Tom Hiddleston’s 5 best impressions, From the Cookie Monster to Alan Rickman

Tilda Swinton has become the latest celebrity to experience Tom Hiddleston’s knack for uncanny impressions.

Tilda stars in Jim Jarmusch-directed vampire flick Only Lovers Left Alive with Hiddleston, and revealed that her co-star spent a lot of their time together dazzling her with impressions.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said: ‘We just sort of chewed it and had a great time. We were nocturnal quite a lot, and we played all sorts of silly stuff. He does quite a lot of impressions pretty constantly.’

While admitting she hadn’t heard Tom do an impersonation of her she added that ‘I have seen his Jim Jarmusch and its very good!’

Hiddleston has been getting Hiddlestoners hot under the collar with his scarily accurate mimicry, but which impression is the best? Here’s our (not definitive) ranking.

5) Chris Evans

Captain America Chris Evans has starred with Hiddleston in Marvel’s Avengers Assemble and Thor: The Dark World (albeit briefly), and the pair have done quite a few press rounds, so its unsurprising that Tom has got Evans’ mannerisms on point.

Verdict: While cute, it’s not one of Tom’s better ones though, and nothing beats Evans’ actual speaking voice. Nothing.

4) Samuel L Jackson

It’s a big risk taking on someone as legendary as Samuel L Jackson, but not only does Tom have a go, he puts a Jackson spin on his much-loved Marvel villain Loki.

Verdict: The ‘I am burdened with glorious mother*****g purpose’ line is gold, but you can’t take on Samuel L Jackson and win.

Tom Hiddleston helps Top Gear attract an extra 200k viewers and climb to a 5.5 million audience

BBC2's Top Gear has welcomed a further 200,000 viewers on Sunday and sees the series reach a 5.5 million average.

According to reported viewing figures the motoring series had 20.2% of the audience at 8pm.

BBC One's Call the Midwife, which was on at the same time, attracted 8.77 million, but that was down nearly 200k from last week.

Hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond may have Thor and War Horse star Tom Hiddleston to thank for the rise as he took to their Reasonably Priced Car challenge.

Episode 2 of series 21 also saw Hammond got behind the wheel of the mid-engined Alfa Romeo 4C on the shores of Lake Como in Italy.

 Tom Hiddleston is made of magic. You know that, I know that, the world knows that. Much of this is being brought to the surface right now because of his recent press tour for Thor: The Dark World. And I’m pretty convinced it was orchestrated by some ancient benevolent gods specifically to make up for some of the other crap that goes down in the universe. This includes many a “Hey look at my new movie!” interview, every single one of which has left us fangirl!weeping in the general directions of our computer screens as we type all-caps phrases like “I JUST CAN’T” and “HAVE YOU SEEN??!”

The latest in these was an interview with Entertainment Weekly, in which he is asked to respond to the popularity of Loki — and in which Loki is referred to as a “sexy beast”:

That’s the first time anyone has ever used that phrase about Loki. It’s fascinating isn’t it? I don’t know because it’s not a part of the conscious construction. I take relish in playing him. I think there’s a physical self-possession about him, a self-acceptance. Of course I’ve been very exacting about his physicality. You know, I was born with very blonde, curly hair, and a mixture of Scottish and English genes, and my complexion is very ruddy and healthy. In making him with this raven black hair and blanching my face of all color, it changes my features. Suddenly my blue eyes look a lot bluer, which lends a severity to my face. And even my own smile has a distorted menace to it. Whatever comes through me naturally is distorted. It’s almost like a filter on a light.

While Loki’s particular tortured sexiness is indeed quite notable, though, it is only a small part of the still-burgeoning wonderfulness that is Tom “Hiddles” Hiddleston. Because Tom Hiddleston is already making fanpeople sob and ovaries activate, but his fandom, like that of Benedict Cumberbatch, is still mainly relegated to the Internet. We sense that’s about to change. So let’s explore Hiddles, shall we?*

Here are some of the many reasons we love him so far:

HE’S SHAKESPEAREAN

It has been mentioned in multiple interviews that Tom Hiddleston can (and does) quote Hamlet at length. This is evident from his portrayal of Thor’s Loki, as well as from the fact that he got the job from friend/colleague Kenneth Branagh, the most Shakespearean man to ever Shakespeare in a whole lotta years.

Hiddleston has been in stage productions like Othello and onscreen in BBC’s productions of Henry IV and Henry V. He’s also worked extensively with the Donmar Warehouse, where he will be playing the title character in Coriolanus soon. And have you seen the rehearsal photos from that? Because they’re…important.

So important.

Basically: He’s a thespian to the highest degree, and he will talk about art and language with you all through the day and night.

“Thor 2: The Dark World” star Tom Hiddleston has spoken out about his supervillain character, saying that he wants to see a romance for Loki.

Speaking to Total Film, Hiddleston said that he wants to see the introduction of Loki’ls comic book love interest the Enchantress and hinted that the idea may have already been pitched to Marvel Studios.

“When I was first reading the comics, the relationship with the Enchantress was one of the really fun things I thought would be good to explore, and may have even pitched it to Kevin Feige at some point,” he said. “Because she is as sneaky and as untrustworthy as he was.

 “They basically had a really fantastic and twisted relationship until they both say, ‘You know what? I don’t trust you as far as I can throw you. It’s over.’ Because they keep betraying each other, in a way. So it could be good.” Hiddleston also pointed out that Loki is not a “celibate god,” as he has a child with unlikely mothers.

The first promotional trailer for stage and screen stalwart Tom Hiddleston's highly anticipated return to the stage in the title role of William Shakespeare's bleak historical tragedy CORIOLANUS is now available to view, featuring the actor speaking at length about what audiences can expect from not only the upcoming live performances at the Donmar Warehouse but also the international screening of the theatrical event next year.

Hiddleston will take on the title role in the war-themed tragedy at the Donmar Warehouse in London's West End, running December 6 through February 8, 2014. The production will be directed by Josie Rourke.

Tom Hiddleston Wins Anglo Fan Favorites for Second Straight Year

Congratulations to Tom Hiddleston, who has won his second straight title as Anglo Fan Favorites Man of the Year. He defeated 2011 champion Alan Rickman 56 to 44 percent. The two actors traded leads for much of last weekend, but Hiddleston eventually extended a comfortable margin over Rickman, which he maintained through to the finish line.

Hiddleston, best known for his role as villainous Loki in the Thor films and The Avengers, has inspired a formidable following in a relatively short period of time. (The first Thor film was released in 2011.) His dominance in this year’s tournament raises the question — can anyone beat this guy?

Whether he’s channeling bow-down-to-me villainy as Loki in The Avengers and Thor or bookish wit as F. Scott Fitzgerald in Midnight in Paris, Tom Hiddleston is one of the most exciting British actors to hop the pond in recent years. And we’re not the only ones who think so. “I met David O. Russell for dinner when he was in London for Silver Linings Playbook. I just wanted to tell him how much I loved the film. And he basically spent an hour telling me why he thinks Midnight in Paris is the greatest film that’s been made in the last 20 years, and he insisted on taking a picture because he was such a fan of Fitzgerald,” recalls Hiddleston, 31, who’s part of EW’s New Hollywood cover package, on stands now. “And I wanted to say, ‘David, can you please stop? I need to tell you how great your film is!’”

That kind of reaction isn’t unusual for Hiddleston anymore — and it’s not just industry insiders who are starstruck.  ”I was going through the security machines at Heathrow, and the guard’s eyes went wide, and he said, ‘Oh my God, it’s Loki! Then the whole line turned around. It turned into Comic-Con,” he says. “But I always say, an actor cannot call himself an actor without an audience.”
