It feels like it's been quite a long time since we saw Tom Hardy on screen. But in fact, he's been working consistently, with five films in the last eighteen months, and the actor's such a chameleon that it's hard to draw a line between Ricky Tarr in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises," especially as Hardy spent most of 2012 in Africa shooting the Mad Max movie "Fury Road."

But now that the ever-rising star is done with that, he's lining up all kinds of projects, co-starring with Noomi Rapace in both Michael Roskam's "Animal Rescue" and Daniel Espinosa's "Child 44," working with Doug Liman to climb "Everest" and leading video game adaptation "Splinter Cell." But before any of that, Hardy's going to knock out a quick thriller with an intriguing twist, with Screen Daily announcing that Hardy will top-line "Locke," which will shoot later this month in London.

Tom Hardy to play Sam Fisher in 'Splinter Cell' movie (GMA NEWS)

Another popular video game franchise is set for a film adaptation, and one of Hollywood’s toughest male actors is set to star in it!

Popularly known for his recent portrayal of Bane in Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film “The Dark Knight Rises”, English actor Tom Hardy is set to play one of science fiction and gaming’s top action heroes: Sam Fischer, the lead character of Tom Clancy’s highly acclaimed “Splinter Cell” franchise.

Developed into an equally successful series of games by Ubisoft, the Splinter Cell games details the adventure of Fischer, a retired U.S Navy Seal operative who now works as a highly trained black ops agent of the fictional government sub-agency “Third Echelon”. Using his training in covert operations and stealth, Fischer is sent through various missions worldwide to stop terrorist threats and rogue forces bent on world domination.

Silver Pictures has been busy lately filling its slate with niche action dramas starring relative titans of the genre. Their latest deal involves The Outsider, a post-WWII thriller that was set up at Warner Bros. until the studio let its option expire. Now Silver is eyeing it as a possible vehicle for Tom Hardy.

Variety breaks the story, saying the lead role in The Outsider would be an American expatriate who stays in Japan in the years following the war, only to become a Yakuza enforcer. There’s a girl – there’s always a girl. And when our hero falls in love with her, it’s viewed as a betrayal against his criminal family.

The trade says that Hardy once was very interested in the part, but his schedule’s about as full as possible with shoots for George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road and the recent signing to Splinter Cell, based on the video games series inspired by Tom Clancy’s novels. Scheduling isn’t only a problem for Hardy. Safe House director Daniel Espinosa also was approached for Outsider when it was at Warner, and reportedly might still be interested in his calendar clears.
