Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs will not be appearing on Downton Abbey after all, as his big debut in the series turned out to be a spoof skit he recorded for Funny Or Die.
The rapper has been heavily promoting his supposed appearance on the ITV period drama on his Twitter account, telling his followers that he was a ‘series regular’ on the show.
‘MY BIG NEWS: So happy to announce that Im a series regular on DOWNTON ABBEY-my favorite show+i’ll be debuting a sneak peek tonight 12am PST!.’ he wrote.
Numerous promotional messages followed, including: ‘Let the countdown begin!! 1 hour until i post a sneak peek at my debut on Downton Abbey !! Stay Tuned!’
But when the video finally appeared, it transpired that the tweets were just a reference to an elaborate spoof of the internationally popular drama.
In the four-minute clip, Diddy repeatedly refers to the programme as ‘Downtown Abbey’ and tells fans: ‘Yes, I am an Abbeyhead, proudly’.
He goes on to reference the fact that Downton has just cast its first black cast member, adding: ‘The only problem with this is, they already broke that barrier.
