fair.

The Beaminster School students volunteer for the local Buckham Fair as the culmination of their Community Sports Leader course.

As well as to say thank you, Mr Clunes presented awards to the 16 students who completed the course.

Mr Clunes, who lives near Baeminster, told the sixth form students that the fair raised more than £42,000 for Julia’s House children’s hospice. With the event growing in popularity each year, he also outlined some improvements that will be made for next year.
