Two minutes into my recent interview with Emily Blunt, the line suddenly died. We were talking about her new film, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, which opened this weekend, when a very aggressive dial tone inserted itself into our conversation. I sat looking at the phone, waiting for a return call from her assistant. Nothing. I reflected on the 117 seconds of conversation we’d had: nope, not enough to fill a magazine page. Given film stars’ tightly scheduled press junkets, I imagined the subsequent e-mails from the publicist: “Sorry the line died, but Emily’s schedule is completely full.” How to tell my editor there were now two blank pages in the magazine?
