A pug isn't the most manly of pets, but that doesn't stop Gerard Butler from walking his squash-nosed pooch with pride.

The Olympus Has Fallen star was spotted with his dog, Lolita, in Malibu on Friday as the happy pair headed out for coffee.

Dressed in a striped shirt and army green trousers, the dashing 43-year-old Scot smiled brightly and looked more than pleased with his furry date.

As for the cream and black diva trotting alongside her master, she seemed to be delighted to spend some quality time alone with the Law Abiding Citizen star.

Gerard, who is originally from the Scottish town of Paisley, recently revealed how little Lolita came into his life.

'I know it’s not politically correct to buy a dog from a pet store, but there was this one dog asleep with one eye open and its tongue hanging out,' he told Shortlist.com.  'I pulled her out and she started biting the sh*t out [of] me. I was going to leave but I couldn’t stop myself.

She may be small in stature, but Lolita no doubt fills a huge place in Gerard's heart - especially since his recent split from on-again, off-again girlfriend Madalina Ghenea. 

The 6ft 2in actor began dating the 25-year-old actress and model in September 2012 but the couple have reportedly split up. 

Romanian beauty Madalina, who previously went out with Leonardo DiCaprio, met Gerard when she was hired to help him promote a new razor for the Dubai-based Super Max brand.

She has most recently been linked to AS Roma footballer Marco Borriello, according to ESPNFC.com.

Gerard Butler Broke Two Neck Bones Filming Olympus Has Falllen

The 300 star completed most of his own stunts in the upcoming film and Butler admits it really took a toll on his body.

He tells U.S. Tv host Jay Leno, "I was hit with a bullet casing in the eye, I ripped off a fingernail, banged up my knee... I used to sing, well that's debatable, but I lost my high notes and I went to the doctor and he said I had a serrated voice box... That was about a year ago. So I went back about a month ago and he looked down again and he said, 'You got a growth in your neck, you better go for an Mri (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) just in case.'

"So I go for an Mri and the woman comes out and says, 'Did you break a bone in your neck? You've got a bone sticking out of your neck.' I'm like, 'What?' So she says, 'You better go for a second opinion.' And so I go for another Mri and the doctor said, 'Did you break two bones in your neck?' I'm like, 'What?'

Gerard Butler Suing Motor City Producers for $5.1 Million by Bruna Nessif and Claudia Rosenbaum (E ON LINE)

Movie or no movie, Gerard Butler wants what he claims is his promised payout.

The star, who is considered "one of the most sought after and bankable actors in Hollywood," filed a lawsuit against the producers from the film Motor City for breach of contract after cancelling his movie and failing to pay him $4 million, according to the complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court this month.

Butler and Comrie Inc., a management company, are suing Randall Emmett and George Furla's Emmett/Furla Films after Butler agreed to be the lead actor for revenge thriller, where he was offered a fixed guaranteed compensation of $4 million.

Scottish actor Gerard Butler recalls getting all banged up by his Irish counterpart Pierce Brosnan a few years back when they were filming Butterfly on a Wheel, which was renamed Shuttered for its 2007 U.S. release.

Though the film didn’t make much of an impression, Butler was left with a painful remembrance long after production shut down – a busted neck and some broken ribs.

Brosnan and Butler were shooting a chase scene in Vancouver, with Pierce behind the wheel of a Range Rover.  Pierce wound up losing control of the fancy car and crashing right into a wall, and Butler still vividly recalls the pain.

"Pierce ended up driving straight towards a wall and didn't apply the brakes in time and smashed right into it," Butler explains. "Initially we were fine, but I quickly realized my neck was out, my ribs came out, pretty painful stuff.”

GERARD BUTLER has forged a touching relationship with a schoolgirl stricken with cancer.

The 300 star has become “Uncle Gerry” to Abella Wyss, who has had surgery 11 times since her birth because of a rare genetic blood disorder.

The Paisley-born actor met the 10-year-old through his friendship with her parents, former Swiss footballer Oliver Wyss and his wife Jamie.

Gerard has even given her a speaking part in his latest film, Playing For Keeps, which also stars Jessica Biel.

And when Abella recovered from invasive surgery to remove tumours from both lungs earlier this month, the actor was among the first visitors to the New York hospital where she had the operation

Gerard said: “She is the most optimistic little girl in the world and incredibly brave.

“Oliver and Jamie are like their daughter, two of the most incredible people.”

Gerard has also lent his support to the family’s charity foundation Soccer For Hope.

It was set up by Oliver, 38, who was a youth international for Switzerland before becoming a player and coach for LA Galaxy.

He was diagnosed with cancer and recovered but the family were hit by a second blow in 2005 when their then 10-month-old son Hudson was also diagnosed.

He eventually lost a three-year battle for life.

Then Abella started to show signs of the disease and had to have chemotherapy after she was found to carry the same gene as her dad and brother.

PS I Love You star Gerard Butler's last-minute plan to spend his birthday in India was wrecked after he failed to leave enough time to obtain a visa.

The 43-year-old Scottish actor, who was in Dubai recently for a store opening, decided to take an impromptu trip to nearby India for the post-birthday celebrations, reported Hollywood life.

Butler celebrated his birthday on November 13 and the same day he headed to the Indian embassy in Dubai for a travel permit but had to abandon his plan when he was told the documents would not be available for a week.

"I am very disorganized  So at the last minute here in Dubai, I decided I wanted to go to India for my birthday. But I went to the embassy here today (Wednesday). They were excited to see me, but they said 'No' and that it would take seven days. So this year, I will go to Scotland and spend time with my family," he said.

And attending a high end fashion party with a giant shaving cut on your neck isn't a big deal either.

The 42-year-old Scotsman arrived at party in honour of Donatella Versace in New York on Wednesday evening with a stream of blood coming from a cut on his neck.

It seemed the accident prone actor had cut himself shaving while preparing for the stylish night out.

But despite his little shaving faux-pas, Gerard was still surrounded by beautiful women at the bash, who all fought for his attention and were probably more than happy to kiss and make it all better.

Gerard Butler talks about his accident while filming "Chasing Mavericks" (ON THE RED CARPET)

When Gerard Butler talked to OTRC.com about filming "Chasing Mavericks" and surfing for the film, he spoke openly about the potentially fatal surfing accident he had while shooting the film late last year.


The film is based on the early life of professional surfer Jay Moriarity (played by Jonny Weston) who becomes a protégé of Frosty Henson (Butler), a local legendary surfer who teaches Moriarity technique to survive one of American's most dangerous surfing spots, Mavericks in Half Moon Bay, California. The real Moriarity died at age 21 in 2001 during a diving accident in the Indian Ocean.

The 42-year-old actor was held under the waves at the real Maverick's Point, a popular break located near Half Moon Bay, and then rescued by firefighters. He was then taken to a local hospital for observation and released later in the day.

In the film, Butler's character delivers a monologue of a possible worst case scenario Moriarity can face when surfing in Mavericks.

"It was incredible because that was the monologue that was in my head before I went underwater was I can't believe that this is everything that I said to him and that the difference between life and death is the difference between fear and panic," Butler said.

"So I was terrified but I knew if I panicked that I was not -- because I was a long way from coming out and it went on for a while and all I wanted to do was breath, scream, get help, something because I was so deep down," he added. "So yeah, So those words I think really saved me."

Butler also said when he actually spoke to several surfers before he the incident about drowning was like.

The star, determined to get 'Chasing Mavericks' right, recounts a harrowing surfing session that almost took his life.

1:48PM EDT October 24. 2012 - BEVERLY HILLS — Rule No. 1 of extreme surfing: Don't confuse fear with panic. "You panic," says Gerard Butler's character, a craggy surfing pro in new film Chasing Mavericks, "you die."

It's a line that would reverberate through the actor's head just two days after he delivered it. With film cameras trained on him, Butler, 42, was bobbing in Northern California's Half Moon Bay when a massive swell crashed over him, ripping away his surfboard and pinning the actor underneath the churning sea. Lungs burning and quickly losing breath, seconds clicked slowly by as a thought crossed Butler's mind: "Why was this necessary?"

Chasing Mavericks (out Friday) is based on the true story of Jay Moriarity, a fearless young surfer who gained worldwide attention surfing a big-wave mecca near Santa Cruz known as Mavericks. Butler plays Frosty Hesson, Jay's rugged, real-life mentor who schools Jay (played by Jonny Weston) on the rules of survival around 50-foot swells.

Underwater, "all of those things were going around my head, going 'This is it. If I panic now…" Butler was barely able to gasp a breath before a second wave hit and the cycle began again.


Submerged again, Butler fought the urge to scream. "I felt very present. There was something that felt very normal about it. But by the time I got to the point I got to thinking, 'I'm in big trouble now,' that was only a about a quarter of the way through it. It went on and on and on. And then I started thinking, I just wanted to scream. And I was so deep underwater. I wanted to scream 'Help, somebody!' Or 'Mom!' Or something. And yet I knew the second I did that I was done."

Close to being jettisoned onto jagged rocks, Butler finally grabbed a crew member's hand, was pulled to shore and taken to the hospital (he was released the next day).

It wasn't the first time he'd taken a beating in the ocean.
