Chiwetel Ejiofor, "Dancing on the Edge" (Starz)
Martin Freeman, "Fargo" (FX)

The Broadcast Television Journalists Assn. announced nominations for the 4th Annual Critics' Choice Television Awards on Wednesday. "Fargo," "Masters of Sex," "The Good Wife," "The Big Bang Theory" and "The Normal Heart" were the most-nominated programs of the year, with five nods apiece.

On the strength of the limited series "Fargo," adapted from the Coen brothers' 1996 movie, the offbeat comedy "Louie" and the Cold War drama "The Americans," FX has the most nominations of any network. It is followed closely by awards heavyweight HBO (18), which scored nods for the film adaptation of Larry Kramer's play "The Normal Heart" as well as fantasy epic "Game of Thrones," political satire "Veep," Brooklyn-set "Girls," tech-world comedy "Silicon Valley" and gay drama series "Looking."

Sherlock's girlfriend on kissing Benedict Cumberbatch: “It was lovely and very soft”

Sherlock's girlfriend on kissing Benedict Cumberbatch: “It was lovely and very soft”

What's it like to kiss Sherlock Holmes? One woman can tell you.

Yasmine Akram, the actor lucky enough to have been cast as Sherlock's girlfriend Janine, says kissing Benedict Cumberbatch in the final episode of Sherlock was an absolute delight. “It was lovely and very soft,” she told RadioTimes.com, adding that it would be top of her list of things to do with her afternoon.

His Last Vowdraws to a close the third series of BBC1's colossal hit Sherlock, written by Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, and Stephen Thompson. It sees Sherlock face the man he despises more than any other: the merciless newspaper baron (and “Napoleon of blackmail”) Charles Augustus Magnussen, played by The Killing's imperious Lars Mikkelsen. It also ends with what looks very much like the imminent resurrection of Moriarty, believed to have died at the end of series two (Moffat may be going back on his words: “He shoots himself in the brains. You don't come back from that”).

The first shock viewers will experience, however, is the early addition of a girlfriend for Sherlock, with whom he shares a bath and other cosy domestic moments. Girlfriends, says Sherlock in the first series, are “not really my area”. It is distinctly unsettling to see the detective being cute and cuddly with another human being.

Akram says the steamy scenes with Cumberbatch were “bound to put a few noses out of joint” and that she would probably be the envy of a great number of fans: “Those first 20 minutes, half an hour, people are going to be like 'Whaaaat!?'”

She says that although the kissing scene came at the end of a shoot that lasted about five hours, there would have been nobody better to kiss than Cumberbatch: “It was absolutely lovely”. She also explains that her performance would not have been as good without Cumberbatch as a co-star: “He doesn't intimidate you; he was just very kind and generous.”

Sherlock: His Last Vow – 11 spoiler-free finale teasers

METRO

Friday 10 Jan 2014 10:18 am

Ahead of Sherlock’s series three finale, here’s a spoiler-free preview of 11 things to watch out for on Sunday evening.

1. Two adventures in one

His Last Vow draws on two of Conan Doyle’s original short stories.

The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton features a notorious and unpleasant blackmailer. His Last Bow is Holmes’ final case before he retires.

2. ‘Magnussen’, not ‘Milverton’

The bespectacled villain glimpsed fleetingly at the end of The Empty Hearse was named before the series as Charles Augustus Magnussen. He’s played by Lars Mikkelsen, star of Danish dramas Borgen and The Killing.

Like his literary counterpart Milverton, Magnussen is a notably unpleasant character. In the BBC trailer for this episode, a disgusted Sherlock declares, ‘I’ve dealt with murderers, psychopaths … none of them can turn my stomach like Charles Augustus Magnussen.’

3. A darker tone

There’s much less humour than in the first two episodes. His Last Vow is arguably the darkest and most intense episode of Sherlock ever.

4. Where’s Sherlock?

As the episode begins, John and Mary have not seen Sherlock for a while. He’s been keeping some unusual company in the meantime.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman: HOLMES AND WATSON RETURN IN JANUARY

SHE KNOWS ENTERTAINMENT

Posted in Entertainment / Television

Mark your calendars! Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Sherlock on Jan. 19.

Sherlock Season 3

PBS made the official announcement today that they'll air the premiere of Sherlock Season 2 on Jan. 19, immediately following Downton Abbey, which will premiere on Jan. 5. So far, all we have to go on is a very vague preview from BBC One.

We're quite excited about PBS's pairing of Downton and Sherlock. According to the station, it's all part of a new effort to pair dramas together on a certain night in an effort to raise viewership for the public station. Their acquisition of Downton alone has already paid off quite handsomely. Sunday primetime grew 26 percent during the last season of Downton. Pairing the well-loved Sherlock with it can only boost their ratings.

The official air dates for all three episodes in Season 2 are:
Jan. 19 — Episode "The Empty Hearse"
Jan. 26 — Episode "The Sign of Three"
Feb. 2 — Episode "His Last Vow"

See you in January, Cumberb****es!

Sherlock Season 3 SPOILERS: Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Amanda Abbington Spotted Filming On Location In Wales; Scenes From Episode 3, ‘His Last Vow’; Sherlock Disguised As A Tramp

Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have been spotted filming on location for “Sherlock” Season 3 in new photos that suggest some spoilers.

The Daily Mail reports that Benedict Cumberbatch, 37, was seen looking “uncharacteristically scruffy” on location in Cardiff, Wales, with co-star Martin Freeman, meaning that Sherlock may not be as well-groomed this season.

“And in stark contrast to his usually pristine appearance, the star cut a distinctly bedraggled figure in baggy tracksuit bottoms, a scruffy polo shirt and an oversized navy blue raincoat,” the Mail reports.

“Benedict's hair was looking a little out of place, and he seemed to be sporting a little facial hair as he went in disguise as a tramp. “

The Mail writes that Cumberbatch was in-character as Sherlock, who is in disguise as a homeless person in the scene.

Freeman, 41, wore a plaid button-down shirt and cardigan with his hair swept to the side – and he was missing the mustache his character, John, sports in the Season 3 trailer – meaning it likely won’t last for long.
