HUGH Grant may be discreet about the women in his private life but the actor has spilled on which of his female co-stars was the best kisser and who he actually enjoyed working with.

Grant dished the dirt on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man show while promoting his new romantic comedy The Rewrite in which he stars opposite Marissa Tomei.

He said you never quite know when you are cast whether the chemistry will work.

“Sometimes you loathe each other. Sometimes hate comes over as love. I’ve had some amazing leading ladies,” he said. “The ones I really got on with are Sandra Bullock and Sarah Jessica Parker.”

When it comes to kissing however he said he struggled smooching Julia Roberts in Notting Hill.

“It’s a big mouth. I was aware of a faint echo when I was kissing her,” he said.

Grant said no one can beat Bridget Jones’ Diary co-star Renée Zellweger when it comes to kissing, saying she is definitely “top snogger”.

He said that he and Colin Firth engaged in a “competitive snogging” contest to try and outdo each other.

“You will have to ask Renee who she preferred. I think Colin tried too hard,” he said.

Jude Law Nearing Deal to Join Melissa McCarthy's Spy Comedy ‘Susan Cooper’ (Exclusive)

With two Fox Searchlight movies opening in the next several weeks, Jude Law is nearing a deal to work with the studio's parent company 20th Century Fox, as he's in final negotiations to join Melissa McCarthy and Rose Byrne in Paul Feig's spy comedy “Susan Cooper,” an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

“Susan Cooper,” which is being developed as a potential franchise in the same tone as “The Heat,” will be a realistic comedy about a female James Bond-type. Frequent action movie hero Jason Statham is confirmed to co-star in the movie.

Benedict Cumberbatch rules Toronto fest

TORONTO — It's unquestionable that Benedict Cumberbatch is the man of the moment at the International Film Festival. Not that it doesn't come with a price.

"It's great. I wish I could enjoy the moment a bit more, (but) that's always the thing, isn't it?" says Cumberbatch, ensconced in a hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton. It's a gorgeous fall day outside, but with three prestigious movies to promote (Julian Assange biopic The Fifth Estate, the Steve McQueen-directed slavery film Twelve Years a Slave and August: Osage County) the closest he's getting to the great outdoors is by squinting.



"I can see it through the crack in the door," says the star, who may tie Oprah for how many interviews a human is capable of participating in (on Saturday alone he topped out at 64).

Cumberbatch grins, shrugs. "High-class problems."

And no matter that his fans ("Cumberladies," as he politely rephrases the more crass term) are clamoring for him on the sidewalks. "I still get star-struck," he says. "Whether it's Sandra Bullock or Nicole Kidman. I met Brad (Pitt) backstage at Twelve Years a Slave two nights ago. I really liked meeting him."

The Toronto International Film Festival unveiled its guest list Tuesday and we all know TIFF is a star-studded affair, but this is nuts. Let’s start with the actors.

Here’s a (very) partial list of the thespians expected to swing by TIFF. Anna Karenina, The Great Gatsby: On list for (likely) Best Picture 2012 (HOLLYWOOD ELSEWHERE)

On January 1st I presented a list of the likeliest leading Best Picture contenders for 2012. Today Rope of Silicon's Brad Brevet came up with a list of 25 potential Best Picture contenders. I'm using his list to refine mine and to separate the highly favored or half-likelies from the outright kills.

HOLLYWOOD ELSEWHERE 2013 BEST PICTURE FINALISTS (for now):

1. Lincoln (mid to late December), d: Steven Spielberg, cast: Daniel Day Lewis, Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones. Why: The usual Spielberg-kowtow instinct (i.e., to show obeisance before power) plus the impact of Daniel Day Lewis's lead performance plus the instinct to show respect and allegiance for the legend of Abraham Lincoln. Classic historical chops. Will Spielberg try to hold back on his usual instincts? He may, I think, because of the Lewis influence.

2. The Master, d: Paul Thomas Anderson; cast: Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Laura Dern. Why: This project has felt chilly from the get-go, but if it's halfway focused and well-shaped it'll offer a chance for Hollywood to deliver a big "eff you" to Scientology, which, we've all been told, The Master is absolutely not about. Plus it's hard to imagine Hoffman's L. Ron...sorry, charismatic leader performance not emerging as a Best Actor standout.

3. The Great Gatsby (12.25), d: Baz Luhrman, cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher. Why: The usual instinct to honor an adaptation of a classic novel. As long as Luhrman doesn't screw it up, that is, by going all crazy and wackjobby like he did on Australia.

4. This is Forty (12.21), d: Judd Apatow. Why: Apatow has been getting better and better. One of these years he;s going to hit a long triple or a homer. Cast: Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, Megan Fox, Melissa McCarthy, Albert Brooks, Ryan Lee, John Lithgow and Charlyne Yi.

5. The Silver Linings Playbook (11.21), d: David O. Russell, cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, Chris Tucker, Julia Stiles. Why: No clue, but Russell always delivers so I'm guessing/presuming here.

6. Gravity (11.21), d: Alfonso Cuaron; cast: Sandra Bullock, George Clooney. Why: The technical audacity of this film alone, described by Clooney as sort of 2001-ish, will surely attract respect and huzzahs.

7. Les Miserables (12.7), d: Tom Hooper, cast: Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway. Why: Classic musical in grand sweeping historical tradition plus direction by Hooper (The King's Speech) plus Crowe, Jackman, etc. And Hathaway finally sings.

 8. Anna Karenina (November/early December), d: Joe Wright., w: Tom Stoppard. Cast: Keira Knightley.

BACKSTAGE MEETING: Oscar host Billy Crystal, who has declined to speak with reporters and kept his rehearsals closed throughout the week, emerged from his dressing room to observe the proceedings Saturday. Wearing jeans, sneakers and a newsboy cap, the comedian blended in with the rest of the backstage workers_ so much so that he had to re-introduce himself to an admired colleague. "Hi James, Billy Crystal," he said to James Earl Jones, who received a Governors Award late last year and will be honored again at Sunday's ceremony. As soon as the actor recognized Crystal, he hugged him. "With that cap on, I thought you were a hoodlum," Jones said before wishing the comedian well on his ninth Oscar-hosting stint. "Have fun tonight," Jones said, "and tomorrow night."

 A BLAST OF "BRIDESMAIDS": The cast of "Bridesmaids" reunited on the Oscar stage and dosed the theater with a blast of energy. "Oh my God, I cannot believe I'm there!" Rose Byrne said when she spotted her seat near the front of the theater. "I see you!" Maya Rudolph said to Kristin Wiig, pointing out her seat-saving placard. As the actresses prepared to make their entrance alongside co-stars Melissa McCarthy, Ellie Kemper and Wendi McLendon-Covey, they threw up jazz hands and pretended to disco dance. McLendon-Covey also played an oversized air guitar.

FIRST LOOK: The Seven Dwarves provide comic relief as they join Lily Collins and Julia Roberts in new Snow White adaptation Mirror Mirror

They have been translated in various ways on the big screen.

But in the new adaptation of Snow White, Mirror Mirror, it seems the Seven Dwarves are there to provide comic relief.

In a new trailer of the upcoming movie, viewers have been treated to their first look at the dwarves, who help out heroine Snow White, played by Lily Collins, in her time of need.

The pretty brunette plays an exiled princess who must seek the help of seven 'resourceful rebels' to protect herself from the villianous queen who has taken control of the kingdom.

The film also stars Sean Bean as The King and Armie Hammer, who catapulted to fame playing the dual role of the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, as handsome Prince Andrew Alcott.

Despite accusations she is trading off her father's fame, 22-year-old Lily actually embarked on her own career two decades ago with a debut role in BBC series Growing Pains at the tender age of two.

She has since starred as Sandra Bullock's daughter in 2009 production The Blind Side and co-starred with Twilight hunk Taylor Lautner in last year's action film Abduction.

Meryl Streep's an Oscar Lock! But What Happened to Harry Potter?

The AFI Awards are set to be announced Sunday, with the Golden Globe nominations just four days after that.

Oh, yes, awards season is on, and so is our Oscar Watch column, a weekly look at which contenders are hot right now.

And, of course, which contenders (sorry, Harry Potter and Madonna fans!) are not:

WHO'S RISING

1. Tilda Swinton: If you're going to have a shot at beating Meryl Streep for Best Actress, then you better come armed with great reviews and better buzz. Check and check for the star of the just-opened We Need to Talk About Kevin.

2. Meryl Streep: If you're really going to have a shot at beating you-know-who, then you better make sure nobody sees how eerie good she who needs no introduction looks in the new trailer for The Iron Lady. Er, oops...

3. Andy Serkis: He's got the studio-backed ad campaign, now all the motion-capture star of Rise of the Planet of the Apes needs is the votes.

UP? DOWN? WHO CAN'T TELL!

1. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close: So, usually it's a bad thing if you won't let anybody see your movie, but this 9/11 drama with Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock got the New York Times to posit that maybe, just maybe, in this case, it's a good thing.

WHO'S FALLING

1. The Artist: Who doesn't love this plucky silent movie? Nobody. But, we're, what?, a couple seconds into awards season, and already this one is feeling a bit precious—and a lot like it's going to get trampled by the likes of War Horse.

2. Alan Rickman: Whatever happened to that first-ever major Oscar nomination for the Harry Potter series? According to the oddsmakers, it's not happening, at least not for Rickman.

3. W.E.: Given Madonna's track record in Hollywood, one should never assume the pop icon is in the Oscar race; in fact, one should assume she isn't. But when Harvey Weinstein's distributing her latest movie, and releasing it in December, one may start to doubt all that one knows to be true. Don't. The drama's being killed by critics, and isn't going anywhere—except maybe to the Globes, courtesy the song, "Masterpiece."
