Hugh Grant a father for second time (INDEPENDENT IE)

Actor Hugh Grant has become a father for the second time and announced the news on his Twitter account - but warned the press to leave his family "in peace".

The Notting Hill and Bridget Jones star is "thrilled" to have welcomed a baby boy, a brother for his one-year-old daughter Tabitha, with Chinese actress Tinglan Hong - a relationship that started out as a "fleeting affair".

The 52-year-old film star has almost been more famous for his appearance at the Leveson Inquiry and his campaigning for a more responsible press of late than for his films, and his tweets are not without a reference to that passion.

He tweeted: "In answer to some journos. Am thrilled my daughter now has a brother. Adore them both to an uncool degree. They have a fab mum.

"And to be crystal clear. I am the Daddy.

Has the World stopped spinning? Oh wait, yes it has.

Well, that would go some way towards explaining why Rupert Murdoch, of all people, deigned to (brace yourselves) make a public apology to the tabloid-scorned Hugh Grant.

But not, as it happens, for the gross invasion of privacy that was the tabloid phone-hacking scandal.


Nope. Instead, the conservative News Corp. media mogul took to Twitter this week and offered up an apology on a far more personal matter: namely, Hugh's parenting skills.

"Hugh Grant states that he is deeply involved in his daughter's life—I accept that, regret tweet on the matter. Apologies to both parents," the 81-year-old wrote yesterday.

The uncharacteristic about-face came just a day after he first called out the British rom-com vet in an offense-causing tweet that came courtesy of an exchange with another Twitter user earlier this week.

The mother of Hugh Grant's baby has received a high court undertaking from a picture agency not to pursue or harass her, in a ruling that could give celebrities new protection against paparazzi photographers.

Mr Justice Tugendhat has issued an order accepting the "permanent undertakings" from celebrity news agency Splash News "not to doorstep, pursue or harass Tinglan Hong or her child with paparazzi photography or place either of them under surveillance or approach within 100 metres of their home".

The order is the latest stage in Grant's legal campaign to get photographers banned from outside Hong's home.

Last year Hong told the high court how her life has been made "unbearable" by the constant pursuit by photographers, including "a tall man in his 30s" driving a black Audi car who she claimed caused her to crash.

She claimed that on some occasions as many as 10 or more people have been camped outside her house, staying all night even in the rain, in the hope of getting a picture.

Her account of her experience since she gave birth to Grant's child last year emerged in November when Tugendhat gave his reasons for granting an injunction forbidding harassment by unnamed photographers of Hong.

Hugh Grant feared he would lose contact with his daughter if his ex Tinglan Hong was unable to obtain a court order banning the paparazzi from harassing her - because she was ready to jet back to her native China and take his baby with her.

The Notting Hill star became a first-time father in October (11) following a brief fling with Chinese model/actress Hong, but he worried he'd have to fly to the Far East to see his child when his ex complained about her lack of privacy in London.

She was forced to appeal to the U.K. authorities to help protect her and her daughter after finding herself constantly hounded by photographers. Luckily for Grant, she was granted a protective order prohibiting harassment in November (11) and the actor, who is still "very friendly" with his one-time lover, is relieved things worked out.

Hugh Grant: Yes, Fatherhood Is Life-Changing After All (PEOPLE)

Just last month, Hugh Grant didn’t seem entirely sure about whether fatherhood had changed him. Now, he’s willing to concede it has indeed.

“Everyone was right all these years, saying, ‘Hugh, why don’t you have some children? It changes your life,’ ” the actor, 51, and dad to 6-month-old daughter Tabitha, says in an interview Friday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“Now that I have [a child], it is life changing,” he says. “I recommend it. Get some!”

Hugh Grant has hinted "bossy' Elizabeth Hurley organised the christening for his daughter - then simply invited him along.

 The Four Weddings and a Funeral star welcomed his first baby following a brief romance with former model Tinglan Hong. 

The actor had his daughter Tabitha baptised in a quiet English village close to the home of his ex-girlfriend Elizabeth over the weekend. Hugh admits one of his former partners is the godmother of his baby and twisted his arm about the christening.

While he didn't name the woman, he joked she was adamant about the event.

British actor Hugh Grant has thrown a Christening ceremony for his baby daughter in a quiet English village close to the home of his ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley.

The Four Weddings and a Funeral star became a first-time father last year (11) when he welcomed a little girl called Tabitha following a "fleeting affair" with former model Tinglan Hong.

Grant has now celebrated the birth with a Christening at St. Mary's Church in the small village of Ampney Crucis, in the English Cotswolds region.

Hugh Grant not into trust funds (STUFF CO. NZ)

He plans to give Tabitha the kind of childhood he had and wants to be a fun father but also strict.

''There's a lot of over-parenting, to my eye, anyway. Well, it would all be total hypocrisy, of course, but things like good manners and not being selfish. It's just unattractive in a child, I don't like it. And discipline – I do think discipline's important.

''I'm very glad that I had quite a strict mother who was big on discipline, because you really cannot get anything done in life if there's too much, 'Oh, well, if you don't feel like it, don't do it, just express yourself,’ I'm not really very big on that. ''Especially as in the entertainment industry in particular, it really is five per cent inspiration and 95 per cent perspiration – and discipline. You cannot get anything done without it,” he told British newspaper The Guardian.

''I have the Tiger Mom. I'll be Lamb Daddy. But also my other worry is about – and as I say, there are few things in life I believe in 100 per cent – but another one is not giving your children money. I see nothing but f**k-ups among my trust-fund friends. It's like 99 per cent f**k-ups. So I would not want to do that to my children, no.”

Hugh is famously private about his personal life and was one of several stars to give evidence at London’s Leveson Inquiry into phone hacking. He has been open about how deplorable he finds such an invasion of privacy and hopes to keep his child out of the limelight. He wasn’t at her birth for that reason but did visit her in hospital.

After that Tinglan was hounded by the press and eventually got an injunction so she could go about her normal life.

HUGH Grant, who will be in Sydney in two weeks, has spoken for the first time about being father.

Grant, who is promoting animated movie The Pirates! Band of Misfits, told The Guardian that he has enjoyed spending time with his daughter, whose English name is Tabitha, but admitted that she has not changed his life.

"Lots of people warned me ... that the baby period is not that exciting," he said. "But I am excited, actually. I thought, well, I'll bluff through - but very little bluffing has been required.

"I like my daughter very much. Fantastic. Has she changed my life? I'm not sure. Not yet. Not massively, no. But I'm absolutely thrilled to have had her, I really am. And I feel a better person."

Grant said that he feels less selfish but denied that he has ever been "entirely me, me, me".

"I've had other family I look after; I have an elderly father who's not very well at the moment," he said. Granted added that he did not cry but felt "a little lumpy" when he first met his daughter. He also admitted to feeling a certain amount of pride in her existence, saying:

"There probably is some truth that one of our main functions on the planet is to reproduce, because it feels like more of an achievement than it should do. Which is nonsense, really. "But yesterday I took my daughter to see my father, who's in hospital, and all the nurses were cooing over her. And I felt, well, pride."
