Top 5 Prestigious Awards Of The World (Bold Sky)

Celebrities often gain more respect and status with awards. Although stars say that awards only motivate them to give more to their fans, they also make big money by hiking prices in the future movie projects. Prestigious awards help stars get the global recognition and make them feel that they have achieved big. Today, we will discuss on the top 5 awards that are worth winning for a lifetime. Take a look.

Top 5 Most Famous And Prestigious Awards

1. Nobel Prize - The international award was named after the inventor of dynamite “Alfred Nobel” and was first presented in 1901. The awards are given to the those people who have made it big in the field of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, economics and peace. The irony is that the award in the name of the inventor of dynamite which destroys mankind is given to a person who fights for peace.

2. Oscars (Academy Awards) – The always talked about awards across world began in 1929. They are longer restricted to Hollywood alone but have become international in recognising the talent across world. Apart from films, animations, television shows are also awarded. Having the oscar statuette itself is a status symbol and Walt Disney is highest award winner (has won 20 awards).

3. Booker Prize – To recognise the art of writing or depicting stories and facts, the famous booker prize award was set up in 1968. Each year, the best novel writer gets the award.

4. BAFTA Awards - The British award is next or rather equivalent to Oscars. The Academy of Film and Television Arts awards began in 1947 and actress Judi Dench has won the most number of awards (8) for her television and film roles.

5. Golden Globe Awards – The US film awards started in 1943. Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks are the highest nominees and award winners. Last year's golden globes host Ricky Gravais created a lot of controversy by ridiculing stars through statements.

Even the international film festival awards held in Cannes, south France is one of the most famous and prestigious awards one can win in a lifetime. For celebrities just being invited (not even nominated) for these awards is big. They wear highly fashionable outfits designed by the A-class fashion houses across world. Even being the host of such awards is a matter of prestige and talent to many.

Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville on Butlers, Historical Accuracy, and Watching Season Two Online (Vulture)

Vulture Main

Hugh Bonneville.

Downton Abbey, the soapy British period drama created by Gosford Park's Julian Fellowes, ended last season on the eve of World War I. Its second season begins this Sunday on PBS, with the entire estate, both upstairs and downstairs, mobilized for war. We spoke with Hugh Bonneville, who plays Downton's patriarch, Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, about the show's appeal, its historical accuracy, and his character's doting dogs. He also gave us a firm talking-to for watching season two on the Internet.

Would you want to have a butler in real life?
No, I think it’s pretty demeaning. Actually, no, I don’t think it’s demeaning to have a butler because a lot of people take great pride in service, as is one of the points of the show. I think because I’ve been brought up in an environment where you do make do for yourself I’d find it very strange. I would like to have a driver. I’d be happy with a chauffeur.

If you had to put yourself back in that time and place, where do you think you would fall in the scheme of it?
I think I’d probably be head gardener. I might rise to head footman. Head footman is pretty good, actually. You have a degree of respect from others around you, but none of the massive responsibility.

Do you think that it’s realistic to show servants so accepting of their roles in this show?
I think it’s very easy to put our modern credentials on an era in which, let’s face it, unless you had money and position in society, there was very little opportunity. And to be in service, and to do it well, was a huge feather in your cap. There’s no question that for 99 percent of the population, life was shit in 1912 or 1913. But we’re creating a fictional world where it so happens that the Earl is a generous-minded figure. Yes, it is a feudal system, but he realizes that if one cog in the machine breaks down, the whole system’s fucked, so it’s in his interest to keep the cogs turning. This is a world before civil welfare. A world before any national health system like we have in the U.K. So I think it’s too easy to say they’re being treated appallingly. Their prospects would probably be a little bit bleaker if they were working somewhere other than Downton. So, yes, it’s a fiction, but the bottom line is that it’s a fictional world. We’re not saying this is social history.

Although it does seem like people are very concerned with the historical detail.
There was a letter in the newspapers only yesterday about the season finale, that you haven’t seen yet, I don’t think.

I’ve actually already watched it on the Internet.
I wish you hadn’t told me you had watched it illegally, that’s really pissing me off. Shame on you. Be ashamed.

… You were saying about a letter in the newspaper?
There was a letter yesterday where someone says, "I hear that on the shooting party that takes place someone is seen wearing gators — they would not have worn gators." My favorite one was in season one, when Thomas the footman, after Cora’s had the miscarriage, says, "I don’t see what all the fuss is about, the baby would only have been the size of a hamster." And someone wrote in saying the footman used the wrong word because the Syrian hamster was not introduced in northern Europe until 1922; the actor should have said “small rabbit." That’s just ludicrous. But I suppose if we’d been a flop, no one would write in.

There’s a dog that’s always following you around on the show.
In season one it’s called Ferrer, and in season two it’s called Isis. It’s a new dog. Ferrer dies, but off-screen; it’s not dealt with. Julian sort of tried to fop it off as the same dog and I said, "Look, there’s a big difference." The first one, Roly, who played Ferrer, his main focus was the next treat, a piece of chipolata. The next dog, Isis, played by Ellie, her main interest is wagging her tail a lot, usually near valuable vases, and skipping around really not listening to anything anyone says. And chipolata. So she has a very vibrant personality and zero sense of self-control.

What do you think is so appealing about the show?
I wish I knew the answer to that. If I knew the answer, I’d be a millionaire. I think partly it’s that people enjoy watching period drama. There’s a sense of escape to a world that seems to be a better world, a fairer world, that we would like to live in. But I think what’s different about this is it’s not an adaptation of a Jane Austen or a Dickens or a George Elliott. Because no one knows what happens next, because it’s actually been written freshly. So it has the best elements of soap, and if you get bored of one character there’s always another one coming along in a minute.

Clive Owen and his Burger King commercial in Spain (youtube) (Brand Channel)

Posted by Shirley Brady on December 21, 2011 10:44 AM

Do not adjust your computer monitors — yes, that's British actor Clive Owen in an - ahem - cheesy spot for Burger King Spain, and not a celeb commercial spoof by Funny or Die. (Watch the spot's 'making of' below.) Other than appearing as "The Driver" in The Hire, the award-winning series of short films for Mercedes-Benz directed by Guy Ritchie and featuring his then-wife, Madonna, Owen isn't known for commercial endorsements.

Back in the U.S., Burger King is about to be unseated from its "perennial No. 2" position in the burger wars, the Wall Street Journal reports, with Wendy's poised to take over second spot in U.S. sales for 2011, following McDonald's. According to year-end projections by market research firm Technomic for the Journal, "Americans are expected to spend more than $175 billion at fast-food restaurants this year, up about 3% from 2010. Wendy's U.S. same-store sales are forecast to rise 1.1%, while Burger King's U.S. and Canada same-store sales will drop 3.9%."

Great film review for My Week with Marilyn

The Hollywood Reporter

My Week With Marilyn: Film Review

My Week With Marilyn film still - 2011
Weinstein Co.

The Bottom Line

Michelle doing Marilyn is something to see, but nothing else here matches her for charm or inspiration.

Venue

New York Film Festival

Cast

Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Emma Watson, Judi Dench, Dominic Cooper

Director

Simon Curtis

Simon Curtis' biographical drama co-stars Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne and Judi Dench.

NEW YORK – The luminous Michelle Williams gives a layered performance that goes beyond impersonation in My Week With Marilyn. Playing both the damaged, insecure woman and the sensual celebrity construct, as well as the role with which Marilyn Monroe was struggling during a particularly difficult shoot, Williams gets us on intimate terms with one of Hollywood’s most enduring and tragic icons. If much of what surrounds her in Simon Curtis’ biographical drama is less nuanced, her work alone keeps the movie entertaining.
Monroe’s co-star and director on the picture, Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) had acquired his professional discipline and classical training slogging away in repertory theater companies. As portrayed here, he shows little patience for Monroe’s chronic tardiness, her nervous jitters and her infuriating devotion to Method acting. Things get off to a bad start when she keeps a cast that includes the illustrious Dame Sybil Thorndike (Judi Dench) standing around in full costume for two hours on the first day of shooting.

Recently married to Arthur Miller (Dougray Scott) and anxious to be taken seriously as an actress, Marilyn has her own on-set, one-woman pep squad to run interference in acting coach Paula Strasberg (ZoëWanamaker), whose maternal instincts appear not without self-interest.
The culture-clash element slips in and out of focus in Hodges’ script, bringing only obvious insights to the incompatibility between seasoned British professionals and an unschooled actress whose fragility was equal to her fame. The film finds more texture, if not much more substance, in the delicate quasi-romance at its center between Marilyn and Colin (Eddie Redmayne).

The son of a well-connected family, Colin begins dating Lucy (an underused Emma Watson), who works in wardrobe. But he grows steadily more mesmerized by Marilyn. When Miller retreats to New York, Colin gains her trust and is called upon to mediate during crises. But despite repeated warnings to avoid getting in too deep, he falls under her spell, bewitched as much by the sad child-woman as by the dream goddess.

Redmayne strikes a fine balance between blind adoration and a more manful urge to protect Marilyn. His work, as much as Williams’ bruised candor, makes their scenes together captivating.
“That’s the first time I’ve kissed anyone younger than me,” she says after a brief lip-lock during a day of truancy from the set. “There’s a lot of older guys in Hollywood.” That duality -- guileless and jaded, instinctive and knowing, helpless and manipulative -- is key to Williams’ characterization. While there are no startling new insights, she harnesses the essence of Marilyn as a fully sexualized being and a lost girl caught up in something she both needs and fears. Williams also does her own singing, nailing Monroe’s breathy vocal style in clips of her doing “Heatwave” and “That Old Black Magic.”

Beyond its lead performance, the film suffers from the chintzy counterfeit feel of too many screen recreations of real-life celebrity tales. (Think Edie Sedgwick biopic Factory Girl, or Truman Capote drama Infamous.) Dench has a couple of lovely moments when Thorndike graciously extends a sympathetic hand to Monroe, but other characters like Scott’s Miller or Julia Ormond’s Vivien Leigh are merely check marks on a famous-name roll call.

Branagh takes his cue from one of Olivier’s hammier film turns, windily quoting Prospero while vacillating between pompous eye-rolling and humbled admiration. He does show the odd flicker of life, particularly when Larry’s vanity or petulance reveal themselves. But there’s barely a character beneath the so-so imitation.

Fault lies with both Hodges’ workmanlike script and Curtis’ failure to excavate much psychological depth. The director comes from an extensive background in theater and television, notably the two Cranford series and the gripping, under-appreciated crime mini, Five Days. (The roster of accomplished British actors turning up in nothing roles, among them Dominic Cooper, Derek Jacobi, Toby Jones and Simon Russell Beale, attests to his clout.) But while he does coax marvelously loose work from Williams, Curtis’ first theatrical feature is otherwise starchy and short on perspective.

The movie looks polished and smartly recreates the period, often filming on the same Pinewood Studios sets where The Prince and the Showgirl was shot. But its slickness feels a little anonymous. Beyond the not-inconsiderable enjoyment of watching Williams inhabit a pop-culture legend, My Week With Marilyn is superficial showbiz pageantry.

Judi Dench, Eddie Redmayne - "My Week with Marilyn"

STAGE TUBE: Sneak Peek of Eddie Redmayne, Judi Dench in MY WEEK WITH MARILYN

Thursday, October 6, 2011; Posted: 02:10 PM - by BroadwayWorld TV

The New York Film Festival will feature My Week with Marilyn, directed by Simon Curtis and starring Tony winner Eddie Redmayne, and will have its world premiere on October 9 as the Centerpiece at Alice Tully Hall.

Michelle Williams stars in My Week with Marilyn as Marilyn Monroe, as seen through the diaries of British filmmaker Colin Clark (played by Eddie Redmayne). The film is set in the summer of 1956, during an idyllic week in which the young Clark introduced Monroe to British life, providing welcome relief from the pressures of Hollywood.

"After seeing Marilyn Monroe so often portrayed in films as a caricature, it is a pleasure to see this complex personality and unique on-screen presence portrayed so well by such a talented actress as Michelle Williams," said Richard Peña, Film Society program director and chair of the NYFF selection committee today.
