Will Cumberbatch and Freeman make an appearance?

The wait for Sherlock series 4 has just been made a bit easier thanks to the unveiling of a brand new Sherlock convention.

The event, dubbed 'Sherlocked', is set to take place across three days in both Europe and America.

It has not been confirmed yet whether show stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will attend, but the site does promise guest appearances.

The announcement reads: "Bringing the hugely successful BBC television show Sherlock to life, SHERLOCKED will be a 3 day event brought to you by Massive Events, in association with Hartswood Films and Showmasters Ltd.

"It will feature an array of Sherlock themed activities, star guests from cast & crew, talks, photoshoots, autograph opportunities and more!"

‘Sherlock’ series 3: 10 moments you missed because you don’t read the books

Sherlock week continues as we show you 10 moments of series 3 that you missed out on if you don’t read the Sherlock Holmes novels.

Back in December, we brought you 10 Sherlock references you missed because you don’t read the books, sharing the answers to references like Vatican Cameos and Mycroft’s diet. Since then, the world has been treated to the emotional rollercoaster of series 3 – and plenty more cheeky nods to canon that non-book readers probably didn’t understand.

Well, we here at Hypable think you should be reading the books. To show you what you’re missing out on, we’ve compiled a list of 10 nods to canon from the show’s third series. If you haven’t read Arthur Conan Doyle’s original stories, this will hopefully explain a few of those references that have always puzzled you, and encourage you to run to the library and grab the source material to help pass the excruciating wait for series 4.

"I have not introduced you yet,’ said Holmes. ‘This, gentlemen, is Colonel Sebastian Moran, once of Her Majesty’s Indian Army, and the best heavy game shot that our Eastern Empire has ever produced. I believe I am correct, Colonel, in saying that your bag of tigers still remains unrivalled?’”

- Arthur Conan Doyle, “The Empty House”

With Moriarty seemingly dead at the end of “The Reichenbach Fall,” fans were fervently speculating about who the big new bad would be. When we found out that the series 3 opener would be called “The Empty Hearse,” many were sure we would be seeing Colonel Sebastian Moran – Moriarty’s right-hand man and notorious big game hunter.

However, when it was announced we’d instead get Charles Augustus Magnussen as the great detective’s latest adversary, we thought the Moran dream was over. And in a sense it was – as “The Empty Hearse” focused instead on an underground terrorism plot not entirely unlike V for Vendetta. But writer Mark Gatiss still left in a nod to the episode’s namesake story. The corrupt politician behind the deadly scheme is known as Lord Moran.

It would be nice if we could see the book version of the character, as his aggressive skill with a gun and ruthless quest for revenge would be an exciting dynamic to put Sherlock in – all the brains and deductive skills in the world can’t save you from a speeding bullet.

“Unfortunately, no. I confess that I am surprised and disappointed. I expected something definite by this time. Wiggins has just been up to report. He says that no trace can be found of the launch. It is a provoking check, for every hour is of importance.”

- Arthur Conan Doyle, “The Sign of Four”

In our last list, we told you how the homeless network were a contemporary take on the Baker Street Irregulars (Sherlock’s band of orphan children who would assist him on cases). We thought that was as far as the references would go, until Billy Wiggins jumped into the back of Mary’s car and made a few deductions of his own.

In the original stories, Wiggins is the ringleader of the Baker Street Irregulars and Sherlock’s first point of contact with his underground information network. He may have been found in a drug den, but the grown up street urchin can certainly hold his own when it comes to the powers of deduction.

It’s just a shame that his exit was a bit abrupt, as we’d certainly like to have seen more of the character. Hopefully, he’ll be back in series 4 to lead the homeless network in the true spirit of the novels.

Benedict Cumberbatch: Sherlock Season 3 Episode 1 Premiere Air Date January 1 2014? Spoilers News Hints How Sherlock Survived

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch gives a thumbs up at a promotional event in Tokyo July 16, 2013.

However, even though the new date got tongues wagging again, there is nothing that substantial to suggest that the date is accurate.

Sherlock executive producer, Sue Vertue, who is also the wife of Sherlock creator and executive producer, Steven Moffat, has come out to throw doubt over the new rumors.

Vertue has taken to social media networking site Twitter to post: "Not sure where #Sherlock latest rumoured tx date of 01/14 has come from. Not from me as tx date is not yet confirmed."

Although Vertue's comment seemed to debunk the rumors of a Jan. 1 premiere date, a careful look at exactly what she said reveals that she did not specifically exclude that date. She simply stated that she had no idea where that date had begun circulating from, and confirmed that the precise premiere date had not yet been officially finalized.

The newest premiere rumors were in fact started when blogger "Blogtor Who," who writes about TV shows including "Doctor Who," "Torchwood" and "The Sarah Jane Adventures," tweeted the date, according to Dan of Geek.

On Aug. 21, he tweeted: "Sherlock Series 3 Ep 1 is set in November and will air on Jan 1, 2014."

The blogger also refused to back down after Vertue's comments, pointing out that she had not specifically stated that the Jan. 1 date was wrong.

"She didn't actually deny the date. *coughs* read her tweet!" he tweeted at a fan who brought up Vertue's post.

He later also messaged another fan: "*coughs* Note: she did *not* deny the date."

Benedict Cumberbatch: Who Is Getting Married In Sherlock? (E.) BY CLAIRE RUTTER ON APRIL 22, 2013

In a bid to distract us from wondering how Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock Holmes will return from the dead, a producer from the hit BBC show has hinted that wedding bells could be heard in the new series.

Actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have been recording scenes for the upcoming series, and now producer Sue Vertue has given one of the biggest hints about the show so far.

Tweeting a photo of what looks like a place setting for Sherlock Holmes, Vertue wrote: "Lovely day for a wedding #sherlock."

The new picture adds fuel to the speculation that there will be a wedding, but who will be tying the knot?

Sherlock creators Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatiss have previously given a three-word teaser for the new series – “wedding”, “rat”, and “bow”.

While some were hoping that this would be clues on how to solve the mystery of Sherlock’s ‘resurrection’, it looks as though they could be about a totally different part of the series.

Tonight's National Television Awards will put Stephen Moffat creations Doctor Who and Sherlock head to head for the public vote. Both programmes are nominated for the drama and male drama performance categories, putting Benedict Cumberbatch and Matt Smith in competition.

Doctor Who did well at last year's awards, with Matt Smtih and co-star Karen Gillan picking up awards for most popular performance, male and female respectively. Despite leaving the show in September, Gillan is nominated again for female perfomance.
