Mamma Mia 2: Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan and Cher, Plus everything we know so far...

Glamour

Mamma Mia 2 is currently filming in the UK and in Croatia, and we are pretty damn excited.

Ten years after the first film’s release, Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth all confirmed that they'd be regrouping for the sequel, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.

Interestingly, Lily James will also be in the movie. The 28-year-old actress will be playing a younger version of Meryl Streep's character Donna Sheridan. Her love interest will be new actor, Josh Dylan. Rumour has it, Josh plays a younger version of Bill, a Swedish sailor who could possibly be the father of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried).

Henry Cavill new James Bond: Superman actor being groomed as the next 007?

CHRISTIAN TODAY
Snooky Grawls 27 June 2015

It is that time once again for Ian Fleming's James Bond character where the search for a new actor to play 007 is up in the air.

Daniel Craig is the current one portraying the British Super Spy and word around is that the one likely to succeed him is Henry Cavill.

Should Cavill indeed be blessed of taking over from Craig, it will mark the first time that an actor with high regard would be chosen to play the role.

Previous actors who took on the role of 007 were virtual unknowns. In fact, portraying James Bond was seen as a springboard for their career.

Among the actors who previously played James Bond include Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Craig.

So will Cavill be up to the task?

For the record, Cavill had auditioned for the role before. This was back in 2005 when he tried out together with Daniel Craig. At that time, producers felt he was too young for the role (he was only 22 years old at the time) so Craig eventually got the part.

After 10 years and Cavill having a following of his own, all that has changed. He has the age and most importantly the looks that James Bond had always been associated with, a lady's man if you will.

So does this make him a shoe-in to be the next 007?

While that remains up in the air, Cavill is set to debut in another remake – The Man from U.N.C.L.E which is set to debut this coming August. The upcoming film may somehow help critics if Cavill is fit to be the next James Bond, being a spy-themed movie.

Rosamund Pike as Bond? Ed Miliband is the man with the Midas touch

THE GUARDIAN

April 1, 2015

Pierce Brosnan and Rosamund Pike in James Bond: Die Another Day.
Pierce Brosnan and Rosamund Pike in Die Another Day. 'Pike has also been a Bond girl. This idea is the stuff of dreams.' Photograph: Sportsphoto Ltd/Allstar

The election campaign can stop here. There is not going to be a better idea. The Labour leader, Ed Miliband, thinks Rosamund Pike should be the next Bond. This is, simply, the perfect proposal – perfect for Bond and incidentally pretty good as a piece of political positioning, all the better for looking like the sort of off-the-cuff idea you would like your prime minister to be capable of having.

Pike is surely out in front as the actor of her generation. Most recently she was in Gone Girl as the woman who sat down and invented her life and also her husband’s; plausible, irresistible and icily cruel as she plotted the perfect revenge.

She was beautiful and funny in Lynn Barber’s wonderful film, An Education, in which she pulled off the even trickier feat of being thick too. She’s as brilliant on stage. Her genius was first confirmed to me when I saw her in the title role of the weird Madame de Sade at the Donmar Warehouse, subtly commanding attention even alongside Judi Dench.

Describing her like that makes her sound a bit overqualified for Bond. But Daniel Craig’s Bond is a more intelligent, nuanced creation than his predecessors, and the franchise would not be half as successful if it did not mature to keep pace with the more complex and demanding thrillers out there in the market. Pike could raise the bar. Or not. Stay with it, Sam Mendes, please.

There is, purists will argue, the gender thing. So far, the feminist revolution has been largely limited to comics. We pointed out last week that there is a thing going on in that world with feminist superheroes. If Thor can be a woman, so can Bond. (Idris Elba could obviously be Bond too, but that is a different piece).

What would be dazzlingly transformative about Pike as Bond is the effect on the mental landscape. The whole James Bond proposition is constructed around the idea of women as throwaway accessories, baubles recruited exclusively for what they say about Bond himself. It is true that Craig’s Bond has occasionally shown an approach marginally more evolved than the caveman, but still women are there – except Dench, who is M as in Mother – purely instrumentally.

Pike’s Bond would turn the whole premise on its head. Even better, she would do it completely differently. Pike as Bond would obviously be smart enough to crack a cypher, tough enough to withstand being doused repeatedly in icy water, and ruthless enough to make use as necessary of her licence to kill. While retaining the capacity to make dry asides about the gruesome fate of her enemies, she would not be casually exploitative of the people around her, or if she was, then only because it was a necessary, if nasty, aspect of her character, rather than on the basis of their gender, race, creed etc. Also, she has been a Bond girl. This is the stuff of dreams.

The name's Elba. Idris Elba: Leaked Sony emails reveal boss Amy Pascal wants British actor to be James Bond

THE DAILY MAIL
By EMMA GLANFIELD FOR MAILONLINE
PUBLISHED: 05:31 EST, 21 December 2014 | UPDATED: 09:48 EST, 21 December 2014

British actor Idris Elba, 42 (left), who has starred in The Wire and Luther, could replace Daniel Craig, 46, (right) as the next James Bond when his contract ends after the next film, if leaked Sony emails are to be believed

British actor Idris Elba could become the next James Bond, according to leaked Sony emails.

Elba, 42, who has starred in The Wire and Luther, could replace Daniel Craig as the next 007 when his contract ends after the next film, if leaked emails are to be believed.

Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal allegedly told a top executive at Columbia Pictures, which distributes the Bond films, that 'Idris should be the next bond'.

It is latest piece of information to emerge from the Sony hacking scandal, which resulted in the cancelling of the Christmas Day release of The Interview.

Hackers threatened 9/11-style terrorist attacks on cinemas showing the comedy about two journalists – played by actors James Franco and Seth Rogen – who are recruited by the CIA to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The federal government confirmed on Wednesday that North Korea was behind the massive hack of Sony, which saw thousands of internal emails leaked.

According to the Daily Beast, an email sent on January 4 from Ms Pascal to Elizabeth Cantillon,
former executive vice president of production for Columbia Pictures, simply said: 'Idris should be the next bond (sic).'

If Elba, from Hackney, east London, did follow in Daniel Craig's footsteps, he would become the first black James Bond. Previous actors to portray 007 on the big screen include Pierce Brosnan, Roger Moore and Sean Connery.

Many have voiced support for Elba to play the British spy, including actor Jamie Foxx who said in an interview earlier this year that he was a big fan of the idea.

Elba himself has also previously expressed desire to play the British spy, telling website Reddit that he would take the role.

'Yes. if it was offered to me, absolutely,' he said.

Pierce Brosnan and wife Keely Shaye Smith share an affectionate kiss while swimming in the sea on holiday

Intimate moment: Pierce Brosnan shared a kiss with wife Keely Shaye Smith as they swum in the sea off of Kauai on Thursday

He's had a difficult few months as he comes to terms with the loss of his daughter Charlotte.

But Pierce Brosnan seemed to be finding solace in the arms of his beloved wife Keely Shaye Smith as they sunned themselves on holiday in Hawaii on Thursday.

The happily married couple were spotted sharing an intimate kiss as they swum in the sea off of the island of Kauai during their family trip.

Salt in your eyes? The star seemed to get splashed in the face at one point as he took his sunglasses off to give them a rub Clearly as in love as ever, the pair took a dip in the sea together as they lapped up the sun on the small island off of Hawaii.

And showing their affection for each other, the pair gave each other a hug while they were in the water and shared a kiss.

Hanging out: Pierce has been Hawaii for most of the summer spending time with his son Paris

The much loved Irish actor lost his daughter to ovarian cancer back in June and has unsurprisingly been spending lots of time with his nearest and dearest.

The Brosnan family were devastated when Charlotte died on June 28 following a three-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was just 42.

Pierce owns a home on the Hawaiian island along with his wife and loves to escape the pressures of Los Angeles by visiting there with his friends and relations.

Pierce Brosnan - Pierce Brosnan Still Has Fond Memories Of Irish Wedding 29 May 2013 (CONTACT MUSIC)

Pierce Brosnan

Pierce Brosnan is glad his wife Keely talked him into organising a proper church wedding in his native Ireland when the couple exchanged vows almost 12 years ago - because the big day remains one of his most special memories.

The actor was hoping for a simple affair on the beach near the couple's retreat in Malibu, California, but his wife-to-be insisted he go home to Ireland and find her a proper wedding site.

Brosnan tells BlogTalkRadio.com, "We had a church and then they wouldn't allow us to use the church for some religious reason or other, which is archaic and not even worth talking about. So my wife said, 'You gotta go find me a church!' So she sent me on a plane back to Ireland to go look for a church and I found a cathedral.

"We got married in Ashford Castle and it was August 4th. I remember this old Irish woman, the night before, saying, 'You've got to get a child of Prague (statue) and put that outside on the west corner of the building. I found a Child of Prague, which is a little statue of Jesus dressed as a king, and staggered out after my night out with the lads and many Guinnesses, into the gardens of Ashford Castle and found a hydrangea bush and buried this Child of Prague.

Pierce Brosnan's son Paris follows in his father's handsome footsteps By RACHEL LEVY MAIL ON LINE

His father is well-known as being a dashingly handsome James Bond.

And Pierce Brosnan's son Paris appears to be following in his father;s footsteps, revealing his handsome looks as the duo stepped out for coffee on Sunday in Malibu, California.

As the twosome left Starbucks, the resemblance between Paris and his famous father was uncanny, with Paris showing off a similarly shaped face and thick brown hair.

As he carried a skateboard in his hand, the youngster showed off his matching skater style, wearing a hooded brown-and-blue T-shirt, baggy grey trousers, and a pair of white Converse sneakers.

Unlike his father, he opted out of taking a to-go cup of coffee with him.

Pierce, however grasped onto a hot drink in one hand while chatting on his cell phone during the stroll.

Pierce Brosnan - Pierce Brosnan's Son To Play Him As A Young Man In New Thriller 25 April 2013 (CONTACT MUSIC)

Pierce Brosnan's son Sean is to play the former Bond star as a young man in a new movie about a former Irish Republican Army hitman trying to make good after serving 20 years in the notorious Long Kesh prison.

The Brosnans are planning to shoot actionthriller Last Man Out, based on a script by comedian-turned-U.S. chat show host Craig Ferguson, in Belfast, Northern Ireland later this year (13).

Pierce explains, "It's about the last man out of Long Kesh and the ghosts that he lives with and flashbacks to his younger life and me as a young man, so I was like, 'Sean, why not?'

"I'd known Craig, did his show and we live in the same neighbourhood and he came to me with this and I said, 'Yeah, let's have a crack at it.' Terry Loane is a Belfast director who I've wanted to work with. It's a little film."

Pierce Brosnan Says He Was Not Invited to Oscars James Bond Tribute (SHOWBIZ 411)

By Paula Schwartz

“No one invited me.” Pierce Brosnan is setting the record straight about this year’s Oscars the James Bond tribute. He told me this at the junket at the Waldorf Astoria Monday afternoon for his new movie “Love is All You Need.” (Later that evening he attended the Barbra Streisand tribute at Lincoln Center.)

“I was at the market, which I go to every Sunday and one of these chappies from TMZ said, ‘So Pierce, are you going to be there?’ I said, ‘Well I’m not going to be there. No one invited me.’ I didn’t even say no one invited me. I said, ‘I don’t think I’ll be there. It’s another man’s job.’ It got blown into something else.

Anyway it became I snubbed them. I didn’t. I didn’t’ get invited.”

Pierce Brosnan, who will turn 60 in May, is still as charming and handsome as he was when he played 007.

The women journalists – as well as a few of the men – were smitten by the Irishmen’s charm and warmth. He was passionate about talking about his new film, sang a little – off key – when told the movie is sort of “Mamma Mia” without the music, and at the end of the roundtable heartily embraced a woman who told him her husband had recently died of a heart attack.

Brosnan wore a white shirt, a few buttons undone, and a dark, tailored suit. His waist looks like it’s still 32 inches.

“Love is All You Need,” is a romance directed by Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier, whose last film in 2010, “In a Better World,” received an Academy Award for best foreign film. Brosnan plays a work obsessed Englishman and lacking father, a widower living in Denmark, who falls for Ida (Trine Dyrholm), a Danish hairdresser, who is battling breast cancer and who has just been dumped by her husband.

She and Brosnan’s character meet at the airport-parking garage where she accidentally rams into his car; coincidentally they are both off to the Amalfi Coast to attend the wedding of his son and her daughter.

Underneath her wig Ida is completely bald. It was originally called “The Baldheaded Dresser” Brosnan said, “and remained that in Denmark, which is so blunt, truthful, honest, up front, but I don’t think it would fly here.”

Another thing that would be lost in translation if made here is the story, which is very European in sensibility. Could this movie have been made here, Brosnan was asked? “The studio would have just hammered this to death. Executives would have gone in there with their little kind of moral values and cut the balls out if.” He added, “Their shortcomings are evident in the produce that they present to the great American public in the guise of romantic comedies, which are rather thin and they don’t have any real bite or humanity or substance.”

Pierce Brosnan: charm is all he needs (THE IRISH TIMES)

BY TARA BRADY

Let’s be honest. There is one adjective that describes Pierce Brosnan best. He is smooth. He is smoother than the smoothest surface sold in Smooth and Co. When he inherited the part of James Bond from Timothy Dalton, he made that fine actor seem, in retrospect, like a Welsh gorilla. That suaveness served Brosnan well while playing a variation on Tony Blair in Roman Polanski’s The Ghost . He smoothed his way delightfully (though not always tunefully) through Abba classics in Mamma Mia!

You don’t need to see him in Susanne Bier’s fine Love is All You Need to savour the Brosnan silk in action. Just listen to him talk about it.

“I did it two summers ago in Sorrento with the wonderful Susanne,” he says. “I had the time of my life. I do love this film. You get the warm embrace of a move that has heart and love.”

In the Oscar-winning Bier’s gorgeous new film, Trine Dyrholm plays a breast-cancer survivor who, while attending a wedding in Italy, becomes involved with the sleek, widowed father of the groom (not played by Timothy Dalton). Brosnan has, of course, a personal connection with the story. In 1991, Cassandra Harris, his first wife, died of Ovarian cancer, and he has campaigned tirelessly for cancer charities throughout the succeeding two decades.

“It does deal with breast cancer,” he says. “You know, no one ever goes near cancer. They don’t want to. I lost my wife to cancer. So it has that poignancy for me. Susanne had no idea of my personal circumstances when she got in touch. But it’s a man dealing with cancer and being a single father. I felt I knew it. I felt I could play it.

Pierce Brosnan plans to star alongside son Sean, 29, in IRA film Last Man Out SHERNA NOAH (INDEPENDENT)

Former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan plans to star alongside his son on the big screen, with the pair playing the same character.

The Mamma Mia! star said that he wanted to work with Sean, 29, on the film adaptation of the thriller The Ghosts Of Belfast, set in the aftermath of the Troubles.

Brosnan, 59, is expected to play a former IRA hitman in the movie, with his son taking the role of his character's younger self.

The actor told the Radio Times that the film, Last Man Out, is "about a man released from prison who has to deal with the venom of the past and Sean will play my character as a young man.

"So, if we can make it happen, I'd obviously love the chance of working with my boy."

He added: "Sean is doing well and he's creating a career for himself. And my son Dylan goes to film school in the summer and makes his own movies. You get apprehensive, regardless of what they do.

"It's part of being a parent. But I embrace their decisions as long as they get an education.

Pierce Brosnan: "I didn't think I'd find love again, now I live the life of Riley and have a belly" DailyMirror

On screen he’s romanced many of the most beautiful women in the world.

Halle Berry, Meryl Streep, Salma Hayek and Rosamund Pike are just a few to have starred opposite Pierce Brosnan.

But no matter how undoubtedly desirable they all are, his wife Keely is absolutely fine with his on-screen liaisons.

“She calls it ‘legal cheating’,” says the former James Bond star. “My wife is very cool. She has a great sense of humour about it, a great sense of who she is as a woman and security and faith within me.”

To hear Brosnan gush about Keely, it’s no surprise she has complete confidence in their relationship.

“She is the most beautiful woman and someone who has been my North Star for many a day and a year now. We just celebrated 19 years of life together,” he says.

The pair met in 1994 when the former journalist interviewed him, and they tied the knot in Ireland seven years later.

A grief-stricken Brosnan had sworn never to marry again after losing first wife Cassandra to ovarian cancer in 1991, when she was just 43.

The memories of this heart-breaking period in his life, when he was left to bring up their eight year-old son Sean, undoubtedly came flooding back, while making his latest movie, Danish romantic comedy Love Is All You Need. Brosnan gives an acclaimed performance as heartbroken widower and father-of-one Philip, whose life changes after he meets cancer survivor Ida.

Brosnan says: “As a man who has gone through the rigours of loss and dealing with family, I guess there was something there I could draw on.

“I know what it is like to be a widower and what it is like to find love again. So I know there’s hope and that you have to learn to get on with it. Ups and downs are what life is all about. But the memory of Cassie and her fight against cancer is never forgotten.”

Cassie was the one who pushed him to go to Hollywood. That move landed him the starring role in the detective series Remington Steele from 1982 and which ultimately led to him playing 007 in four Bond films.

Cary Grant, the one and only By Laurie Bennett March 21, 2013 at 6:05am (MUCKETY)

The New York Times has proclaimed Justin Timberlake the new Cary Grant, which must make George Clooney the old Cary Grant.

The premise for the Times verdict is Timberlake’s suave new look, a tailored contrast to his earlier boy-band bagginess.

Grant, Alfred Hitchcock’s favorite actor, set a standard, sartorial and otherwise, for later generations of actors.

The comparison is made with so many handsome, witty leading men that it has become a cliche.

Hugh Grant (no relation) runs a close second to Clooney as the chosen successor. The Daily Mail pointed out: “Both were born in England, have similar Byronic sex appeal, look good in suits, and excel at playing well-heeled characters.”

Others who have been promoted as the next Archibald Alexander Leach include Bruce Willis (when he had hair), Pierce Brosnan (before he serenaded Meryl), Mark Wahlberg, Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ashton Kutcher and Ewan McGregor. (The McGregor analogy makes no sense whatsoever. He obviously is the next Christopher Plummer.)

Vanity Fair noted this trend almost a decade ago, identifying Frankie Muniz, TV’s Malcolm in the middle, as the most inexplicable nominee. When told that a critic had described him as “the Cary Grant of kid stars,” Muniz replied, “That’s cool… but I don’t know who Cary Grant is.”
