LAURA BUTLER – 11 MAY 2013
Her show may have a BAFTA nod and a successful opening season under its belt in the US, but Ripper Street actress Charlene McKenna says she still has a way to go before being known stateside.
Monaghan lass Charlene stars as Rose opposite Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn and Adam Rothenberg in the period drama. Her role is that of a prostitute, while her male cast mates play two policemen and a doctor living in Whitechapel in 1880s London in the aftermath of the Jack the Ripper murders.
With five million TV fans tuning in to the BBC slot across the UK and Ireland – and the series scoring successful ratings overseas – Charlene told The Diary the atmosphere was at a high on the set of season two in Dublin's Clancy Barracks.
She said: "There's definitely a lot more excitement now and everyone is getting stuck in to up things to the next level. There's a great buzz on the set, it's fantastic being back.
"I'm really looking forward to playing out my storyline this time around, too. Rose is in a very different forum and there are great things coming up for her."
