According to Variety, international sales are going on for Richard Levine’s Blue Angel adapted from Francine Prose’s wicked novel of the same name, which stars Clive Owen in the leading role. Owen’s career has been steady, with the action Killer Elite and the creepy Spanish horror Intruders as two of his more recent efforts. He’ll soon be seen in the brotherly Brooklyn crime drama Blood Ties. None of that sounds anything like what his Blue Angel character is in for.

Owen will play Swenson, a New England college’s creative writing professor brought down by jadedness and dead-end students. Then someone with writing skill joins his class, and she happens to be attractive, tattooed, and everything Swenson needs in his life. And then they develop a completely platonic relationship and go about their separate lives. Or maybe something a little more controversial actually happens.

Clive Owen's Love Affair With Madrid Began On Film Set (CONTACT MUSIC)

Movie star Clive Owen fell in love with Madrid's food and wine culture while he was shooting his new movie Intruders in the Spanish capital.

The British actor admits he now returns to the city whenever he can, just to satisfy his new-found appreciation of the best things in life. Owen tells BlogTalkRadio.com, "The food was fantastic. That was the biggest culture shock. I've been back to Madrid maybe eight times since finishing this film, and I have to be honest; it's primarily to eat!

"The food in that town is so good and the whole crew, they really knew how to live... All they wanted to talk about was food and wine all day - 'Where did you eat last night? What did you eat? What wine did you have with it?' They were all complete foodies, and I'm a bit of a foodie, so I loved working with a Spanish crew.

Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has never quite delivered on the promise of his clever debut feature Intacto. Retro chiller Intruders is cleverly constructed and suspenseful but fades when pitted against superior genre fare like The Orphanage and Pan’s Labyrinth or the 1970s chillers like The Omen which it consciously echoes.

In Spain, a young boy finds his worst nightmares bursting into the real world as a hooded demon called HollowFace emerges looking like a Death Eater from Harry Potter. The story continues in leafy suburban England where 12-year-old Mia (Ella Purnell) believes that a faceless intruder is coming to steal her features. Her father John (Clive Owen) fights the demons on her behalf while her mother Susanna (Carice Van Houten) wonders if the whole thing is a figment of their joint imaginations.

Fresnadillo favours creepy, slow-building suspense over graphic gore but seems to lose sight of some promising plot elements – including the character of Daniel Bruhl’ s kindly priest – that are never given their full weight. Spanish screenwriters Nicolas Casariego and Jaime Marques do eventually spell out what connects the two children ensuring a satisfying conclusion to an otherwise derivative, moderately engaging scary movie.

Release Date Set for Clive Owen-Starrer INTRUDERS (Film Filia)

Despite Universal Pictures having co-financed the project and Clive Owen was set to star, a psychological horror hybrid Intruders stayed mainly Spanish/English co-production. That’s the reason why the film hit European theaters before it hits US cinemas.

Why not wait to be saved? What’s the rush? Thanks to Millenium Films the film will finally open in limited theatrical release March 30th, 2012.

Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) and written by the Spanish duo Nicolás Casariego and Jaime Marques the film also appears Kerry Fox, Carice van Houten (Black Death) and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) in the leads.

Intruders tells the parallel story of a young boy and girl in different time periods who are haunted by the same supernatural spirit: in Spain, a mother protects her son from a faceless stranger, while in the UK, a young girl has terrifying dreams of Hollowface, a demon.

Fresnadillo revealed that the film reflects his love of the darkest visual universe, of the demons buried in our unconscious.

On the other hand, Intruders is an intense psychological drama taking the family as its central theme.
This horror/thriller opened the 59th San Sebastian International Film Festival on September 16th.

Clive Owen was the man in the middle last night when he celebrated the launch of Vertu's Constellation smartphone at Milan's Palazzo Serbelloni with Uma Thurman, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Tilda Swinton, and Michelle Yeoh. Earlier in the day, Clive accompanied a guy pal for a bit of shopping. By the evening, Clive was in his dapper suit to mingle with other friends of the luxury communication company. It's certainly an exclusive brand — the gold version of the Constellation handset retails for $27,000, and the base model starts at $8,400! They've also collaborated in the past with Ferrari on a $25,400 phone. Clive might not have to buy his own model, but things are going well for him professionally. Millennium just picked up Intruders, Clive's thriller from Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, for distribution in the US with a planned release date in April.

"Intruders," starring Clive Owen as a father whose home and daughter come under attack from a mysterious demon, has finally found a home of its own.

The film, directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo of "28 Weeks Later" fame, has been picked up by Millennium, and will be released April 2012. Here's the synopsis from the press release:

Intruders is a disturbing film in which reality and imagination mingle and overlap. Juan (Izan Corchero) and Mia (Ella Purnell), two children living in different countries, are visited each night by a faceless intruder, a terrifying being who wants to take possession of them.

We shudder to think what's going on in Clive Owen's personal life that for the second year in a row he's starring in a film in which he plays a father trying desperately to protect his teenage daughter. Last year it was "Trust," where his kid was stalked by a online pervert, and now this... Let's hope Clive gets it worked out.

We loved Fresnadillo's "28 Weeks Later," but watching this we can't help but be reminded of "Dream House," the Daniel Craig/Rachel Weisz thriller that recently tanked. This is probably unfair to "Intruders," but hey, life ain't always fair.
