Fans have had to wait a great deal between seasons to watch "Sherlock" which first aired in 2011. The first season only consisted of three movie-length episodes, as did the second.
The third season is all set to air in late October, early November 2013, as per IMDB. Benedict Cumberbatch was quoted as saying, "Hopefully we're going to broadcast it simultaneously here and in the States by the end of the year, I'm hoping. That is a hope that we talked about a while ago" as per BBC America.
If the show is broadcast at the same time in the UK and the US, that would be ideal because, given how popular the series has become, many people in the US have already watched it (it's readily available on Netflix). So it makes no sense to have to wait another two years.
The first episode of Season 3 is titled "The Empty Hearse" and is based on Conan Doyle's "The Adventure of the Empty House."
This story by Doyle was also the one where he resurrected Holmes. So it makes sense that it should be the next one in the "Sherlock" series since Sherlock was killed off at the end of the second season and will now be resurrected.

It would be nice not to wait, but the real issue is: WILL WE SEE THE FULL 90-MINUTE EPISODES? That's what we need to fight for, right now, IMO. Having Masterpiece cut out one-third of what is essentially a movie to fit their parameters is intolerable, especially with the quality of this work.
