Henry Cavill Nominated For 'Critics Choice' Award

HENRY CAVILL ORG
Monday, 16 December 2013 18:12

It's official: Henry Cavill is among the nominees of Critics' Choice Movie Awards! He will compete for the award as the best actor in an action movie. His nomination is the only one for Man of Steel at the Critics' Choice Awards.

The highlight of Henry's acting career to date happened this year — it was the Man of Steel in which he played the title role of Superman. Immediately after the premiere audiences unanimously recognized Henry as Superman for our generation. Critics also were smitten by his screen incarnation of Superman, and, as a result, Henry Cavill is now nominated for the Critics' Choice Movie Awards.

In a nomination for best actor in an action movie, Henry Cavill will compete for the award with such stars as Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man 3), Brad Pitt (World War Z), and Mark Wahlberg (Lone Survivor).

This is the first time Henry has received a nomination for Best Actor. We are very proud of him and wish him luck in winning.

New Couple Alert! Henry Cavill Reportedly Dating Kaley Cuoco by Lily Harrison and Marc Malkin (E!)

Henry Cavill, Kaley Cuoco
Is Superman still single? Apparently not. E! News has learned that Henry Cavill is dating sitcom darling Kaley Cuoco. The blond actress seemed to have hinted at the budding romance in a recent post on her Twitter account. Cuoco shared a pic of her sitting next to a movie poster for Man of Steel and wrote, "Everyone go see "man of steel". It's fantastic in every single way." She posed with her mouth open, gazing at the hunky heartthrob in the adorable photo.

The TV star most recently split with musician Bret Bollinger and had previously dated her costar Johnny Galecki.

She and Galecki had kept their two-year romance (and engagement) under wraps throughout the entire relationship.

Cavill was also on the single scene after splitting with girlfriend Gina Carano earlier this year.

Cavill and Carano made their red carpet debut in January at the Critic's Choice Movie Awards, just months after it was announced that he had ended his long-term engagement to Ellen Whitaker.

Cavill is easily one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors after landing the coveted role of Superman.

Daniel Day-Lewis on verge of Oscar history as he wins Critics Choice (HERALD)

By Kirsty Blake Knox
Friday January 11 2013

Daniel Day-Lewis has taken his first step towards triple-Oscar glory by winning the coveted Best Actor gong at the Critics Choice Awards.

The Critics Choice Awards, held in California, are regarded as the most reliable guide to who will bag an Academy Award at next month's glitzy show.

And Day-Lewis (55) has taken one step closer to that golden statuette which, if he wins, will make him the only male actor in history to win a hat-trick of Best Actor Oscars. Katharine Hepburn, a 1930s super star wholater enjoyed a career revival, won four academy awards for best actress.

The 18th annual Critics Choice ceremony was attended by some of Hollywood's biggest names last night.

Anne Hathaway (30) showed off her pixie do in a shimmering Oscar de la Renta gown. Emily Blunt (29) showed off her petite physique in a fitted white dress with an embellished pearl neckline.

Her film Looper picked up the award for Best Sci-Fi.

But all eyes were on Day-Lewis, who lives in Co Wicklow, and is on the verge of making Oscar history.

Only nine men including Marlon Brando, Spencer Tracy, Tom Hanks and Dustin Hoffman have taken home the Oscar for Best Actor twice. But Day-Lewis, who holds both an Irish and British passport, will over take them all over if he wins his third award.

It is the actor's fifth nomination in the category. In 1989 he won the gong for his portrayal of Christy Brown in the movie My Left Foot.

And in 2007 Day-Lewis struck Oscar gold again for his role as Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock: Critics' Choice Awards Prove They're Ready for Prime Time Hillary Atkin ■ Posted June 20, 2012 at 7:23 AM (TV WEEK)

Was it really elementary that PBS’s “Sherlock" was awarded the trophies for best movie/miniseries and best actor in a movie/miniseries? The real question could be, who is Benedict Cumberbatch and why did critics love him more than Kevin Costner in History’s vaunted “Hatfields & McCoys”?

Having not yet seen “Sherlock,” but getting the message from colleagues that we are sure to get hooked on it, we have only the clue that Mr. Costner felt that this awards fest was important enough to show up -- and the inkling that he will be rewarded by Emmy voters.

Lara Pulver: The infamous 111-second scene with Sherlock that made my career go pop Rosamund Urwin 15 June 2012 (LONDON EVENING STANDARD)

If Lara Pulver is sick of talking about that scene, she does a convincing job of hiding it. But the one thought about her naked turn as dominatrix Irene Adler in BBC1’s Sherlock Benedict Cumberbatch that she can’t stomach is that some of the 2.5 million viewers who watched it on iPlayer might have paused every frame. At this, she looks horrified, puts her fingers in her ears and sings: “La la la la la. I don’t want to know.”

When I mentioned to male colleagues that I had interviewed Pulver, they went gooey-eyed — although the 31-year-old has plenty of female admirers too. And now she has won international recognition for the role, with a nomination for the American Critics’ Choice Television Awards, alongside Jessica Lange,  Julianne Moore and Emily Watson.

“I’ve won, just in my name being read out with those ladies,” she says. “It’s so weird. You never know in an acting career what’s going to pop. I’ve done one 90-minute episode and more people talk to me about that than anything else.”

When she read the script for A Scandal in Belgravia, she had just finished filming the final series of Spooks, and was flying back to Los Angeles, where the Kent-born actress lives: “It was one of those moments when you think ‘turn the plane around! I have to do this job’.”

As well as drawing in almost nine million TV viewers on the night, the episode also attracted 100 complaints. “I think the human form is something to celebrate. And you don’t actually see anything. That’s why we spent eight hours shooting that scene because if you saw a tiny bit of nipple ...” She breaks off. “It is so cleverly shot by [director] Paul McGuigan, that it is what you don’t see that makes your imagination go crazy.”

Shooting the scene sounds a logistical nightmare: “Our producer was going through it with the BBC — ‘So you can have one out-of-focus buttock but not two out-of-focus buttocks.’ It was kinda hilarious what she had to adhere to.”

Pulver was completely nude for the scene “apart from Louboutins and some beautiful diamond earrings”, turning down the offer of a self-adhesive gel bra and pants: “They actually made me feel more uncomfortable.”

But there were filming considerations too: “Paul McGuigan took me to one side and said: ‘Look, we’re going to spend probably 14 hours shooting this with that stuff on because if we see a glimpse of it, we can’t use it.’ [Being naked gave] an inch more space to play with. Otherwise, if I wasn’t spot on my mark, it was a complete waste of time ... It would have been: ‘We have to go again, we can see a bit of gel bra coming out of Benedict’s left eye’.” She admits being “scared out of her wits to take her clothes off” but adds: “It was empowering to go, ‘In my rawest physical form, in my skin and bones, I am okay.’ I didn’t crumble. I had a minor freak out inside but was able to do my job.”
