Henry Cavill: Comic-Con 2012: 'Man of Steel' footage and Superman Henry Cavill soar into San Diego By Jen Harper July 14, 2012 8:01 PM ET (ZAP 2 IT)

The packed audience at Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment's Saturday (July 14) panel at Comic-Con was already flying high after sneak peeks at upcoming films "Pacific Rim" and "Godzilla," so director Zack Snyder's presentation of new "Man of Steel" footage sent fans through the roof.

The movie's star Henry Cavill also made a surprise appearance, telling the audience, "It's a dream come true" to play Superman.

The clip screened at the panel shows only flashes of the film, including images of a young Clark Kent and Cavill in full Superman attire, as well as Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Russell Crowe as Jor'El. We also see a shirtless Clark Kent on fire and Superman crashing into a bank vault.

For a big-deal comic book movie set to come out a year from now, very little is known about Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. That is, until a synopsis surfaced, if only briefly, on the IMAX website laying down more plot details than we’ve seen up to this point:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Bruce Willis passes the action hero mantle down to his on-screen son - next summer's Superman - in the action-packed new trailer for The Cold Light of Day.

Though we won't get to see The Tudors star Henry Cavill don the blue and red outfit for director Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel' blockbuster until summer 2013, we can assess his action hero chops in the new clip for The Cold Light of Day. Cavill stars as a young American who uncovers a conspiracy during his attempt to save his family, who were kidnapped while on vacation in Spain. Before long he realises the truth about his father's (Willis) occupation and before long, he's jumping, shooting and climbing like the best of our square-jawed cinematic heroes.

Friday 23rd March 2012 THE soldier brother of Jersey Superman star Henry Cavill has been made an MBE after helping to capture a senior Taliban commander. While the Jersey-born actor will soon be known to millions as the legendary comic book hero Superman, the Man of Steel, his Marine brother, Major Nik Cavill, has proved to have nerves of steel after leading his troops on a series of missions in Afghanistan. And yesterday he was rewarded for his bravery in the special Operational Honours list announced at Admiralty House.
