Michael Fassbender: 'I hope Prometheus stands up to Alien' Published Monday, Apr 30 2012, 12:37pm EDT | By Mayer Nissim (DIGITAL SPY)

Michael Fassbender has said that he hopes Prometheus stands up to Alien. The upcoming Ridley Scott movie is set in the same universe as his 1979 science fiction horror classic which spawned three sequels and two Predator crossovers.

Fassbender told Elle of the new movie: "I hope it stands up against Alien. "Ridley's amazing, such a nice guy too, there's a real energy and youth to him." He added: "A lot of these directors have a wicked sense of humor. [David] Cronenberg was the same. He spent all the time taking the p*ss." Of his immediate career plans, Fassbender said: "I consciously stopped [making movies] last year. There's so much of me out there at the moment, I wanted to back off a bit. It's like overkill."

Michael Fassbender: Believe the Hype: 'Prometheus' by Cole Riley Published April 12, 2012 (WASHINGTON SQUARE NEWS)

The upcoming tent-pole film "Prometheus" from 20th Century Fox, set to premiere June 8, has achieved the quintessential Hollywood trifecta: an A-list director (Ridley Scott) teamed with a star-laden cast (Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace) in an action/sci-fi prequel to one of the most successful franchises ever, "Alien."

Scott's return to the thriller genre is perhaps the most exciting aspect of "Prometheus." The British-born director created the modern incarnation of the genre with his 1979 release "Alien." Since then, Scott has cemented his legacy elsewhere with award winning pictures "Gladiator," "Thelma & Louise" and "Black Hawk Down."

Director Ridley Scott excites preview audience in London with scenes of sci-fi flick ‘Prometheus’ Film starring Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace flirts with 'Alien' territory Comments BY DOMINIC MAXWELL-LEWIS / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Director Ridley Scott unveiled the first 3-D footage of “Prometheus,” his highly anticipated “Alien” prequel, in London Tuesday and movie writers were in awe.

Or at least they were in awe of the trailer and the 13 minutes of footage he showed. “We were treated to that tantalizing trailer montage of everything going gloopy and haywire – unfamiliar egg chambers, things entering people’s eyes,” writes the Telegraph’s Tim Robey.

They also were treated to the appearance of the flick’s star-studded leads — Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace, the stunning actress who played Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish/Danish version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”

They’re all part of what British blog Pocket Lint says “could be the best science fiction film made in years” when its released in the U.S. on June 8.
