Rihanna and Liam Neeson's 'Battleship' Sinks 'Titanic 3D' At UK Box Office (HUFF POST)

Liam Neeson and Rihanna's new Battleship blockbuster has sailed to the top of the UK box office, sinking Titanic 3D.

Battleship made waves during its debut weekend, hauling £3.7m in ticket sales and leaving James Cameron's disaster epic trailing in its wake with £1.8m. The 3D re-release slips to second place.

Cameron won't be too upset, however - the film has cruised past the $2b mark in overall ticket sales. Only one other film has achieved greater monetary success - Cameron's 2009 blockbuster Avatar, which earned a total of $2.8b.

The inspector of tourism in the south of Said, Colonel Husni Hussein, put paid to rumors of her disappearing act when he described her movemets, reporting that the famous actress arrived in Luxor on Friday the 13th of April, incidentally Good Friday during the period of Easter in the Arab world.

To trace her steps, the story goes that she spent the night in the royal suite of the Winter Palace Hotel, and by morning she hit up the Nile for a river cruise to Aswan for evening, from where she then flew to Cairo before taking her leave back on a flight home.

Kate Winslet gets jittery about Titanic nude scene in 3D (INDIA GLITZ)

James Cameron and his cast and crew expressed their excitement on the rerelease of Titanic this Tuesday, which coincides closely with the one hundredth anniversary of the tragic sinking of the ship in 1912.

One star, however, has expressed some resignation of one particular scene that will appear in 3D for the first time. 'I'm not going to look, I'll probably be in the bar by that point,' Kate Winslet, who played the character Rose Dewitt Bukater in the film, said of her 1997 nude scene.

Kate Winslet is apprehensive about how her nude scene in the film will appear in 3D Now aged 36, Winslet claims it is not shame of her body that has brought about this embarrassment, saying she enjoys her physique as much now as she did at 21.

Winslet referred to the scenario as simply 'strange', and compared the experience to that of looking through a photo album of 'your former self'. Winslet is excited about the rest of the premiere, after having missed the original one.

But Kate Winslet admits she wanted to 'block my ears' when witnessing the legendary Titanic in 3D. The epic disaster film, in which the British actress starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, is being re-released to honour the 100th anniversary since the sinking of the famous cruise ship.Referring to her first sneak peek, she said: 'I was literally like, "Oh God, make it stop! Is that me? Oh my God, that's me. Block my ears, somebody! Somebody club out my senses. Make it f***ing stop!"'

Speaking on the Chiambretti Wednesday Show, an Italian programme filmed in Milan, the Oscar-winner added: 'A whole new generation is going to get to experience the film.

Titanic director and 3D enthusiast James Cameron has shown Winslet a portion of the 3D rejig.

"I was literally like, 'Oh my God, make it stop! Is that me? Oh my God, that's me. Block my ears, somebody! Somebody club out my senses. Make it f---ing stop!' " she says.

"And Leo looks so young and so skinny!"

The film's Oscar-winning producer Jon Landau will be in Australia this month to promote the re-release.

Kate Winslet is reuniting with two of her most dashing leading men — Leonardo DiCaprio and Kenneth Branagh.

The Oscar-winning actress will work with DiCaprio this spring, promoting the spectacular 3D version of James Cameron’s Titantic, which was first released 15 years ago. Then she will work on a new movie with Branagh.

She played Ophelia on Branagh’s screen version of Hamlet back in 1996. The two have remained friends, and now Branagh has recruited her to star in a film based on Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Burrows’s best-selling novel The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society, which will start filming in mid-March.

Purple patch: Kate Winslet as Rose in Titanic

Kate will play writer Juliet Ashton, who penned columns for a magazine during World War II. After the war, she is contacted by Channel Islander Dawsey Adams and, as their correspondence continues, the story unfolds of how a book society was established on Nazi-occupied Guernsey to fool curfew patrols.

Branagh has been involved in the film’s pre-production in between enjoying awards season heat thanks to his portrait of Laurence Olivier in Simon Curtis’s movie My Week With Marilyn.

 

The film’s up for three Golden Globe statuettes this Sunday for best film (comedy or musical); best actress (in a comedy or musical) for Michelle Williams; and best supporting actor for Branagh (who’s also in the running for Bafta and Oscar nominations).

Kate could also taste Golden Globe glory. She flies out to Los Angeles later today to prepare for Sunday’s ceremony, where she’s up for the best actress honour for the film Carnage and best actress in a mini-series for HBO’s Mildred Pierce.

Kate saw Titantic 3D footage on Wednesday afternoon and she’s likely to attend the movie’s London premiere in late March.

Titanic producer Jon Landau showed DiCaprio footage late last year and, by all accounts, the actor was knocked out, all over again, by his leading lady. ‘He watched the scene where Kate arrives at the dock and steps out the car and he said to me: “She’s so beautiful,” ’ Landau told me.

He added: ‘Leo’s right, but screen beauty goes beyond the physicality. It’s what the actor brings to the character, and she embodies the character of Rose.’

Landau also revealed that when Kate originally auditioned for the role, she sent director Cameron a note along with a single rose. ‘She signed it “Rose Winslet”,’ he said. She got the part.

Titantic 3D will have one-off showings at 60 screens around the country on Valentine’s Day evening. It’s main release will be on April 6.

It will make a fortune at the box office all over again. The stars could reap a percentage of that bounty under the terms of their original contracts

Sneer at the Twi-hards all you want, but never forget that you were young once too, sniveling at the local multiplex in a mall someplace as Jack slipped beneath the icy North Atlantic waters to leave Rose drifting alone on that plank of wood, alone and crying, her entire life transformed in a single instant.

Perhaps the just-released new poster for "Titanic 3D" will draw up some of those old feelings, with its depiction of the young couple embracing onboard the doomed ship as it begins to sink further and further into the ocean. There's Leo, in his early 20s again, still angel-faced and impossibly beautiful, gripping his beloved Rose as she leans into him, desperate for solace from the chaos around them.
The thing about the re-release of a blockbuster film like "Titanic" is that there's really no need for the marketing team to go out of their way to be creative - just a simple iconic image to stir up fond memories of the movie at hand is enough to get folks into the theater.

"Experience It Like Never Before - In 3D", promises the tagline. BAM! Simple, clean, and effective. I give this baby an "A".

LOS ANGELES – Filmmaker James Cameron on Friday unveiled the first scenes from his new 3D version of the mega-blockbuster hit “Titanic,” the second biggest earner in film history, ahead of its April 2012 release.

Cameron and producer Jon Landau showed 18 minutes of film in the huge screening room at Paramount Studios – the only major motion picture studio left in old Hollywood.

“This a film that many people have seen, obviously, sometimes multiple times, but there is a whole generation of people who haven’t seen it in theatres,” Cameron said.

“I love the 3D, I think it’s spectacular. If I had had 3D cameras at the time, if there had been 3D theatres at the time, I would certainly have shot the film in 3D.”

“Titanic” – which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as star-crossed lovers aboard the ill-fated passenger steamship that struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sank in 1912 – was first released in 1997.

The film earned more than $1.8 billion worldwide and 11 Oscars including Best Picture and a Best Director statuette for Cameron.

It remained the highest-grossing film of all time until Cameron’s “Avatar” shattered the record with more than $2.8 billion in worldwide receipts.

“I do believe that there is an array of 10 or 20 movies — think of the best movies of all times – that should be converted in 3D, but it has to be done right,” Cameron said.

“I firmly believe that 3D is an enhancement even for just normal, narrative scenes, not necessarily the action scenes,” he said.

“That feeling that you’re right there, actually with characters, enhances the emotional interaction between the audience and the film.”

He however admitted that “Titanic” for him would only become a film in “2.99D” as opposed to one originally filmed in 3D.

The 3D version of “Titanic” will hit theaters in North America on April 6, 2012, four days before the 100th anniversary of the ship’s doomed maiden voyage from Southampton to New York.
