"Mercifully, I haven't been type-cast and it opened more doors than it closed. I was never bored, but I wanted to make sure I left before it became a job."

So what did the manic and acclaimed tenth Doctor do next? After leaving Doctor Who in 2010 after four years in the high-profile role, there was a brilliant, sell-out Hamlet on the London stage, radio plays, audiobook readings, voice-overs, a surprisingly dud film, an unsuccessful attempt at an American TV series, and the voice of Charles Darwin in the Aardman animation The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists. "I'm ridiculously proud of that. It was a real treat," says David Tennant.

He's chipper, grinning, boyishly enthusiastic as ever, even though he's 41. If he weren't so tall, elegant, slim, and fashionably unshaven, he'd resemble a goblin, with his bright, expressive eyes that sometimes seem a little overwhelming on screen. "Do they?" he asks. "Well, you can only work with what you have."

He takes success and failure in his stride and explains, over a glass of tap water, that his career is a battle for challenges. He's just finished filming the lead in The Spies of Warsaw for BBC4, adapted by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, and is due to film a new ITV1 drama series called Broadchurch.

"I'm always looking for a new project. There's a kind of exhaustive adrenaline push, which is alarming and overwhelming, but very motivating. It's fear of failure: is this the one where they discover I don't deserve to be at the party? I wait for someone to say, 'You've had a good run. Now it's time to go.' I admire other actors' work and then see mine and it seems false and crass. As an actor you put yourself up for appraisal on a regular basis and ask for your insecurities to be tweaked. No wonder I'm a nervous wreck," he laughs.

In fact few actors seem less neurotic. He's famously discreet - married on New Year's Eve to an actress, Georgia Moffett, 27, who he met on Doctor Who in 2008. They have a daughter, Olive, born in March last year, and he's adopted her ten-year-old son Tyson. He's had one or two skirmishes with the press: "I've had a go at them. I'm not suggesting my phone was hacked, although it would make sense of certain moments in my life when I was surprised about how some information became public.

The last time anyone heard about the third film in the "Bridget Jones" franchise, the script was still being reworked to suit lead actors Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant. But fans have been getting antsy about the long-rumored sequel, with some wondering if the next chapter in bumbling Bridget's story will ever be told.

When MTV News caught up with Grant in New York City on Friday, he explained that the British love triangle will return to the big screen ... eventually. However, script problems continue to delay production. "I've seen some scripts," Grant said. "They haven't quite hit the nail yet, but they will. They're working on it."

So good to see Hugh Hugh Grant in town for premiere And he wasted no time unpacking the clubs and playing at one of Sydney's premiere courses after his arrival at the weekend.

Having sampled the open fairways of the NSW Golf Club at La Perouse during a 2009 film tour for Did You Hear About The Morgans? and declaring the course to be "the best", Grant took his game to the posher environs of Rose Bay's Royal Sydney Golf Club.

A spokesman for Royal Sydney refused to reveal how Grant got a tee time. "It wouldn't be appropriate to say," the spokesman said. "It's a private club you see."

Brendan Gleeson talks about working on Aardman's latest film

With three movies out this month, Brendan Gleeson is one of our most in-demand actors. "So, how come I'm sitting here twiddling me thumbs?" he asks Paul Byrne.

Brendan Gleeson is the sort of man that you don't want to upset. Not that the guy is threatening in any way - far from it - but you can't help but imagine that he would be handy in a fight. Or on a rugby team. Or battling giant dragons.

It's more to do with the fact that Brendan Gleeson plainly has little time for fools. And sometimes, in interviews, I find myself being a fool. Letting someone know that their latest film doesn't quite work. Or that their new album put my cat in a coma.

Luckily, Brendan Gleeson also has a devilish sense of humour, a sly chuckle never far from his lips. So, you know, I might just be able to mention that film of his that didn't quite work. Thankfullly, it's not his new one, Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists being the latest from those playful plasticine pranksters Aardman Animation, creators of Wallace & Gromit, Shaun The Sheep, Chicken Run and Morph.

Based on the first of a series of comic novels by Gideon Defoe, this swashbuckling tale sees our highly incompetent pirates setting out to win the coveted Pirate Of The Year award. All seems lost until they happen upon Charles Darwin, who quickly recognizes that the captain's ungainly parrot is in fact the very rare, very prize-worthy dodo. Such a discovery would put Pirate Captain (voiced by Hugh Grant) on the map. And his motley crew off everyone's laughing stock list.

So, Mr. Gleeson, how does one prepare to play Pirate With Gout? "Lots of bad living," quips the 56-year old actor. "Actually, it was a very interesting experience. Wallace & Gromit is one of my all-time favourite creations, so, I didn't need to be asked twice, you know."

 The 'Notting Hill' star voices the lead seafaring character in new animated film 'The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists'.

He walked the red carpet in London on Wednesday night for the premiere, the Daily Star reported. Grant headed inside for the screening and was later snapped sneaking his godson Damian - Hurley's nine-year-old boy - out of the cinema. Hurley, cricketer Shane Warne's fiance, has previously revealed she was always trying to find some work of Grant that her kids could see.

Hugh Grant has revealed that he would gladly reprise his caddish role for Bridget Jones 3. But the 51-year-old actor, who played ladies' man Daniel Cleaver in the previous two films, admitted that it's still a work in progress.

"That film is not really on yet. We are up for it, but they haven't quite cracked the script. But when they do, I'm sure we'll make it," he said. Hugh - who makes his animated debut in upcoming Aardman film The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists - said he enjoyed playing such a cad alongside Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth. "I did like playing Daniel Cleaver in both films, but there is no definite part three," he told Total Film.

"None of the three of us have signed up for it yet. There's been a number of drafts that have had great things in them but haven't quite hit the bullseye. It's just that it does have to be significantly reinvented. "I don't think that you could pretend that it's a year after the end of the last one because we look f*****g ancient now, all three of us," he added.

Hugh teased that Daniel won't be a reformed man, saying: "He won't be, no."

The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists, which also stars David Tennant and Martin Freeman, opens in cinemas on March 28.

Grant, who lends his voice to the part, relished the challenge of his first animated role. "I quite enjoyed it. It was a challenge. I'm not very well suited to the puppet but once I mastered it, I loved it," he added.

Tennant - who voices the young Charles Darwin - agreed to the film immediately. "I got a phone call and they said Aardman Animations are making a film. By the time that sentence had finished I think I'd signed the contract," he said. "If you get a call from Aardman Studios I think you know you're going to be in something quite classy and quite exciting, so of course you're going to say yes.

"They're an international treasure. And everything that they do is brilliant." He added: "It's not something I ever imagined would come my way, but I was very happy that it did."

LONDON (AP) — Hugh Grant is stepping away from his usual romantic fare – to walk the plank.

The British actor is starring in “The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists,” his first animated film role. He plays a pirate captain – called Pirate Captain – on a quest to win the Pirate of the Year Award. 

He joined co-star David Tennant at the premiere of the latest adventure from Aardman Animations, creators of “Wallace and Gromit,” in London on Wednesday. The “Notting Hill” actor admitted he doesn’t see many similarities between himself and his pirate persona. “I looked at it and I thought “well I’m nothing like that, this is terrible casting.”

So I actually had to adapt myself, and I had to do a bit of acting for once,” he joked.
