‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Allen Leech on Tom Branson, fear of death (MATT CARTER)

If there is one thing that the entire cast of “Downton Abbey” has to be somewhat prepared for at this point, it’s this: At almost any given point, their character may not make it through the week. Death comes often on this show, though it should be noted that it came a little more frequently during season 4 thanks largely to the fact that both Dan Stevens and Jessica Brown Findlay were each respectively leaving the show.

Allen Leech

But this fear of his character’s death has still struck a major chord in one of the show’s actors, which has led to him taking some pretty fascinating precautions every time he opens a script for the sake of his own sanity.

In a new interview with the Daily Star, the man behind Tom Branson in Allen Leech did his part to help explain just what happens whenever a new script comes in, and he wants to make sure he still has a job at the end of it:

“Everyone does one thing when they get their scripts – makes sure their name is still in it at the end to make sure they’re still alive… Only then do you start reading it properly.

“I think everyone worries they could be written out. They’ve got to keep it exciting and dramatic. It’s a drama at the end of the day. And that’s all certainly there for the fourth series.”

P Diddy’s ‘Downton Abbey role’ sees rapper encourage Maggie Smith lesbian kiss - shocking

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs will not be appearing on Downton Abbey after all, as his big debut in the series turned out to be a spoof skit he recorded for Funny Or Die.

The rapper has been heavily promoting his supposed appearance on the ITV period drama on his Twitter account, telling his followers that he was a ‘series regular’ on the show.

‘MY BIG NEWS: So happy to announce that Im a series regular on DOWNTON ABBEY-my favorite show+i’ll be debuting a sneak peek tonight 12am PST!.’ he wrote.

Numerous promotional messages followed, including: ‘Let the countdown begin!! 1 hour until i post a sneak peek at my debut on Downton Abbey !! Stay Tuned!’

But when the video finally appeared, it transpired that the tweets were just a reference to an elaborate spoof of the internationally popular drama.

In the four-minute clip, Diddy repeatedly refers to the programme as ‘Downtown Abbey’ and tells fans: ‘Yes, I am an Abbeyhead, proudly’.

He goes on to reference the fact that Downton has just cast its first black cast member, adding: ‘The only problem with this is, they already broke that barrier.

Jessica Brown Findlay shocked by onslaught of grief after Lady Sybil died in Downton Abbey (LONDON EVENING STANDARD)

The death of Lady Sybil in Downton Abbey left actress Jessica Brown Findlay facing an "onslaught" of grief from devastated friends, she revealed.

Jessica, 23, admits she wasn't prepared for the outpouring after her character died from eclampsia during childbirth in the last series.

Speaking to HuffPostUK, Jessica said: "The day Sybil died I was flying out to film in New York. Normally when you land somewhere, you get a couple of messages, but I had an onslaught from people saying, 'You could have warned me.'

"Even my parents knew I was dying, but they didn't know how, so my mum was in bits. My dad had to tell her, 'You can call her on the phone.' "

Despite being part of the successful show, Jessica was "desperate" to hang up her corset in favour of exploring other roles.

Former "Downton Abbey" star Jessica Brown Findlay regrets flashing her breasts in her first big-screen appearance.

The 23-year-old actress, known for her role as Lady Sybil in the PBS drama, played a character who had an affair with an older man in her first flick, "Albatross," in 2011.

"To be honest, 'Albatross' was naivety and not knowing that I could say no," Findlay told the Radio Times on her nude scene.

"I had no idea what was going to happen and thought I was going to be shot from behind."

'Downton Abbey' Season 3 Spoilers: Moving Forward After Lady Sybil's Death By Bobby Pollier, EnStarz | Jan 31, 2013 10:53 AM EST

"Downton Abbey" continues to flourish in the U.S., but although many fans remain loyal to the British-American drama, there are several who aren't too thrilled with the recent death of Lady Sybil.

While losing characters in a show will always be a mixed bag in terms of fan response, executive producer Gareth Neame told People that he sees the situation of Sybil's death when giving birth to her child as an opportunity for the series to go in a new and exciting direction.

"These exits can be good opportunities for the drama because they allow you to take the story in a different direction and change things in a way you hadn't quite thought of," he said. "It can be seen as a blow to lose characters, it can very often be as much an opportunity as it is a loss."

"Downton" creator Julian Fellowes said the public is smart enough to realize "that when Sybil dies or when [another character, whose identity is being concealed] dies, it is because the actor wanted to leave" the series - rather than a character dying just for the sake of the plot.

'Downton Abbey' Star Allen Leech On Lady Sybil's Death, The Christmas Special And Series 4 Posted: 24/12/2012 09:04 GMT | Updated: 24/12/2012 09:04 GMT (HUFFINGTON POST)

"Nothing is really as it seems," says 'Downton Abbey's' Allen Leech.

By the look of the show's Christmas special trailer, his character Tom Branson is about to embark on a love affair with the new maid Edna, after he's seen smooching her with his top off.

But the Irish actor is unaware that the scene is in the preview, and adds: "It would explain all those vicious tweets I've been getting recently."

After first appearing in the hit ITV period-drama as a chauffeur, Leech's outspoken character Branson has risen up the social ranks after marrying Lord Grantham's daughter Sybil, earning a legion of fans along the way.

Unfortunately, they weren't all so happy with how his character reacted when his beautiful wife died during labour...

"The abuse I got on Twitter after episode five was crazy, people care about the character so much... they asked 'Branson, why didn't you do more to save her?'

"I'm actually just an actor. I find it very dear that people care so much about her."

Sybil's death was one of the saddest scenes on TV this year. The baby - which promised to unite the fractured family once again - was on its way, but complications over the birth ignited a clash between old - the traditional administrations of purse-lipped surgeon Sir Philip (Tim Piggott-Smith) - and the new-fangled ways of Doctor Clarkson (David Robb).

'Downton Abbey' Season 3 episode 4: Lady Sybil's baby arrives, get out the hankies By Andrea Reiher January 27, 2013 10:00 PM ET (ZAP 2 IT)

This might just be the finest episode "Downton Abbey" has ever done. It is certainly a masterclass in acting from everyone involved. Be warned: Don't keep reading if you haven't watched yet.

Lady Sybil has died in childbirth. What an absolutely gut-wrenching hour of television. When Sybil goes into labor, there are some issues and Dr. Clarkson wants to move her to the hospital. But Lord Grantham's stuffy specialist Sir Phillip says everything is perfectly normal.

And a healthy baby girl arrives. But Sybil goes into seizures in the middle of the night and dies, with her family surrounding her, begging the doctors to do something. By that point it's too late.

Kudos to Elizabeth McGovern and Allen Leech as Cora and Tom. Their acting in Sybil's death scene was rip-your-heart-out good. This episode could really be anyone's Emmy reel, though -- from the Crawleys to the staff to Lady Violet. Maggie Smith's small moment at the end with Carson and then the hitch in her walk said more than 1000 words could express.

It was also a nice showing for Anna and Thomas, both of whom were closer to Lady Sybil than the other staff. Really just stellar work all around.

NEWS/Downton Abbey Recap: Sybil and Branson Are on the Lam by Christina Dowling Sun., Jan. 20, 2013 8:00 PM PST (E!)

WHAT WE LEARNED
It Was a Dark and Stormy Night: Tom Branson (Allen Leech) brought some rainy weather with him when he crossed the Irish Sea and he has quite the tale to tell. Something that is a surprise to no one who has watched Downton's previous two seasons is that Tom is fighting for an independent Ireland. We might as well admit we are huge nerds for Irish history, but if you aren't caught up you should probably get on Wikipedia so you understand the Maud Gonne, Countess Markievicz and Lady Gregory shout-outs. Long story short he was present—but feeling very guilty—when a country house was burned to the ground. Ruh. Roh.

Turns out that Tom, while he might be wanted for arson, isn't a terrible person who left Sybil pregnant and alone in Ireland. It was all part of the big escape plan. But presumably getting banished from Ireland and stuck at Downton was not. However it is terribly convenient for the Bransons to come back to stay: All the drama is back under one roof!

Out of Favor: Bates (Brendan Coyle) is still walking in circles in the most depressing place in the world. And even worse he hasn't been getting any letters from his dearly devoted wife, Anna (Joanne Froggatt). Bates learns he is actually quite good at working the system in prison. Maybe he's done some hard time before or just watched a lot of Oz.

Three Pushy Questions for Downton Abbey’s Executive Producer By Denise Martin

Downton Abbey returns in four days, and according to our critic Matt Zoller Seitz, everything is back in its proper place after having been flip-turned-upside-down during last year’s popular, if super-soapy, upswing. (If Matthew whines about dearest dead Lavinia one more time … ) However, before we move forward with the further adventures of the Crawley clan, there are three outstanding issues with the show that needed clearing up. To get some answers, we broke the rules of decorum and asked executive producer Gareth Neame to settle such nagging questions as why Americans must wait to see more episodes until the Brits have politely dined on them and retired to the drawing room, and just why things went all soapy last season.

Why doesn’t Downton air simultaneously in the U.K. and U.S. (so that we may avoid horrible spoilers of the Christmas-ruining variety)?

The producers took extra precautions to prevent the secrets and twists of season three from spilling; paparazzi-blocking security was added to location shoots, and scripts were marked with code names. So if Neame had his way, U.S. audiences would get to share in the first viewing. “In this day and age, it’s clearly ridiculous that people watch the show in England four months early and 1.5 million people in America go and watch it illegally,” he said. “If I were PBS and I had the biggest drama I’d ever had in my entire 40-year history, I would be sorting my schedules out to make sure I was airing it more quickly.” PBS didn’t shoot down the idea of airing future seasons of Downton earlier, but said “technical hurdles and financial considerations” have prevented it in the past. And by airing in January, PBS avoids having to compete with the glut of new shows that the broadcast networks premiere in the fall. “Obviously, spoilers and piracy are two key reasons supporting the case to air Downton Abbey closer to the U.K. broadcast,” a rep for Masterpiece told Vulture. “The conversation about scheduling will continue.”

October 16, 2012 Lady Sybil’s shock death boosts Downton Abbey ratings as 9.5million tune in to watch heart-breaking scenes Категории: News @ 15:07 — Comments (0)

The death of popular Downton Abbey character Lady Sybil was kept a closely guarded secret until Sunday’s dramatic episode.

However, despite viewers being previously unaware of what woes were to come in the episode, it proved a ratings winner, with 9.5million tuning in.

The period drama managed 100,000 more viewers than The X Factor results show, which screened just before on 1TV1.

WHY DOWNTON’S DOCTOR CLAIMS LAURA HAS SUFFERED A RAW DEAL (EXPRESS CO.UK)

By Sharon Feinstein

Actor David Robb is no less forthright in real life, claiming in an exclusive interview with the Daily Express that Laura Carmichael (who plays Lady Edith) has been given a raw deal by the hugely popular show’s makers.

He also offers a teaser that the doctor may be about to embark on a relationship with Matthew Crawley’s mother Isobel.

Laura, whose character was jilted at the altar, is underrated and every bit as attractive as her screen sisters Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) and Jessica Brown Findlay (Lady Sybil), he says.

Robb adds: “Laura, who plays the middle sister, is very underappreciated because she is not a plain Jane by any means. In fact she’s quite gorgeous.

“She’s meant to be a plain Jane because you can’t have three gorgeous girls so the middle one has got to be the one who doesn’t get the blokes. Well Laura might not be as classically striking as the other two but she’s extremely attractive.”

And while the real upstairs, downstairs worlds would never socialise, at Downton Abbey, behind the scenes, the story is different.

Giving away some fascinating insights, Robb, 65, says Maggie Smith (Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess) does crosswords with Jim Carter (head butler Carson), while Phyllis Logan (Mrs Hughes),  with whom he has had a 30 year friendship, and Michelle greet everyone with huge hugs.
