Oscar 2014 Best Supporting Actor Nominations Predictions: Michael Fassbender, Jared Leto, Tom Hanks, Bradley Cooper Lead Crowded Field

LATINOS POST
By Francisco Salazar | First Posted: Nov 14, 2013 12:19 AM EST

The Best Supporting Actor category continues to be an enigma as the category amasses more potential nominees.

Michael Fassbender is still seemingly leading the Best Supporting Actor race for his work on "12 Years A Slave." The actor is one of the most respected performers working in Hollywood and after the Academy ignored his acclaimed performance in "Shame" it is almost impossible to believe that Fassbender will not be nominated. Additionally, he has the advantage considering the film is the front-runner to win Best Picture.

Jared Leto continues to get buzz for his role in "Dallas Buyers Club." Leto is unrecognizable in his performance and the fact that he lost weight for the role could be helpful in claiming an Academy Award. While he may not win, Leto is a lock for a nomination.

The rest of the candidates are still only possibilities and long-shots. Among them are Barkhad Abdi ("Captain Phillips"), Chris Cooper ("August: Osage County") and Tom Hanks ("Saving Mr. Banks"). Abdi is a newcomer and that alone can hurt his chances, while Cooper's role is not receiving much buzz from pundits. Meanwhile, Hanks is in "Captain Phillips" as well, and the Academy may want to nominate another actor instead of giving Hanks two nominations.

How Donatella Versace inspired Kristin Scott Thomas’s latest character (TELEGRAPH) BY BIBBY SOWRAY | 18 JULY 2013

Donatella Versace and Kristin Scott Thomas as Crystal Thompson Photo: Rex

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but we're not sure that's how Donatella Versace will see this one.

The designer is said to have inspired the look sported by Kristin Scott Thomas in her role as "merciless and terrifying mafia godmother" Crystal Thompson in Only God Forgives .

The character has been described by the film's director Nicolas Winding Refn (the man behind the Gosling-fest that is Drive ) as "a cross between Lady Macbeth and Donatella Versace". Having seen Scott Thomas in character, we think it's safe to say Donatella inspired Crystal's look as opposed to murderous tendencies.

But when questioned about her use of Donatella as a point of reference, Scott Thomas has tried to backtrack.

"This is a huge mistake. Donatella Versace, I've heard she's the sweetest, nicest, kindest person in the entire world," the actress told The Cut , before taking out a shovel and beginning to dig.

"But what she's done is created this aesthetic that many, many, many women emulate. And you know, it was a pretty powerful thing to do, and her idea of glamour and beauty doesn't always work, and it certainly doesn't work on Crystal."

Kristin Scott Thomas gets nasty at Cannes (USA TODAY)

CANNES, France — Kristin Scott Thomas is known for her cool, aristocratic demeanor in classic films such as 1994's Four Weddings and a Funeral and 1996's The English Patient.

But now it's time for her to get nasty. Real nasty.

The English-French actress, who turns 53 on Friday, takes on a very different role as the bloodthirsty head of a drug-running family hell-bent on revenge in Only God Forgives (out July 19). The film from writer-director Nicolas Winding Refn saw its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday.

Thomas will shock — and delight — her fans as she chews her way through anyone in her path onscreen while inhaling long, thin cigarettes. The role has thrust her into the spotlight, a place usually reserved for her marquee co-star Ryan Gosling, who was pulled out of the festival because of last-minute film commitments.

"She had no problem turning on the bitch switch," said Refn as the film was introduced to the international press.

Colin Firth Voted Sexiest Onscreen Heartthrob Ahead of Ryan Gosling (FEMALE FIRST)

Colin Firth

If you’re a Ryan Gosling fan (and believe us, we are!) you may be slightly disappointed that he has lost out to the handsome Colin Firth when it comes to the sexiest heartthrob in a book to screen adaptation.
Odeon took a look into who our major crushes are on the big screen and found that Colin Firth firmly won us over when he played the stubborn yet alluring Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones’s Diary.
When talking about book to screen adaptations it’s hard to dismiss The Notebook and the public didn’t as they voted Ryan Gosling the second sexiest due to his portrayal of Noah.
One of the biggest books turned film has to be The Twilight Saga, so it’s no wonder that fans of the books and films voted Robert Pattinson in at number three.

Downton Abbey's Laura Carmichael, interview (THE TELEGRAPH)

By Nick Allen4:03PM BST 05 May 2013

Poor Lady Edith Crawley. Jilted at the altar and living in the shadow of her elder sister, the glamorous Lady Mary, it's been a hard road. But the upcoming fourth series of the unstoppable Downton Abbey will see her blossom.

"They're very interesting times," says Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith. "The exciting thing for me, and for Edith, is we can show her when she's not at Downton, and what happens. There is a shadow over the house but elsewhere she can kind of reinvent herself, and she's having this exciting time, and she's writing.
"I'm having so much fun with this series. She's really embracing the modern way of life, she's working, and of course she gets to go to London and I get some great clothes. She's evolving. Its really fun playing Edith with the bit between her teeth and going after what she wants."

Filming of the fourth series of Downton Abbey, created by Julian Fellowes, began in February. Fans will have to wait until the autumn to see it in the UK, and next year in the US.

When they do the Crawley family and their servants will be depicted in 1922 mourning Matthew Crawley, played by Dan Stevens, who died in an untimely car crash at the end of the last series.

Carmichael, 26, looked glamorous in a powder blue strapless dress by British designer Christopher Kane, as she attended a Downton-themed ball in Los Angeles. It was part of "BritWeek," a promotion of British links with California.

Asked which Hollywood star she would want as Lady Edith's love interest in the show, she told The Telegraph: "Ryan Gosling. I think he would be brilliant in Downton, and it would be a waste if it doesn't happen."

Gosling, star of The Notebook, has yet to sign, but there will be no shortage of drama in Lady Edith's love life. Asked if she will find a man, Carmichael said "I can't possibly reveal," but added: "As ever with Julian and the show there are ups and downs and twists and turns to the story, and all of it is desperately exciting."
One of the most memorable moments of series three saw Lady Edith's hopes of a happy conventional marriage dashed when the much older Sir Anthony Strallan left her standing at the altar.

In the next series the character of wealthy London newspaper editor Michael Gregson, played by Charles Edwards, who asked her to write a column, will return and that makes things "complicated" for Lady Edith.

"Her editor, obviously there is a spark and that continues really," says Carmichael. "It's great because I completely understand how much Edith has come on, and it really has come out of unfortunate things happening to her, and not getting the life she planned. I've always thought she would have been a dutiful wife, and it sparked her to find something else to do, and she does.

"As ever Julian manages to take the characters we know and love into exciting places at exciting times that we also know about, so we know that in the twenties women were beginning to do these things and we believe we're following it accurately.

"She's still going despite the knocks she's had. It's those terrible things that happened, those unlucky things, that have led to her growing and becoming a much stronger person. Even looking at series three so much has changed in terms of her aspirations and how she conducts herself as a modern woman, and that has come out of being jilted."

Tom Hiddleston - Tom Hiddleston alarmed by female advances

Tom Hiddleston finds female attention ''alarming'' and believes women only think of him as a sex symbol because of his big screen bad boy roles.

Tom Hiddleston finds female attention ''alarming''.

The 31-year-old British actor was crowned the 'Sexiest Movie Star Alive' in a magazine poll in January, beating Robert Pattinson and Ryan Gosling to the desirable title.

However, the Hollywood star is baffled by his sex symbol status and is always surprised when women flirt with him.

Speaking on UK TV show 'This Morning', he said: ''With sexiest, it's a subjective thing. It's alarming when attention comes your way.'

Hiddleston believes women may have voted for him because they are attracted to his evil alter ego Loki from 'Thor', 'Avengers Assemble' and the upcoming 'Thor: The Dark World'.

He mused: ''It might be when I die my hair black, and wear white make-up, leather and metal, there's a particular vibe going on there.''

Henry Cavill vs. Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder December 06, 2012 05:15 AM EST (ENTERTAINMENT)

The 50 Shades of Grey movie recently seemed to get a new favorite for the role of Christian Grey in Man of Steel star Henry Cavill.

The actor didn't say no to the role when he was asked about playing Christian during a recent interview, so he became the most talked about casting option for a few days. But can Superman defeat heavy favorites Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder?

A new poll on Latinos Post has pitted ten of the favorites for the role against each other, and it looks like Henry is having a hard time catching up to his competition—he's going to need to use a little of his Superman speed to surpass the votes that Matt and Ian are getting.

Right now Ian Somerhalder is winning the poll with over 40 percent of the vote, and he's so far ahead that Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill couldn't beat him if they combined their votes together. Matt has about 28 percent of the vote while Henry is far behind at about 8 percent. Alexander Skarsgard is in fourth place with a little over 6 percent, and Ryan Gosling is trailing him closely with 5.5 percent.

Henry has a lot in common with Matt and Ian looks-wise. All the guys have angular jawlines that Anastasia Steele could use to saw her handcuffs off with, and they all have sexy eyes and buff bods. So why can't Henry catch up to his competition for the 50 Shades of Grey movie?

Henry Cavill: '50 Shades of Grey' Movie Casting News Soon? James Asks Fans to Pick Christian November 29, 2012 03:20 PM EST (GATHER ENTERTAINMENT)

by Aida Ekberg

The 50 Shades of Grey movie casting fever once got so hot that the film producers and author E. L. James tried to get fans to cool it—according to them, any casting news was still way too far off for fans to be so frenzied.

At times it has seemed like James and the producers find all the casting speculation a little annoying, and they've avoided talking about the casting process too much. So after putting all this effort into keeping fans calm, why in the world would E. L. James start fanning the flames by asking Fifty fans who they want to see as Christian Grey?

According to Entertainmentwise, the author whipped fans into a Twitter frenzy by asking them, "who do you want to play Christian Grey in the movie?" Their feedback included the likes of heavy favorites Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer, but now Man of Steel star Henry Cavill is also getting a bit more attention. The sexy new Superman was recently asked about starring in the 50 Shades of Grey movie, and he coyly responded by saying, "Whether that happens, that decision will be made at the time it has to be made."

Maybe Henry Cavill's comment had something to do with why James tweeted what she did. It's possible that Henry has been in talks to star in the movie and that James is trying to keep fans from focusing on his comments too much with her Twitter distraction. Asking Fifty fans who they want to see as Christian Grey makes it seem like no casting talks have been going on.

Rosamund Pike And Guy Pearce To Star In Aussie Drama Violet Town published: 2012-11-28 08:24:03 Author: Kristy Puchko (CINEMA BLEND)

The beautiful English ingénue Rosamund Pike first drew notice Stateside in 2005's Pride and Prejudice, where she played the loving Jane Bennet opposite the Oscar-nominated Keira Knightley. Though roles followed in the Anthony Hopkins/Ryan Gosling vehicle Fracture and the Oscar-nominated biopic An Education, Pike hasn't yet blown up. Coming up she'll appear in supporting parts in Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher and Simon Pegg's Hector and the Search for Happiness, but thankfully a leading role is in her future, thanks to a forthcoming drama out of Australia.

In their first joint venture Mushroom Pictures and Morrissey Molloy Entertainment are producing an adaptation of Steven Carroll’s novel The Art Of The Engine Driver penned by Matt Cameron. The film, rechristened Violet Town, centers on a married couple attending a New Years Eve Party in 1957 Melbourne. But what should be a night of joy and frivolity turns dramatic when secrets buried within their suburban lives are unearthed. Deadline reports Pike and Guy Pearce will play the spouses with skeletons in their closet. Bryan Brown, best known as Tom Cruise's buddy in Cocktail, is also attached, though his role is unknown. Mark Joffe, who directed the charming Janeane Garofalo rom-com The MatchMaker, will helm.

Ryan Gosling and Michael Fassbender showed up by surprise at a charity event By Jen Chaney (WASHINGTON POST)

Well, hey, what do you know? The Internet — as well as Gosling and Fassbender and a charity event held in Austin over the weekend — have come together to bring us just such a story.

Gosling apparently showed up on Saturday at an event called the Spooky Skedaddle 5K, a fundraiser for the Texas School for the Deaf Foundation’s Language for All Campaign. Fassbender and Rooney Mara, Gosling’s co-stars in the Terrence Malick film that is currently shooting in Austin, were there as well, primarily to shoot some footage for said film.

Their presence (especially Gosling’s) prompted the dissemination of tweets like this:

Robert Pattinson Teaming Up With Carey Mulligan For James Marsh's Hold On To Me 0 Comments published: 2012-10-16 15:47:45 Author: Eric Eisenberg (CINEMA BLEND)

If Carey Mulligan isn't careful she is going to earn the jealousy of women worldwide. Just last year she got to star alongside both Ryan Gosling and Michael Fassbender in Drive and Shame, respectively, and now she's going to get the chance to work alongside yet another one of Hollywood's biggest heartthrobs. Robert Pattinson, who has the final film in the Twilight franchise due out next month, has been cast alongside Mulligan in the drama Hold on To Me.

Deadline has learned that the project is being sold at the American Film Market, and the project has Academy Award winning filmmaker James Marsh attached to helm. Based on a true story, the movie will have Mulligan playing a "femme fatale who with her boyfriend kidnaps and ransoms the town’s richest man." The plan, however, goes horribly wrong and they have to bury the body. Pattinson will be playing Jimmy, the "woman’s life love." Brad Ingelsby, who wrote the upcoming Scott Cooper thriller Out of the Furnace, is writing the screenplay.

MICHAEL FASSBENDER PICTURES FROM HIS NEW FILM AND FROM THE COUNSELOR

FROM
SOME GREAT SHOTS OF MICHAEL ON THE SET OF HIS NEW FILM AND SHOTS FROM "THE COUNSELOR"

Rooney Mara, Ryan Gosling and Michael Fassbender in set photos from Terrence Malick’s latest October 15, 2012 | Written By: Brad Sturdivant FLIX 66

Michael Fassbender also hung out a lot at the festival, mostly shooting scenes with Natalie Portman.  Which is odd since he just recently joined the cast and now it looks like he’s going to be a big part of the film.  But that could change since Terrence Malick has a history of deleting entire roles when he gets into the editing room.  For now, we know that Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender, Haley Bennett and Holly Hunter could all be in the film.  Obviously, we still don’t have a title for the film (although it was called “Lawless” for a while) and still no release date. Natalie Portman & Michael Fassbender's Malick Embrace Interrupted By Lizard Man (MOVIE LINE)

NEWSWIRE || BY: JEN YAMATO || OCTOBER 10, 2012 05:50 PM EDT

Your guess is as good as mine as to what the heck's going on in new set photos from Terrence Malick's latest picture, in which Natalie Portman and Michael Fassbender appear to be getting down to lip-locking in a field... and are interrupted by a green lizard man with "FREAK" tattoed across his chest. What's Terry up to down in Austin?

The untitled Malick film follows To The Wonder and Knight of Cups in the filmmaker's suddenly hyperproductive recent filming tear and is about sexual obsession and lusty betrayal in the Austin, TX music scene. Or, as you might imagine, a Friday night on 6th Street during SXSW. But, more importantly! In the new batch of set pics Portman and Fassbender get wrapped up in each others' arms, a bit more passionately than co-stars Rooney Mara and Ryan Gosling did in their previously snapped scenes. They gaze into each others' eyes. He dips her onto the ground. And then... The Lizardman startles PortBender out of their embrace!
