The 50 Shades of Grey movie favorites for the role of Christian Grey are dropping like flies.

First Ryan Gosling stopped speculation that he's in talks for the role by saying he doesn't know anything about 50 Shades except that it's a popular book, then Alexander Skarsgard revealed that he'd rather remake Lolita. And now Michael Fassbender has made it known that he's not exactly a Fifty fan, either.

Even though he's much too old to play 27-year-old business tycoon Christian, some Fassbender fans were hoping that the age of the whip-wielding dom with a dark past could be changed for the movie so that he could get cast.

However, here's what Michael Fassbender told The Mail about the 50 Shades of Grey movie:

"I haven't even read the book. You get your privates out and people assume you are some sex maniac."

So it definitely doesn't sound like he's interested

The quest for the perfect cast to play Christian Grey in the upcoming film adaptation of E.L. James novel Fifty Shades of Grey is over.

It has been revealed that Henry Cavill, the English actor who will play Superman in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Man of Steel, served as inspiration for the Christian Grey character.

Stephanie Meyers, Twilight’s author, told MTV News back in 2009 that Cavill (then 24) would have been the perfect Edward Cullen – one of the main roles in the Twilight book and film series, that ended up being played by Robert Pattinson, and in which the famous fictional character of Christian Grey was purportedly inspired.



The claim lends legitimacy to the rumor that Cavill was already in preliminary talks with producer Michael De Luca in his home of Culver City, California, in early July as the actor attended Comic Con in San Diego to promote Man of Steel.

The 50 Shades of Grey movie may have just won itself a new frontrunner in British actor, Henry Cavill, for the highly buzzed-about role of business tycoon, Christian Grey. And the reason for his potential jump to the top of the casting roster could have everything to do with his personal life--and maybe a little bit of Superman action thrown in.

But will Cavill really have the superpowers to be able to win the coveted (and no doubt lucrative) role of Grey in the movie adaptation of E.L. James' blockbuster bestseller of a book?

His name isn't as boldly recognizable as the hunk hot list that's so far been thrown around. The romantic Ryan Gosling has been mentioned, but his stereotypical sensitive side (hello, The Notebook) could be a bit too soft for such a part. As well, Matt Bomer's name has been used in the same sentence of James' risqué read, as has Ian Somerhalder's. The Vampire Diaries heart-throb, who seems desperately interested in taking on the role, was even rumored to have revealed he's meeting with the 50 Shades filmmakers, but that report was quickly quashed by a producer. Even Robert Pattinson was brought up initially in the now-ongoing chatter about Christian Grey. But Team Edward seems like a now-obsolete part of the conversation.

The 50 Shades of Grey movie casting talk has recently been focused on White Collar star Matt Bomer, but now there's another actor starting to get a little more buzz - new Superman Henry Cavill.

Matt has been the focus of a lot of Fifty articles lately because American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis claimed that he was too gay to play Christian Grey. He argued that the actor who plays the role should be straight, but later relented and said that a gay actor could play the part. However, he still doesn't think that Matt Bomer is right for it.

So maybe Ellis will get behind straight star Henry Cavill. According to PolicyMic, a recent Facebook poll has shown that the actor is gaining his own fan following. So does he have what it takes to play the titillating tycoon who makes women swoon?

We aren't totally sure why Robert Pattinson threatened to actually "lick the pages" of the hot-selling novel 50 Shades of Grey when interviewed by MTV News at Comic-Con. But now that we know hottie Ryan Gosling and equally hot Prometheus' Michael Fassbender are frontrunners to play the movie's lead, we can relate a bit more to the thought behind it.

The two actors are being considered to play Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of the bestselling erotic e-novel by E.L. James. So far the highly anticipated upcoming movie has only announced the two-person producing team the British author hand-picked to take on the first in her trilogy series.
