TOM HARDY STARRING IN NEW FX SERIES, TABOO

FX has ordered Taboo, a drama series from award-winning producer Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator), Academy Award-nominated writer Steven Knight (Locke) and award-winning actor/producer Tom Hardy - who will also star.

Scott Free Films and Hardy Son & Baker will commence production on the eight-episode first season mid-to-late 2015 in the U.K., with the series tentatively slated to debut in mid-2016. The series is being produced for BBC One in the U.K., with Sonar Entertainment distributing internationally.

Set in 1813, Taboo is based on an original story by Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy. In Taboo, Hardy plays the lead role of “James Keziah Delaney,” a rogue adventurer who returns from Africa with 14 ill-gotten diamonds to seek vengeance after the death of his father. Refusing to sell the family business to the East India Company, he sets out to build his own trade and shipping empire and finds himself playing a very dangerous game.

Taboo was created by Knight (Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises, Peaky Blinders), who most recently wrote and directed the feature film Locke starring Hardy. Scott and Hardy will both serve as executive producers on Taboo.

A New York Winter’s Tale synopsis

Set in a mythic New York City and spanning more than a century, “A New York Winter’s Tale” is a story of miracles, crossed destinies, and the age-old battle between good and evil. The film stars Colin Farrell (“Total Recall”), Jessica Brown Findlay (TV’s “Downton Abbey”), and Oscar® winners Jennifer Connelly (“A Beautiful Mind”), William Hurt (“Kiss of the Spider Woman”), Eva Marie Saint (“On the Waterfront”) and Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”). “Winter’s Tale” also introduces young newcomers Ripley Sobo and Mckayla Twiggs (both from Broadway’s “Once”).

The film marks the directorial debut of Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind”), who also wrote the screenplay, based on the acclaimed novel by Mark Helprin. Goldsman is also producing the film with Marc Platt (“Drive”), Michael Tadross (“Sherlock Holmes”) and Tony Allard (Showtime’s “The Baby Dance”). The executive producers are Kerry Foster and Bruce Berman.

The behind-the-scenes creative team includes five-time Oscar®-nominated director of photography Caleb Deschanel (“The Passion of the Christ,” “The Patriot”), production designer Naomi Shohan (“Constantine,” “I Am Legend”), costume designer Michael Kaplan (“Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “Star Trek”) and editors Wayne Wahrman (“I Am Legend”) and Oscar® nominee Tim Squyres (“Life of Pi,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”). The music is composed by Oscar® winner Hans Zimmer (“The Lion King,” “Inception,” “Man of Steel”).

Russell Crowe predicts Henry Cavill will have a super year after 'Man of Steel' is released.

The actor - who plays Superman's biological father, Jor-El, in the Zack Snyder reboot - believes leading man Henry will become one of the biggest stars on the planet once people see how great he is as the DC Comics character. He wrote on Twitter: ''Just contemplating how massive the change in life young Henry Cavill is about to deal with. @ManofSteelMovie is excellent. (sic)''

The 'Les Miserables' star is excited at the prospect of the film hitting cinemas worldwide before the US and its potential to reach so many superhero fans.

Russell added: ''So Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Phillipines, Korea, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Puerto Rico get @ManofSteelMovie b4 USA gets it June 14th (sic)

Exercise-mad Russell has been preparing for the film's global press tour and is frustrated he hasn't been pushing his gruelling daily fitness plan to the max.

Henry Cavill's real life tale from school boy to leading actor as Superman in Man Of Steel, is a story that even Hollywood couldn't create.

The British star will soon be seen in cinemas alongside his on-screen father Russell Crowe, who plays Jor-El, after previously missing out on roles as Edward Cullen in Twilight and the coveted part of James Bond.

Although the pair have spent several months together filming the summer blockbuster, Henry, 29, revealed he met Crowe, 49, back when he was in still in high school.

It is partly down to Crowe that Henry then went on to become an actor after the Gladiator star gave him some advice.

Cavill was a 16-year-old pupil at the Stowe School in Buckinghamshire, and had been cast as an extra while Russell filmed a goodbye scene to his on-screen son in Proof Of Life.

During a glossy photoshoot he recalls the tale to GQ Magazine: 'I thought we kind of look ridiculous, standing there, looking over at this famous actor.

'And I want to be an actor. So I thought I may as well go over and ask this guy about it.'

He continued: 'Hi, my name's Henry. I want to be an actor. What’s it like?'

Rather than being stand offish Crowe was happy to impart some words of wisdom and told young Cavill 'But if you want to go for it, then really go for it. Commit.'

Despite having a reputation for being an unreasonable hard man, Crowe showed his caring side, after he left the football field.

Two days later, Cavill received a package in the post which contained some Jersey sweets (Cavill mentioned where he’d grown up), a jar of Vegemite, a CD of Crowe's band 30 Odd Foot Of Grunts and a picture of Crowe in Gladiator, with a signed message.

The message read: 'Dear Henry, a journey of 1,000 miles begins in a single step. Russell.'

Man of Steel will let us experience "what it must be like to be Superman", Russell Crowe has said.

The Les Misérables star, who will play the superhero's father Jor-El in Warner Bros' film, is keen to see how audiences respond to the upcoming adaptation.

"It's really complicated, it's really complex," he told Reelz.

"I don't think anyone's really tried to get into the psychology of what it must be like to be Superman and what people would really respond like in a modern society if someone like that popped up.

"Zack Snyder who directed Watchmen, who directed 300 and a few other things, he was given a great deal of responsibility. Because when it comes to comic book heroes and superhero films, at the top of the food chain is Superman.

Russell Crowe is rumoured to be in the frame to play Rupert Murdoch.

The Gladiator star, 48, is thought to be in line to star as the Australian media mogul in the screen adaptation of former Sunday Times editor Sir Harold Evans' memoirs, Good Times, Bad Times, the Evening Standard reports.

Meanwhile, Oscar-winner Colin Firth is said to be tipped for a part as Sir Harold.
Leon Lecash, creative director of filmmakers What's It All About? told the newspaper: "The film will be a drama, when Citizen Kane meets All The President's Men, either for the big screen or television.

Inspired by Indian epics; Meerut turns into armoury of Hollywood's period dramas

MEERUT: Meerut, the ancient town where the Indian Mutiny of 1857 started, is now the armoury of Hollywood period dramas.

The weapons and armour of Russell Crowe in Gladiator and Gerard Butler in 300 came from here, making a growing number of Hollywood producers source ancient arms, ammunition, attire, furniture, books, leather goods and household items from this north India town, 70 km from New Delhi.

Leading the charge is Deepeeka Exports, whose most recent order was for television series Spartacus: Blood And Sand. "We cater to the international market only," said its director Gagan Agarwal. "Our products have been featured in many films."

The company, which employs some 150 craftsmen, earns around Rs20 crore a year. Al Hamdd Trading Post and Swarna International are among the other medieval arms vendors in Meerut, which is better known for its sports equipment, textiles and jewellery.

Alice Baker, costume supervisor of Spartacus series, says Deepeeka provides high-quality products at much cheaper rates than American and European firms.

"Qualitatively, the stuff (from Deepeeka) is very good and much cheaper than what we get from America," she said. Deepeeka got its biggest breakthrough when it bagged the warcraft order for Gladiator from US-based Gist International.
