'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Casting: Top 3 Contenders for Christian Grey Include Matt Bomer vs Henry Cavill, Ian Somerhalder Out of Running? E.L. James Hints News

Fans are no doubt furious to hear that one of their top 3 contenders for Christian Grey in the upcoming "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie is out of the running: Ian Somerhalder.

According to Us Weekly, sources said that E.L. James admitted that the 34-year-old "Vampire Diaries" star was out of the picture for being cast as 27-year-old sexy billionaire and BDSM-crazed Christian Grey.

"E.L. was at a Comic-Con party July 20 telling people the part won't go to Ian," a source said.

That leaves the most two favorite top contenders, Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill, still in the running [as far as fans are concerned] for the top role in the highly anticipated film. In other news, another fan-favorite, though not as big, Garrett Hedlund, turned down the role of Christian already.

"Doing a possible trilogy was too big a commitment, and producers wouldn't let him do just one film," said the source of Kirsten Dunst's boyfriend. So fans of the "On the Road" actor will not get to see him in the film either.

HENRY CAVILL: '50 Shades of Grey' Movie Cast: Henry Cavill and Matt Bomer Top Fan Polls, Alexandra Daddario Enters the Casting Arena By Peter Lesser (LATINOS POST)

Ann Boudreau

The "50 Shades of Grey" wheel just keeps on turning. Every week, every day, every minute there are new casting rumors that run rampant across the Internet. Wild speculations, fan polls and mock trailers keep fans satisfied while E. L. James and Universal take their sweet time deciding who will play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. The desperate cries of "50 Shades" fans don't seem to resonate with the hot shots in Hollywood. Typical. Regardless, it's still fun to dream. Top Christian contenders include Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill, but the "Superman: Man of Steel" star is generating some extra buzz in recent fan polls.

Christian Grey is basically Superman, so it would be a seamless transition for Cavill to assume the role. He's got the look, the class and the acting abilities to play the seductive Mr. Grey, but as previously mentioned, he's got some stiff competition. "White Collar" star Bomer is also getting a lot of "50 Shades" attention. He's even featured in three separate fan made trailers, as MStars points out.

Emilia Clarke and Henry Cavill to be cast in Fifty Shades of Grey movie? (FAN SHARE)

However, two other stars who have regularly been linked as possible candidates for the lead roles in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie are Henry Cavill and Emilia Clarke. Both stars are no strangers to getting their kit off, with Henry set to appear topless in the Man of Steel movie, while Emilia has appeared nude on more than the odd occasion in Game of Thrones.

'50 Shades of Grey' Movie: Henry Cavill and Emilia Clarke as Ana and Christian? February 07, 2013 11:40 PM EST (ENTERTAINMENT)

by Aida Ekberg

Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel also made the list, and it's not hard to see why they're a favorite couple—they've been featured together in a few very popular fan-made trailers. However, they might be a little too old to play Christian and Ana since they're both in their thirties.

This leaves Henry Cavill and Emilia Clarke as the best pairing. Henry is closer to being the right age to play Christian than Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder, and Emilia is the only actress out of the three on the list who has experience doing nude scenes. The 50 Shades film might even attract a crowd that's made up of more than lusty ladies if they get cast together—what geek wouldn't want to see the worlds of Game of Thrones and Man of Steel collide? Superman and Daenerys Targaryen would certainly make a powerful and pretty pair. And perhaps Henry and Emilia would bond over their shared experience of starring in throne-related TV series—Henry starred in The Tudors, which was about the life of King Henry VIII.

So do you think that Henry Cavill and Emilia Clarke would make the best 50 Shades pair?

Henry Cavill winning hearts and support for 'Fifty Shades of Grey' role (Photos) HENRY CAVILL FANPAGE!!! FIFTY SHADES OF GREY (EXAMINER)

The Henry Cavill Facebook Fanpage has over 23K followers and is growing daily. Although the site is not dedicated to the actor being cast as Christian Grey, the founders believe he would be a good choice. When asked about Henry being considered for the role they gave the following statement.

"Henry Cavill, above all other fan casted actors for this role, has the classic, timeless handsomeness to truly embody and manifest the enormity of impact that happens for women when in Christian's presence in E.L. James's "Fifty Shades of Grey". As Charles Brandon in Showtime's "The Tudors", Henry stole the screen as the Casanova Playboy. As Theseus in "Immortals (2011)" and as Will Shaw in "The Cold Light of Day (2012)" Henry proved he can play the tortured soul. Having seen Henry in person on three occasions, I can attest that the charisma Henry emanates is truly palpable. Everyone here at HCF believes that Henry would nail this role hands down if he is offered the opportunity and accepts it. Our fingers are crossed!"

Fans of the "Fifty Shades" trilogy are now picturing Cavill in the infamous playroom jeans, his popularity even surpassing Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer. Those who have long supported the above mentioned actors can see the appeal of Henry Cavill, especially after viewing online videos, his Dunhill Fragrance ad being the most popular. One "on the fence" fan tweeted about the ad, "trying to stay neutral who should play #Christian, many A+ actors, however this video screams Christian!"

Casting the "Fifty Shades" film is going to take time and as of yet there is not even a completed script or Director attached to the project. Fans are keeping up hope that Henry Cavill is being considered, especially amidst rumors of author E L James using him as inspiration for the character. There has also been some speculation that Producer Dana Brunetti's meeting with CAA last week was regarding Henry Cavill. The actor himself has spoke about the role saying, "whether that happens, that decision will be made at the time it has to be made, it would be a very different kind of thing than Man of Steel." He also sparked casting rumors when he showed up to the Critic's Choice Awards with newly highlighted copper locks, reminiscent of Christian Grey's description in the novel.

Henry Cavill vs. Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder December 06, 2012 05:15 AM EST (ENTERTAINMENT)

The 50 Shades of Grey movie recently seemed to get a new favorite for the role of Christian Grey in Man of Steel star Henry Cavill.

The actor didn't say no to the role when he was asked about playing Christian during a recent interview, so he became the most talked about casting option for a few days. But can Superman defeat heavy favorites Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder?

A new poll on Latinos Post has pitted ten of the favorites for the role against each other, and it looks like Henry is having a hard time catching up to his competition—he's going to need to use a little of his Superman speed to surpass the votes that Matt and Ian are getting.

Right now Ian Somerhalder is winning the poll with over 40 percent of the vote, and he's so far ahead that Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill couldn't beat him if they combined their votes together. Matt has about 28 percent of the vote while Henry is far behind at about 8 percent. Alexander Skarsgard is in fourth place with a little over 6 percent, and Ryan Gosling is trailing him closely with 5.5 percent.

Henry has a lot in common with Matt and Ian looks-wise. All the guys have angular jawlines that Anastasia Steele could use to saw her handcuffs off with, and they all have sexy eyes and buff bods. So why can't Henry catch up to his competition for the 50 Shades of Grey movie?

Henry Cavill: '50 Shades of Grey' Movie Casting News Soon? James Asks Fans to Pick Christian November 29, 2012 03:20 PM EST (GATHER ENTERTAINMENT)

by Aida Ekberg

The 50 Shades of Grey movie casting fever once got so hot that the film producers and author E. L. James tried to get fans to cool it—according to them, any casting news was still way too far off for fans to be so frenzied.

At times it has seemed like James and the producers find all the casting speculation a little annoying, and they've avoided talking about the casting process too much. So after putting all this effort into keeping fans calm, why in the world would E. L. James start fanning the flames by asking Fifty fans who they want to see as Christian Grey?

According to Entertainmentwise, the author whipped fans into a Twitter frenzy by asking them, "who do you want to play Christian Grey in the movie?" Their feedback included the likes of heavy favorites Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer, but now Man of Steel star Henry Cavill is also getting a bit more attention. The sexy new Superman was recently asked about starring in the 50 Shades of Grey movie, and he coyly responded by saying, "Whether that happens, that decision will be made at the time it has to be made."

Maybe Henry Cavill's comment had something to do with why James tweeted what she did. It's possible that Henry has been in talks to star in the movie and that James is trying to keep fans from focusing on his comments too much with her Twitter distraction. Asking Fifty fans who they want to see as Christian Grey makes it seem like no casting talks have been going on.

Fifty Shades of Grey Casting: Henry Cavill Over Ian Somerhalder For Christian? Fans Sound Off! about 1 hour ago by Gina Carbone (WET PAINT)

Who needs an official Fifty Shades of Grey film when there are dozens of fake ones out there right now on YouTube?

Creative fans have been very busy posting sexy trailers, with their favorite actors and actresses playing Christian and Anastasia. Handbag.com ranked its favorite Fifty Shades trailers, based possibly on choice of music and clever editing as much as which actors best represent the characters.

It does seem like the top names coming up for Christian Grey are Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer, but Handbag.com is making a good case for Henry Cavill (The Tudors, Man of Steel). Handbag's #1 was this trailer featuring Henry as Christian and Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) as Ana. Watch it here. Fair warning: We’re talking about Fifty Shades, so expect some raunchy images in all of these trailers.

'50 Shades of Grey' Movie: Michael Fassbender Talks About Being a Christian Favorite September 13, 2012 06:05 PM EDT

The 50 Shades of Grey movie favorites for the role of Christian Grey are dropping like flies.

First Ryan Gosling stopped speculation that he's in talks for the role by saying he doesn't know anything about 50 Shades except that it's a popular book, then Alexander Skarsgard revealed that he'd rather remake Lolita. And now Michael Fassbender has made it known that he's not exactly a Fifty fan, either.

Even though he's much too old to play 27-year-old business tycoon Christian, some Fassbender fans were hoping that the age of the whip-wielding dom with a dark past could be changed for the movie so that he could get cast.

However, here's what Michael Fassbender told The Mail about the 50 Shades of Grey movie:

"I haven't even read the book. You get your privates out and people assume you are some sex maniac."

So it definitely doesn't sound like he's interested

Henry Cavill:'50 Shades of Grey' Movie: Newly Single Henry Cavill the Perfect Christian Grey? August 21, 2012 10:25 AM EDT (CELEBS) by Rachel Lynn Member since: July 7, 2010

The 50 Shades of Grey movie may have just won itself a new frontrunner in British actor, Henry Cavill, for the highly buzzed-about role of business tycoon, Christian Grey. And the reason for his potential jump to the top of the casting roster could have everything to do with his personal life--and maybe a little bit of Superman action thrown in.

But will Cavill really have the superpowers to be able to win the coveted (and no doubt lucrative) role of Grey in the movie adaptation of E.L. James' blockbuster bestseller of a book?

His name isn't as boldly recognizable as the hunk hot list that's so far been thrown around. The romantic Ryan Gosling has been mentioned, but his stereotypical sensitive side (hello, The Notebook) could be a bit too soft for such a part. As well, Matt Bomer's name has been used in the same sentence of James' risqué read, as has Ian Somerhalder's. The Vampire Diaries heart-throb, who seems desperately interested in taking on the role, was even rumored to have revealed he's meeting with the 50 Shades filmmakers, but that report was quickly quashed by a producer. Even Robert Pattinson was brought up initially in the now-ongoing chatter about Christian Grey. But Team Edward seems like a now-obsolete part of the conversation.

Henry Cavill - Good Lord, now there's two of them? Are they breeding? Down girls.

Henry Cavill is the top picture, Matt Bomer from White Collar the bottom one.  Matt and Henry do look similar, don't they?  They could be vaguely related – Matt is the Pretty Brother, Henry is the Beefcake Brother
