True Detective Season 2 Cast Rumors: Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn to Star HBO's Hit Show

THE CHRISTIAN TIMES
Raianne Fe Aguhar
05 OCTOBER, 2014

The Sunday World has confirmed that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn are to star the hugely anticipated show, True Detective Season 2.

38-year old Farrell, who has signed up for the series, said in an interview, "I'm doing the second series. I'm so excited."

"I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot. I know very little about it, but we're shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids", he added.

The description for Farrell's character (Ray Velcoro) reads, "a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him."

The continuous name dropping has become an Internet circus. The latest rumor is that Elisabeth Moss will be joining the cast as well. This has not been confirmed, but it has sparked excitement among fans — yet again.

Big names being linked to the upcoming show include Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin and Christian Bale. However, none of these stars have been confirmed by HBO. In fact, the network has kept mum on the cast rumors.

Until HBO releases an official list of the main cast for True Detective Season 2, it looks like fans will have to play "guessing game" a little longer.

Colin Farrell and the sick baby at Our Lady's Hospital in Ireland (original story)

Here is the original story of Colin Farrell's hospital visit from the Facebook of Ireland and Peg's Cottage.  Love the poem she has put to this picture....

Ireland and Peg's Cottage~~
By popular demand, I'm re-posting this story and this lovely poem. The photo of Colin Farrell was taken on a mobile phone by the parent of this sick baby in Our Lady's Hospital in Ireland on Christmas Day the year before last. He had arrived unannounced (not even his publicist knew of his plans) with hundreds of gifts just to spend some time with the sick children. No TV ... no media ...

Colin’s son, James Padraig, has Angelman Syndrome (AS), the little-known, severely debilitating neuro-genetic condition.

As a younger man, Colin long held the reputation of a hell-raiser with a love of booze and wild sex. He opened his heart recently in an interview about life with his eight-year-old son Jimmy, as he affectionately calls him, and how the happy-go-lucky child … who like most other AS sufferers has speech and movement impairments … has greatly improved the quality of his life.

"Jimmy has lifted me in that sometimes tremulous hand of his," he said. "He has come into my life and gifted me the opportunity to look outside myself and to watch his every difficulty and to watch his insurmountable spirit just forge ahead in life. I ain't saying I'm a great man or nothing, but I'm getting to be about as good a fellow as I'm going to be.”

Whenever I’m reminded of this story, I’m always reminded of this poem too …

IRISH HE IS

What shall I say about the Irish?
The utterly impractical, never predictable
Something irascible, quite inexplicable Irish ...

A strange blend of shyness, of pride and conceit,
And stubborn refusal to bow in defeat
He’s spoiling and ready to argue and fight,
Yet the smile of a child fills his soul with delight.
His eyes are the quickest to well up in tears,
Yet his strength is the strongest to banish your fears.
His hate is as fierce as his devotion is grand,
And there is no middle ground on which he will stand.
He’s wild and he’s gentle, he’s good and he’s bad.
He’s proud and he’s humble, he’s happy and sad.
He’s in love with the ocean, the earth and the skies,
He’s enamoured with beauty wherever it lies.
He’s victor and victim, a star and a clod,
But mostly he’s Irish... in love with his God.

Colin Farrell Gets Disneyfied With 'Saving Mr. Banks' June 16th, 2012 4:01pm EDT | (STAR PULSE)

Colin Farrell is about to get a little more family-friendly. The "Fright Night" star will be embracing his paternal instincts as he signs on for a rare "dad" role in "Saving Mr. Banks," according to Deadline.

Farrell joins Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson in the true behind-the-scenes story of the long, hard road to making "Mary Poppins," in which Walt Disney (Hanks) waged a 14-year courtship to persuade Australian author P.L. Travers (Thompson) to sell him the rights to her story of the beloved nanny. Travers (obviously) eventually gave in but remained prickly about it all the way to the end and apparently despised the film's animated sequences.

"Mary Poppins" was a very personal story for Travers, as it reflected the hardships in her real life and her relationship with her father (to be played by Farrell), who died when she was seven years old. Travers' father inspired the character of Mr. Banks, played by David Tomlinson in "Mary Poppins."

Colin Farrell Won't Star In Arthur And Lancelot, But Project Moves Forward (CINEMA BLEND)

Author: Katey Rich

This is the second time Arthur and Lancelot has made a casting change, and by far the least dramatic. Last December up and comers Joel Kinnaman and Kit Harrington were set to star in the film until Warner Bros. halted production, concerned that the $110 million project was too expense to have unknown leads.

Casting Farrell-- and with the idea to bring on James McAvoy as Arthur and Gary Oldman as Merlin-- would have brought a little more starpower, and presumably that's still the route they'll take as they attempt to recast the role.

McAvoy and Oldman never had deals, so don't expect them to stick around as well. But hey, it's a nice fresh start!

Michael Fassbender, LIam Neeson, Pierce Brosnan: Like an Irish whiskey Irish men get better with age (INDEPENDENT IE.)

US showbiz website zap2it has compiled a list of the nation’s best looking men, and features many familiar faces such as Colin Farrell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Michael Fassbender.

The list is not dominated by younger stars however, with Pierce Brosnan (58), Gabriel Byrne (61) and Liam Neeson (59) all making the cut to be ranked as some of our best looking stars.

U2 front man Bono, more used to appearing on top musical earners lists, is also ranked as one of our sexiest men, the ever present sunglasses possibly adding to his allure.

(my favorite - Brendan Gleeson)

Fassbender is thankful for ‘chemistry’ with McQueen (Irish Echo)

Arts & Leisure | By Karen Butler | December 21st, 2011

“It’s a chemistry that I’m very, very grateful for and I feel so blessed I’ve come across it because, for me, it was something I was always looking for — a collaborator,” the 34-year-old actor told reporters in Los Angeles recently. “‘Hunger’ was a big break for me. It was his first movie and so we were experiencing a lot together. I could see on Steve’s face the passion and how he wanted to get it right and I wanted to get it right, too, and we just formed a language very quickly. When we started ‘Shame’ it was just like picking up where we left off. It was like we had just walked off the set of ‘Hunger’ and on to that.”

In “Hunger,” Fassbender played Bobby Sands, the Provisional Irish Republican Army volunteer who led the 1981 Irish hunger strike to protest the treatment of republican prisoners at a jail in County Down, Northern Ireland during the Troubles. He died at age 27 after starving himself for 66 days.

The German-born, Co. Kerry-raised actor gives another unforgettable performance in “Shame.” His portrayal of Brandon Sullivan, a fictional New York sex addict whose life spirals out of control with the arrival at his home of his troubled sister, played by Carey Mulligan, has already earned him Best Actor prizes at the Venice Film Festival and British Independent Film Awards. He was this month nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award and is expected to be a major player in Hollywood’s upcoming Oscars and Golden Globe Awards races.

Asked how he prepared to play such a raw, damaged man, Fassbender said he relied heavily on the film’s screenplay, which told him nearly everything he needed to know about Brandon.

“Part of my preparation, a very big part of it is, I re-read the script. I might read it 300-350 times, so I’m spending a lot of time with [this character] and I’m getting to know him and sort of, throughout the day, I’ll be like, ‘Oh, what would Brandon do in this scenario?’ Just little pieces that you’re gathering. You’re gathering little pieces every day and you’re putting it together and you’re sitting down with it and you’re thinking, ‘Is this logical?’ And if it is logical, well, then give it a try and then Steve is there to steer me in the right direction. It’s just sort of about trying to understand him and relate to him as opposed to the judgment thing, which would be a mistake,” Fassbender noted.

The actor, who attended St. Brendan’s school in Killarney and continued his studies at the Drama Centre in London, said he was never concerned about the impact appearing in the movie’s explicit sex scenes might have on his career. In fact, he laughs when he recalls this piece of sage advice he received from McQueen, “He’s like, ‘You’re an actor — it’s your job, so do it.’”

“I keep things very simple,” added Fassbender, who has starred in the films “300,” “Fish Tank,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Jonah Hex,” “X-Men: The First Class,” “A Dangerous Method” and “Jane Eyre”, as well as the British supernatural TV series “Hex” and the celebrated World War II miniseries “Band of Brothers.”

“People are like: ‘Oh, my God, and then you’re naked. What is that going to do to your career?’ It’s like I’m not a politician. My job is to facilitate characters. I’m a storyteller. And this is one facet of telling that story.”

Up next…

Fassbender is attached to co-star with Colin Farrell, Gabriel Byrne and Cillian Murphy in actor Brendan Gleeson’s directorial debut, “At Swim Two Birds,” a film adaptation of Flann O’Brien’s classic 1939 novel.

Rated NC-17 in the United States, “Shame” is in theaters now.

Films To Watch Before You Die # 25 - In Bruges (2008) (Flickering Myth)

D.J. Haza presents the next entry in his series of films to watch before you die...
In Bruges, 2008.

Directed by Martin McDonagh.
Starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Clémence Poésy and Ralph Fiennes.

In Bruges is a black comedy crime film written and directed by award winning playwright Martin McDonagh. The films follows Ray (Farrell) and Ken (Gleeson), two hitmen hiding out in the small town of Bruges, Belgium after a hit goes wrong. Sent there to hide by their boss Harry (Fiennes) they have conflicting ideas of what they should do with their time, Ken wants to explore the culture and Ray hates everything.

As the two of them hide out it becomes evident that they are in hiding due to Ray accidentally killing a child during only his first hit. Withdrawn and wracked with guilt Ray questions his actions and Ken begins to question his own choice of life path. In trying to hide his guilt Ray goes on a date with an attractive local, Chloe (Clemence Poesy), but it turns out that her and her boyfriend make a habit of robbing tourists. Ray also ends up in a drug-fuelled party with a racist dwarf actor, Jimmy (Jordan Prentice), who is taking part in a film shooting locally.

When the call they have been waiting for finally comes from Harry, Ken is instructed that this was a way for Ray to see something nice before he is punished for killing the child. Ken must kill Ray. Now carrying his own guilt Ken approaches Ray with gun in hand, but finds Ray about to commit suicide and stops him. Ken sends Ray away on a train to change his life, but no sooner had he left than Ray returns to Bruges. Harry is furious at Ken disobeying his orders and makes his own way to Bruges to kill the pair of them.

In Bruges is a brilliantly dark and comical tale of remorse and life reflection, but is also so funny and full of brilliant moments that will have you chuckling. Ray’s disdain at being cooped up in Bruges is hilarious as he constantly berates the town, it’s people and even overweight American tourists planning to climb a small and winding tower.

In Bruges is a film you must see before you die because Martin McDonagh is a fantastic writer and his transition from theatre to film has been a great success so far. His original screenplay for the film earned him a BAFTA and his previous short film Six Shooter, which is absolutely amazing, earned him an Oscar for Best Short Film a few years previous. McDonagh is a man to watch in film and I eagerly await his next project.

David Cronenberg: Robert Pattinson is sensational in “Cosmopolis”

Posted by Larissa Edwards On Monday, November 28th 2011 in Entertainment

Canadian director David Cronenberg trusted Robert Pattinson’s acting abilities and now thinks he is sensational in “Cosmopolis”. The movie doesn’t have an official launch date, but will come out next year.

Though he had pretty good performances in “Water for Elephants”, “Remember Me“, “Bel Ami” or “Little Ashes”, Robert Pattinson, age 25, always had to fight the critics’ bad opinion concerning his acting in “The Twilight Saga”. In an interview with MTV News, Cronenberg unveiled that he chose the British actor for “Cosmopolis” because he instinctively felt that Pattinson was the right one for the part.Cronenberg described his choice in a common casting process mentioning the basics: “How old is he? What does he look like? Is the character very nerdy? Is he handsome and devilish? Is he an intellectual? You think about all these things and you think about the actors who could possibly project the things that you need from this character.”

The director admitted that playing millionaire Eric Packer is very different from playing Edward Cullen in “Twilight”, “New Moon”, “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn”. Still, Cronenberg stated that Robert Pattinson was sensational and made an excellent impression, proving he’s an actor that doesn’t refuse challenges. Croneneberg said this was an unusual jump for the actor and somewhow scary, as Pattinson never really had to carry a movie that way before, totally on his own, appearing in every scene. Still, Cronenberg added that scary is good for an actor and that Pattinson was fantastic: “Really, I'm telling you. He's a great actor. It's obvious in the movie. It's not like maybe yes, maybe no. It's obvious.”

The cast for “Cosmopolis” also includes Marion Cotillard, Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti, Juliette Binoche, Samantha Morton, Mathieu Amalric, Sarah Gadon and Jay Baruchel. The movie shows the agitated day of 28-year-old millionaire Eric Packer, who’s been married to Elise Shifrin (Sarah Gadon) for 22 days and is already cheating on her with two other women the same day he loses his fortune. Trying to reach his father’s barber, Eric is stopped on his way by the funerals of a famous rapper, by an anti globalization protest, and by a presidential visit.
