Sean Bean in high heels (Herald.ie)
By Lisa Williams
Wednesday August 08 2012
THERE'S a reason why Sean Bean has been branded the thinking woman's bit of rough.
It's clear from the way he swaggers into his local pub in north London -- bringing with him the smell of fresh cigarette smoke -- and from those weathered good looks and that slow, deliberate Sheffield brogue.
As well as winning him legions of admiring fans, the reputation has served him well on screen: playing groundsman Mellors in TV bonkbuster Lady Chatterley, swashbuckling Sharp in Napoleonic war drama of the same name, warrior Eddard Stark in mythical epic Game Of Thrones and warlike Boromir in the blockbuster Lord Of The Rings films.

So it's a surprise, not least to the actor himself, to be talking to him today about waxing, wigs and high heels.
"My agent said, 'Have you thought about playing a transvestite?'. I said, 'Not really, no. Why?'," he recounts, his pale blue eyes creasing into a smile.
The answer was that Bean (53) had been put forward for a role in the second series of Accused, playing a teacher called Simon who, in his free time, transforms himself into a brassy, fun-loving blonde called Tracie.
It was an opportunity which Bean couldn't turn down, especially because the role was part written by Jimmy McGovern.
"I've always wanted to work on one of Jimmy's scripts. I was a big fan of The Street," he says.
