Tom Hiddleston: ‘The Night Manager’ Ratings Score Best Ever Debut Live + 3 Rises For AMC
DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD
by Dominic Patten
April 25, 2016 1:03pm
AMC definitely chose a gilded sword to pierce into Tuesday nights and The Night Manager looks to have done been up to the job. In Live + 3 results, the April 19 debut of the Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston starring co-production with the BBC delivered the cabler a total viewership of 1.6 million with 455,000 among adults 18-49 and 554,000 among the 25-54 demo.
In what is the biggest jump an AMC show debut has ever had, that’s a surge of 70% in total viewership over the Live + Same Day audience that the first episode of the Susanne Bier directed 6-part TNM snagged. Looking at the two demos, which also are record breaking jumps percentage-wise, TNM was up 72% over L+SD in the 18-49s and 73% in the 25-54s.

Hugh Laurie Addicted to Twitter
FEMALE FIRST
by Daniel Falconer | 30 October 2013
Hugh Laurie is now a regular Twitter user after saying he wasn't a fan and did not "understand" the social networking site.
The former 'House' star appeared on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' alongside Celine Dion on Tuesday (29.10.13) and the chat show host found out he had joined the micro-blogging site.
Afterwards, Jimmy tweeted: "Hugh Laurie is officially on twitter. But you'd never guess his name - it's @Jlumbrozo. Seriously. It is. Welcome Hugh. (sic)"
The actor and musician, who has released his critically-acclaimed debut, Let Them Talk, posted: "Having damned this technology as the seed of Satan, I finally succumb. Let tyrants tremble. And so forth."
The 54-year-old actor previously said he "does not understand" the social networking phenomenon, despite pal Stephen Fry being an avid user.
But although he didn't participate much until now, he said his friend's comments were "the absolute best - the cream of the crop".

Tickets for the show, which range in price from $45 to $79, are now on sale through Ticketmaster.
Didn’t It Rain, Laurie’s second studio album and follow-up to 2011′s Let Them Talk, was released in the United States earlier this month after a May release for Europe. Laurie once again plays piano and guitar and provides vocals, with the Copper Bottom Band playing additional instruments. In an effort to give broadcast television and their new relaxed standards the basic cable business, Stephen Colbert invited “Award-winning British person and recovering network star” Sir Hugh Laurie on set to read from a list of Viacom-approved terms he can say on his show and broadcast television cannot.
Take that Mark Harmon. You never get to talk about fingers in butts. Borderline NSFW audio depending on how your work feels about two sophisticated gentlemen reciting multiple variations of jobs and sacks for the world’s enjoyment.

Hugh Laurie wants to reunite with Stephen Fry Source: Bang Showbiz (LIST)

Hugh Laurie says he and Stephen Fry "often" talk about reuniting and while they are unlikely to do another sketch show, he wants them to team up for a revue show.
Hugh Laurie is keen to reunite with Stephen Fry for a stage show.
The 'House' actor - who worked with his comedy partner on four seasons of 'A Bit of Fry and Laurie' - has revealed the pair "often" talk about teaming up again, but insists they will not be making another sketch show.
He said: "I think probably sketching is a young man's game because, by and large, it's about mocking people much older than you. We are not only the age of cabinet ministers, we are probably older than half the cabinet."
The 54-year-old star said he struck up a pretty "instantaneous" friendship with Stephen when the pair met at Cambridge University, and they are keen to work with each other on a stage revue show similar to those of popular 1950s and 1960s comedy duo Michael Flanders and Donald Swann.

Five reasons why Hugh Laurie would be the perfect Doctor Who By Damian Thompson (TELEGRAPH)

Now that Matt Smith has announced his retirement as Doctor Who, it's high time that Hugh Laurie assumed the role he was born to play. Here's why:
1. He's already played the most alarmingly eccentric doctor in TV history.
2. He's the right age. The Doctors have been getting younger faster than policemen; I want one who's older than me, dammit.
3. He could borrow some of House's more interesting attributes – eg, the addiction to Vicodin, which would make for more amusing storylines than Tom Baker's jelly babies.

Hugh Laurie and crew are no mere 'House’ band Article by: NEAL JUSTIN , Star Tribune Updated: August 19, 2012 - 4:51 PM
Hugh Laurie opened his set at the Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis Saturday night with a warning.
"Until recently, I was an actor," said Laurie, best known for playing the title role of "House" for eight seasons. "I suppose if a pilot got on the intercom and said that, until two weeks ago, he had been a dental hygienist, how many of us would stay on the plane?"
The audience soon discovered there was no reason to panic. In fact, Laurie and his backup group, the Copper Bottom Band, soared for two hours, taking listeners on a tour of New Orleans music graced with humor, enthusiasm and genuine chops.
The stage, populated with battered lamps, a coat rack and a stuffed bird, was as cozy and intimate as the tunes.
Laurie, dressed in a long black coat and frilly shirt, could have placated fans with a few contemporary numbers and references to his Fox drama. Instead, he led a pure love affair to early 20th-century jazz through classic numbers like "St. James Infirmary Blues," "Let the Good Times Roll" and "Swanee River."
Laurie's vocals changed to reflect each piece, channeling Ray Charles one moment and Jimmie Rodgers the next. He may not be a great singer, but he's a masterful impressionist.
Every persona was supported by a crackerjack team of musicians, most notably the very versatile guitarist Kevin Breit and horn player Vincent Henry, who each handled three or four instruments throughout the evening. Vocalist Jean McClain was underutilized, but she made the most of her spotlight moment, plowing through a soul-stirring version of "John Henry."

Leighton Meester & Hugh Laurie Hook Up In The Oranges! (PEREZ HILTON)
OoOoh! What is this!?!
Looks like a dry, clever film starring Hugh Laurie and the incomparable Leighton Meester, that's what!
As you can see from the trailer (below), Hugh and Leighton play lovers… but there's one small catch. She's only 24 and he's obviously an older friend of the family.

Hugh Laurie: House actor to play Vienna concert (VIENNA TIMES)
'House' actor Hugh Laurie will perform a sold out show at Vienna’s Konzerthaus on 22 July.
Laurie who has won two golden globes for his 'House' TV series has recorded an album called 'Let them Talk' which contains "the greatest New-Orleans blues songs of the last 100 years", as his record label puts it.
Laurie said: "I love that music, I've been as authentic as I can be, and I want you to love it too." He added that he never could stand it that blues had been locked away in a cupboard with the label "for elderly black men only".

What is the next step for Dr House? Exlusive interview with Hugh Laurie Tags: Commentary, Hugh Laurie, World, Russia, Society, Interview, European Football Championship 2012 Yulia Monakhova Jun 20, 2012 22:59 Moscow Time (VOICE OF RUSSIA)
For the first time in his life Hugh Laurie came to Ukraine. The visit of the world famous British actor, also known as Dr. House, visited this country in the middle of Euro-2012. The Voice of Russia discussed with Laurie his life after the TV-show, his music and football, of course.
In the light of Euro 2012 would you call yourself an active football supporter?
I love football very much. I cannot play 90 minutes; I cannot even do 9 minutes. But I love it very much and I watched the game last night. I must say that England was a little bit lucky, but Ukraine played terrifically well. It was very exciting stuff. There is almost nothing better than a big sporting championship like this. It makes me happy like nothing else except may be music. But it is close between football and music.
What would happen if Dr House had a football ball instead of a small ball?
It could do, although not for Americans, as they don’t understand this game at all. It is getting a little bit more popular in US, but very slowly. They are more about basketball and American football. But one day they will understand.
I feel in my heart that I have been a musician longer than anything else. When I was young boy music had been my passion. It was always what I wanted to do and who I wanted to be. I never gave it enough time; I should have been doing more scales. Music is closer to the “real” me than any acting I have done. It is much closer to my heart.
You received musical education when you were six years old, is that correct?
Yes, but for a very short time. One month, that was all. And I hated it.
What made you start again?
I started listening to records. I think the first blues record I heard was a Willy Dixson song, that I heard on the radio. It was like an electric shock and I was glued to the radio. I started buying records and like every young boy I wanted to be a guitarist. But slowly I started listening more to the piano players. I used to listen to Muddy Waters whom I love. I love his guitar playing and his singing, but I found myself listing to his piano player Otis Spann on his records. Back then it was very difficult, but I tried to do the same on the piano. Nowadays with Itunes and Youtube it is much easier to work out what is going on. Listening to records brought me back to music.
Why did it take you so long to start your professional career in music?
Cowardness. I suppose I was thinking: “I am not ready. I need to practice more, I need to work more and commit more”. And I kept putting it off for later. But then I turned 50, now I am 53, and you reach a point in your life when you think: “I cannot wait, I have to do this now”. I don’t want to be an old man saying that I could have done that. This is something I have to do now, but I probably should have done it before. I am just a coward for not doing it before.
What blues means to you?
I have loved this music since I was very young. Since then I was the only one who listen to this music, everyone else was buying pop music. I never bought it. And I could never understand why other people could not hear what was so beautiful in music. I always tried to get people to listen to Muddy Waters, and Willy Dixon, and Howlin Wolf. And I still have that passion for getting people to hear this music and hear how beautiful it is. I love the idea that some people will hear this and say: “Wow, I never heard any Lead Belly songs, or J.B. Lenoir, or The Mississippi Sheiks, so I am going to go and buy those records now.” I feel like it is a great honor if I manage to do that even for just one person.

For those who thought Hugh Laurie was mean as the title doctor on "House, M.D.," wait until the "RoboCop" reboot hits theaters next year.
The 53-year-old British actor — best known on this side of the pond for playing Dr. Gregory House for eight seasons — is in negotiations to join a cast that already includes "The Killing's" Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Laurie would play the movie's villain, the wealthy CEO of Omnicorp, the company behind the construction of RoboCop — and the robot that would replace him.

They spent years apart while he filmed his long running TV series House in the US so it’s no surprise British actor Hugh Laurie and wife Jo Green are making up for lost time now it has finished.
The unlikely heartthrob, who won a legion of fans with his portrayal of bad-tempered medic Gregory House on the TV show which ended in May, is in Buenos Aires as part of his world tour with band Copperbottom.
However, Jo was happy to come visit him at work and the couple took some time out to enjoy a romantic lunch in the city.

Hugh Laurie Gives Benaroya the New Orleans Blues by Michael van Baker on June 7, 2012 (THE SUN BREAK)
From the moment he strolled out onstage–no cane, unlike his House, M.D., character–Hugh Laurie had the Benaroya Hall audience firmly on his side, so it wasn’t really necessary, in a burst of Englishness, for him to soft-shoe over having the temerity to come before us to play music out of New Orleans’s history. (In another burst of Englishness, Laurie made this the first New Orleans blues concert I’d attended with a toast to the Queen in advance of her Diamond Jubilee.)
Laurie plays piano and guitar, but, he instructed the audience, the real musical thrills were going to come from the other musicians onstage: the Copper Bottom Band. They were the gleaming Rolls Royce and its throaty purr, he said, he was merely the hood ornament–throwing his arms back in the classic Spirit of Ecstasy pose.
If you missed the evening, Laurie’s New Orleans songbook can be found on CD; Let Them Talk contains many of the songs performed. I have to confess to rating his piano playing higher than his guitar, and both higher than his singing. It’s not that he has a terrible voice, but it isn’t suited to every one of these songs he clearly loves, and which often have been sung by the best.

Hugh Laurie in the House! Female fans go wild as the actor kicks off tour with band after wrapping hit show By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Hundreds of middle-aged women raced to a sleepy beach town in California last week to see House star Hugh Laurie open the tour of his blues band.
The crowd of Laurie fanatics queued for up to four hours to be the first into a small venue in Solana Beach, just outside of San Diego.
Screaming and cheering throughout his 90 minutes performance, they couldn't get enough of the 52-year-old.
Laurie and his band Copperbottom kicked off the U.S leg of their world tour on Tuesday - and tickets had been completely sold out for the opening night since November.
The crowd – mostly women over 40 – went wild when Laurie took to the stage just after 8pm, and cheered and laughed uproariously whenever he cracked a joke in his 'sexy' dry English accent.
Laurie performed his album Let Them Talk – a collection of blues covers – and looked dapper, and a bit shy, in a shabby grey suit and mustard coloured shirt.

"House" bows out with a funeral and plenty of twists By Jill Serjeant LOS ANGELES | Tue May 22, 2012 12:06am EDT (REUTERS)

(Reuters) - Medical drama "House" bowed out on Monday after eight years on television with a funeral, a friendship and multiple devious plot twists.
As the curtain fell on one of the most popular TV series in the world, the misanthropic but brilliant diagnostician Dr. Gregory House, played by Hugh Laurie, solved the most perplexing puzzle of them all - himself.
The series finale, called "Everybody Dies", began with a suicidal House trapped in a burning building, confronting his own demons and hallucinating.
Returning characters, including the dead Lawrence Kutner (Kal Penn) and "frenemy" Amber Volakis (Anne Dudek), ex- girlfriend Stacy Warner (Sela Ward) and Allison Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) appeared as figments of House's imagination in an episode packed with flashbacks.
Only Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein), who played House's on- and-off love interest, failed to make an appearance after leaving the TV drama a year ago.
The show's final weeks had left audiences wondering if the series would end with the death from cancer of House's only friend, oncologist Dr. James Wilson, or that of House himself - or both.
But in the bittersweet ending promised by creator David Shore, both men survived - at least for a while - with their long bromance stronger than ever.
As House finally opted for life and staggered to leave the fiery building, it exploded in flames. But as his colleagues gathered to praise and scold him in an emotional funeral, House had one last trick left up his sleeve.

Cannes 2012: How British actors are dominating Hollywood like never before The success of actors like Robert Pattinson and Tom Hardy show that Brits are no longer just in demand as toffs and villains, reports Anita Singh (THE TELEGRAPH)
In the 20 years since Colin Welland collected an Oscar for Chariots of Fire and famously declared: "The British are coming!" there have been plenty of false dawns.
British actors flocked to Hollywood only to find themselves cast repeatedly as villains, fops and toffs. But this year's Cannes Film Festival proves that US studios have finally fallen for the charms of the British leading man.
The three major US films in competition all have British actors playing American leads.
Tom Hardy is the star of Lawless, a Prohibition-era gangster film in which he plays the toughest of three bootlegging brothers in rural Virginia.
Robert Pattinson, he of the teen Twilight franchise, plays the lead in another literary adaptation, Don DeLillo's Cosmopolis, as a billionaire Manhattanite.
And the long-awaited adaptation of Jack Kerouac's On The Road, that most quintessential of American novels, stars Yorkshire's Sam Riley as Sal Paradise.
It is a state of affairs mirrored in US television, where British actors are slipping seamlessly into US lead roles, from Hugh Laurie in House to Damian Lewis and David Harewood in Homeland.
Industry watchers say we have entered a golden age for Brits in Hollywood.
"It's what I call 'Hugh Laurie Syndrome," said Tim Gray, editor of trade bible Variety.
"When Laurie appeared in House, Americans said, 'Who is this actor? I love him, he's great'. Then we found out he's British, and it's like a magician has pulled a trick on you. People like to be fooled sometimes.
