Terrified of losing mother: Gerard Butler (TIMES OF INDIA)
The 43-year-old was brought up by his mother after his father walked out on them when he was a child.
Though his father later reunited with them, he says not knowing his dad for 14 years had a big impact on his life, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
He said: "It made me very dependent on my mother, in a good way, as I do have an amazing mother."
"I always had this terror of losing her. I used to have nightmares about it all the time. I was often on a beach, kneeling on some board and the board wouldn't move, and my mother would be calling me, and I couldn't get to her," he added.

Gerard Butler Broke Two Neck Bones Filming Olympus Has Falllen
The 300 star completed most of his own stunts in the upcoming film and Butler admits it really took a toll on his body.
He tells U.S. Tv host Jay Leno, "I was hit with a bullet casing in the eye, I ripped off a fingernail, banged up my knee... I used to sing, well that's debatable, but I lost my high notes and I went to the doctor and he said I had a serrated voice box... That was about a year ago. So I went back about a month ago and he looked down again and he said, 'You got a growth in your neck, you better go for an Mri (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) just in case.'
"So I go for an Mri and the woman comes out and says, 'Did you break a bone in your neck? You've got a bone sticking out of your neck.' I'm like, 'What?' So she says, 'You better go for a second opinion.' And so I go for another Mri and the doctor said, 'Did you break two bones in your neck?' I'm like, 'What?'

Gerard Butler: 'Olympus Has Fallen' is really a tale of 'redemption' (LA TIMES)
By Steven Zeitchik
March 22, 2013, 6:01 p.m.
If you head out to see the Gerard Butler action movie “Olympus Has Fallen” this weekend, you’re probably going for the pyrotechnics: The White House is blown to smithereens, the Washington Monument dramatically implodes, many bad guys die violently.
But Butler, who stars as the fallen Secret Service agent and one-man wrecking crew Mike Banning in the D.C.-under-fire-from-North-Korean-terrorists tale, sees in it something a little more … nuanced.
“This movie is a hero's journey about a guy who faces his demons and finds his redemption,” Butler told The Times when asked what he thought the movie was really about. Butler's character is wracked by guilt over a mistake that led to the death of the first lady.

Butler and Comrie Inc., a management company, are suing Randall Emmett and George Furla's Emmett/Furla Films after Butler agreed to be the lead actor for revenge thriller, where he was offered a fixed guaranteed compensation of $4 million.

Gerard Butler opens up about new romance (SF GATE)
Scottish movie star Gerard Butler has opened up about his relationship with Romanian model/actress Madalina Ghenea, insisting he is “happier and calmer” since they started dating.
The “300″ hunk fell for the European beauty when she was hired to help him promote a new razor for the Dubai-based Super Max brand last year, and the couple was first rumoured to be romantically involved in May.
Ghenea played down the claims at the time, stating, “Gerard is a friend of mine. We are friends and nothing more” – but Butler has now openly gushed about the beauty.

Pierce Brosnan kicked Gerard Butler’s ass while filming “Shuttered” Follow us: @IrishCentral on Twitter | IrishCentral on Facebook (IRISH CENTRAL)
Scottish actor Gerard Butler recalls getting all banged up by his Irish counterpart Pierce Brosnan a few years back when they were filming Butterfly on a Wheel, which was renamed Shuttered for its 2007 U.S. release.
Though the film didn’t make much of an impression, Butler was left with a painful remembrance long after production shut down – a busted neck and some broken ribs.
Brosnan and Butler were shooting a chase scene in Vancouver, with Pierce behind the wheel of a Range Rover. Pierce wound up losing control of the fancy car and crashing right into a wall, and Butler still vividly recalls the pain.
"Pierce ended up driving straight towards a wall and didn't apply the brakes in time and smashed right into it," Butler explains. "Initially we were fine, but I quickly realized my neck was out, my ribs came out, pretty painful stuff.”

Gerard Butler New Year's Eve Plans to go Pagan Posted by Adam Monday December 31, 2012 (SHOWBIZ SPY)
GERARD Butler has revealed his plans for New Year’s Eve — he’s going to a pagan festival!
The actor returns to his native Paisley, Scotland, most years to be with his family, and will be taking part in the traditional celebrations to cast out evil spirits as she sees 2013 in.
“I love New Year’s Eve,” he said. “I often end up in my local village in Scotland where my parents now live, and they have this pagan festival where everybody lights these wooden torches and marches around the village to cast out evil spirits. It’s amazing, it’s one of the coolest things.”
Gerard, 43, had some ups and downs in 2012, with him completing three weeks in the Betty Ford Center in February to be treated for a reliance on prescription drugs, although he says he is “glad” he went.

Gerard Butler: Having a ball (SCOTSMAN.COM)
By Alice Wyllie
Published on Sunday 30 December 2012 11:00
GERARD Butler has had a busy month. Dubai, Toronto, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Oslo. And Scotland.
He celebrated his 43rd birthday last month and knew he had to do it in the motherland, so he made a stopover on his way back to the US, where he lives between New York and LA.
Born and raised in Paisley, for Butler, Scotland is “a break” from a life lived 24/7, a place where he can “get out and breathe and be a part of the mountains, glens and lochs”. As such, he visits as often as he can, and today – a grey December morning in a bare hotel room in London – he can’t stop raving about a “magical” Highland trip he took in the summer.
“I just made it up as I went along,” he says excitedly. The adventure took him from a “haunted room” in Loch Lomond to Inverlochy Castle via various pitstops: “I was begging for a B&B at 1am in Plockton because everywhere was full and the barmaid ended up saying, ‘well, I have a B&B in another town if you want to come and stay there?’ It was nuts. A lot of my best trips have been those ones in Scotland where you never quite know they’re going to happen.”
He recalls another: “I was on my way to the airport and it just felt too soon. It was really breaking my heart. You know that feeling that only thinking about your country can ever give you, those butterflies?” He puts his hand on his heart.
“I was on the phone with my agent saying, ‘why am I leaving?’ And they said, ‘well don’t leave. Stay’. So I got to Edinburgh Airport and I carried on driving. I drove right through to Perth, went into an outdoors store and bought a tent and walking boots and spent the next few days camping and walking.”
Start him on the green green grass of home and he’s got plenty to say.

Why Movie Cads (Lookin' at You, Gerard Butler) Are Actually Good For Us (GLAMOUR)
by Megan Angelo
It would also make a perfect image for a textbook on cads, if such textbooks existed. Let me break this down for you, Girl Scout style, because you can avoid cads the same way you do poisonous plants—by knowing their markings.
You’ll notice several things. There’s the winning smile emerging from a background of don’t-give-a-#@$! stubble. A real giveaway here: the profusion of leather bracelets. Finally, there’s the longish, greasy hair. Though it would simply look dirty on, say, a well-adjusted accountant, it is curiously appealing on the cad.
Dangerous stuff.

Gerard Butler on Being a Flirt and Starting a Family (PARADE)
WALTER SCOTT ASKS ... Gerard Butler
The actor, 43, plays a former soccer star who tries to redeem himself as a husband and father by coaching his son’s soccer team, in the romantic comedy Playing for Keeps, now in theaters.
Your character has a way with the ladies. Is that something you relate to?
I’m famously a good flirt! That’s a Scottish thing: the Celtic charm. I can put on a big smile and say the right things, but I’m also a warm heart. I like to make people feel good.
Did playing a dad in the film make you think about being a father one day?
Absolutely! I think I’ll be a great dad, although I can’t wait too long because I’m getting on. I love kids. I really look forward to having toddlers running around.
