Kingsman 3 is already in the works

T2
UJJAINEE ROY @UjjaineeRoy | 6 MAY 2017, 2:04 PM

The Kingsman series is going to be a trilogy — just as we had hoped. Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle, which is the sequel to the 2015 spy thriller Kingsman: The Secret Service, released its first trailer last month, and the will release this September. Meanwhile, the makers are already developing Kingsman 3.

"Weirdly while we were writing Kingsman 2, we were thinking of Kingsman 3 as well, which is odd. We’ve got a big idea for that. This is sort of the bridge and if we can pull this off, we’ll make another one," Kingsman writer-director Matthew Vaughn told Collider. Kingsman: The Secret Service was a huge success, starring Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong and Michael Caine, and the sequel is one of the most anticipated ones of this year.

Kingsman followed the story of an aimless young man Eggsy (Egerton), who is trained extensively to be a secret agent, by Harry Hart (Colin Firth). Eggsy eventually joins the elite spy organization Kingsman, and takes on a challenge to stop global devastation planned by a psychopath (Samuel L Jackson).

Kingsman sequel confirms Colin Firth's return after many teases

EW

POSTED ON MARCH 30, 2017 AT 9:58AM EDT

It seems reports of secret agent Harry Hart’s death were indeed greatly exaggerated after all.

After months of teasing and speculation, the new poster for Kingsman: The Golden Circle officially confirms Colin Firth will return to the film series he launched three years ago as the presumably ill-fated operative, who was shot near the tail end of the first installment, The Secret Service, in 2014.

Tweeted Thursday by the film’s official Twitter account, The Golden Circle‘s minimalist poster prominently features the names of several new cast members who’ve boarded the sequel, including Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, Elton John, Jeff Bridges, and Channing Tatum. In addition to Firth, the new Kingsman class will appear alongside returning performers Taron Egerton and Mark Strong.

Benedict Cumberbatch: 'Sherlock' Star Says He's 'Nesting' With Newly-Married Wife Sophie Hunter

Benedict Cumberbatch is nesting.

The 38-year-old "Sherlock" star, whose wife, theater director Sophie Hunter, is pregnant, told the Mirror, "I am nesting for my family and just living a London life."

"I want to live as much a normal life as I can," he insisted.

According to Cumberbatch, it is possible to be both a famous actor and a good parent.

"I think there are plenty of good actors who are fathers," he said in a recent interview with ET Canada. "I mean, you only have to look at Daniel Day-Lewis as an example and a lot of my dear friends: Mark Strong, I mean, I could go on and on. I think what children do is enhance your life, they don't inhibit it. They don't limit it, they give you inspiration and depths of understanding of the human condition and what it is to be on this planet and what our purpose is, that goes well beyond anything a childless actor could hope for."

"I know, I can speak for many other friends of mine," Cumberbatch added. "Martin (Freeman) is another example who springs to mind, who managed to balance a home life and a work life. It's not easy, but then everyone is doing it, everyone I know who has children is managing it, so it's not impossible."

Mark Strong and Penelope Wilton scoop top prizes at Olivier Awards 2015

Downton Abbey's Penelope Wilton and veteran film actor Mark Strong have topped the list of winners at this year's Olivier Theatre Awards, winning Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively.

Wilton was honoured for her critically-acclaimed portrayal of the mother of German lawyer Hans Litten – the man who put Hitler on the witness stand in 1931 – in Mark Hayhurst's Taken At Midnight, while Strong won his accolade for playing troubled dock worker Eddie Carbone in the revival of Arthur Miller's 1950s-set A View from the Bridge.

Other screen stars making waves at Britain's biggest theatre awards were Murder She Wrote actress Angela Lansbury, whose return after nearly 40 years to the UK stage in Noël Coward's Blithe Spirit earned her a Best Supporting Actress gong. The Inspector Lynley Mysteries' Nathaniel Parker won Best Supporting Actor for playing Henry VIII in the theatre production of Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies.

Still, not all the big-name nominees were so lucky – Strong beat James McAvoy, Richard Armitage and Tim Pigott-Smith in the Best Actor category, while Wilton was up against hotly-tipped Gillian Anderson, Kristin Scott Thomas and Imelda Staunton. Elsewhere, Gemma Arterton and Nicole Scherzinger were beaten to the Best Actress and Supporting Actress in a Musical by Katie Brayben and Lorna Want from Carole King-based musical Beautiful.

Colin Firth looks dapper in Saville Row suit as he is joined by his beautiful wife Livia at Kingsman: The Secret Service world premiere

I spy: Colin Firth proved that he is just a dapper out of character as he made a stylish arrive to the world premiere of the spy film, Kingsman: The Secret Service,  in London on Wednesday evening

He plays a gentleman spy who is never seen in anything less than a perfectly tailored suit in his new film, Kingsman:The Secret Service.

And Colin Firth proved that he is just a dapper out of character as he made a stylish arrive to the world premiere of the spy film in London on Wednesday evening.

The actor was joined by his beautiful wife Livia as they walked the red carpet together alongside the film’s other stars.

The bespoke Kingsman suit was made by Martin Nicholls in London, the tailor who produced all of the suits for the film.

Produced from New Zealand wool, the cloth itself is a very British affair, wholly manufactured in Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, his wife restyled her black Emilia Wickstead suit with large Chopard hoop earrings and a gold Kayu clutch.

She added height to her attire with metallic gold Roger Viver heels as she wore her brunette locks in a sleek straight style and highlight her features with minimal make-up.

Supermodel Claudia Schiffer was on hand to show her support for her director husband, Matthew Vaughn, as she added the event in casual layered ensemble.

Colin Firth says he is ‘still processing’ his response to intense action sequences in Kingsman: The Secret Service

DAILY MAIL
By SAM CREIGHTON FOR THE DAILY MAIL
PUBLISHED: 20:34 EST, 1 January 2015 | UPDATED: 06:22 EST, 2 January 2015

He made his name playing calm, civilised gentlemen in films such as Love Actually.

So movie-goers may be shocked at the graphic violence in Colin Firth’s latest film.

The actor, told Empire magazine he was ‘still processing’ his response to scenes such as gun battles in Kingsman: The Secret Service. He called for ‘legitimate discussions’ on whether film-makers should be encouraging audiences to enjoy violence.

Campaigners called his remarks ‘very encouraging’ but urged him to refuse roles in such films in future.

In Kingsman, rated 15 and due for release on January 29, Firth plays a spy training a homeless youngster to be a secret agent.

Kingsman also stars Sir Michael Caine and Samuel L. Jackson and is released on January 29 with a 15 rating.

It is the latest film from Matthew Vaughn, the husband on supermodel Claudia Schiffer and the director behind the films Layer Cake and Kick-Ass, which both drew attention because of their controversial content.

This latest project sees super-spy Harry Hart, played by Firth, take a rough street kid under his wing and train him to be a lethal secret agent.

But father-of-three Firth said: ‘I’m still processing my response. I did think, “I don’t know what I’m getting into now.” And there will be arguments, legitimate discussions, about whether it’s healthy to enjoy anything with violence.

'Particularly when you’re dared to enjoy it. I still don’t have the answers on what’s supposed to be good and bad. But I was exhilarated as well.’

His comments have been welcomed by campaigners against on-screen violence, who have called on filmmakers to take note of Firth’s concerns.

Pippa Smith, co-founder of the Safermedia campaign, said: ‘I think it’s very encouraging that an actor of his standing does question this level of violence. I rather hope that at some point someone will say “I’m not going to act in this film because of the levels of violence and I shouldn’t be promoting this sort of violence”, but I’m very encouraged to hear what he’s said.

‘It’s made him worried and concerned obviously and he’s quite right to be concerned that viewers are almost expected to enjoy this sort of violence, otherwise why would they have it in the first place?

Colin Firth: Early Rave Reviews Roll In For 'Kingsman: The Secret Service'

INDIEWIRE
By Kevin Jagernauth | The Playlist
December 30, 2014 at 10:09AM

It's a bit surprising given that Fox had pushed the movie out of its original fall release date into early 2015, and that the movie itself — a violent, tongue-in-cheek riff on the spy genre starring Colin Firth and Samuel L. Jackson — doesn't exactly scream critic bait. But it seems Vaughan has pulled it off, creating a big piece of popcorn entertainment that works on all levels, even if some of the button-pushing sequences and alleged sexism are expected to create some controversy. "Kingsman: The Secret Service" opens on February 13th. Here's what the critics had to say:

The Guardian: "They say the clothes make the man, and these are some killer duds....Despite the presence of grandfatherly Michael Caine, Kingsman’s tone is about as far from the Christopher Nolan-style superhero film as you can get. Verisimilitude is frequently traded in for a rich laugh. The action scenes delight with shock humour. It’s violent, but not gory, ready-made for word balloons reading 'OOOF' or 'KRAKOOM.' "

(there is absolutely no reason for me to include this GIF except for the obvious)

Empire: "Perhaps the riskiest mainstream movie in years, Vaughn’s love letter to spy movies may be uneven in places, but it’s ultra-violent, envelope-pushing, and fun enough to overcome the flaws. Bond with the stabilisers taken off."

The Wrap: "The fifth and, yes, best film from director Matthew Vaughn ('Layer Cake,' 'X-Men: First Class'), 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' is a startlingly enjoyable and well-made action film leavened by humor and slicked along by style, made by, for, and about people who’ve seen far too many Bond films."

THR: "As he did in 'X-Men: First Class,' director Matthew Vaughn strikes an energetic balance between cartoonish action and character-driven drama, though the tinge here is darker, with a story that hinges on matters of climate change, the insidiousness of technology and the class divide. The mix grows less seamless and the story loses oomph as it barrels toward its doomsday countdown, but the cast's dash and humor never flag. And if the movie sometimes panders shamelessly to fanboys, that could serve it well upon its February release, when it goes head-to-head against a fantasy of another persuasion: 'Fifty Shades of Grey'….Reviewed in nearly final form, the widescreen feature pops with sharp action, including a brief bit of parkour and a car chase in reverse."

‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ Review: Colin Firth Rocks Suits, Stunts, and ‘Splosions

THE WRAP
 By James Rocchi on
December 27, 2014 @ 8:00 am

kingsman-the-secret-service-KSS_JB_D01_00117_rgbThe fifth and, yes, best film from director Matthew Vaughn (“Layer Cake,” “X-Men: First Class”), “Kingsman: The Secret Service” is a startlingly enjoyable and well-made action film leavened by humor and slicked along by style, made by, for, and about people who’ve seen far too many Bond films. Fleet-footed and unrepentantly British, it’s a reunion of sorts behind the scenes for Vaughn and comics writer Mark Millar, but it’s infinitely better than their 2010 collaboration “Kick-Ass.”

Credit for that goes to Vaughn’s adaptation of the script alongside producer Jane Goldman, which finds cheer and cleverness in Millar’s mixture of retro-style spy action with a snobs-versus-slobs twist.

The basics are basic indeed: Super-spy Harry Hart (Colin Firth, surprisingly capable and up for it), obligated to recruit a new member for the independent spy group from which the film takes its name, chooses the grown-but-aimless son of a late comrade, Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin (Taron Egerton). Eggsy is put through his paces as a potential spy even as Hart investigates whether telecommunications mogul Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson, playing a mix of Russell Simmons and Bill Gates by way of Blofeld with a comedy lisp) is the target of a round of kidnappings and killings or if he is, in fact, the mastermind behind them.

With its fashion-forward flair — the film may borrow liberally from the Roger Moore 007 era, but there’s also a touch of Patrick Macnee’s bespoked gentleman spy Mr. Steed from “The Avengers” — “Kingsman: The Secret Service” feels like a well-made gentleman’s suit, with superb cut, distinctive color, and excellent construction.  In terms of cut, the film’s style is precise and yet broad, with the hidden lairs, jump-suited minions and maniacal villains of a long-gone era of Bond movies, perfectly walking the fine line of mocking what it loves and vice versa. You get the gear, the gadgets, and the gusto, but you also get sly winks at how ludicrous it all is; it’s a movie that fakes a stiff upper lip but also constantly raises its eyebrow in amusement.

In terms of color, important for both a film and a men’s ensemble, Vaughn has cast his film fairly perfectly. Firth is game and great in his computer-aided fight scenes and his dialogue delivery, with Egerton a naturally charismatic presence with smarts behind his smile. Mark Strong plays gadgetmaster Merlin, while Michael Caine is briefly brilliant as the head of Kingsman. Jackson goes for broke and strikes riches as Valentine, supported by henchwoman Gazelle (Sofia Boutella), who sports a pair of sharpened-and-bladed prosthetic legs as divinely mad as any deadly dentures Richard Kiel ever wore as Jaws. The score, by Henry Jackman and Matthew Margeson, offers perfectly fun pastiches of John Barry’s iconic work on the 007 films.

Newly engaged Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter put on an affectionate display at Moet British Independent Film Awards

Supportive: Sophie Hunter accompanied her fiance Benedict Cumberbatch as he attended the Moet British Independent Film Awards at Old Billingsgate Market on Sunday to receive his Variety Award

He only announced his engagement last month and things just keep getting better for Benedict Cumberbatch.

Just a few days after his casting as Marvel’s Doctor Strange was announced, the 38-year-old actor walked the red carpet at the Moet British Independent Film Awards at Old Billingsgate Market on Sunday with his beautiful fiancee Sophie Hunter.

Another highlight of Benedict's skyrocketing career came as he was due to be presented with the Variety Award, which recognises a talent who has helped to focus the international spotlight on the UK, at the annual bash, so it's not surprising Sophie was present to cheer him on.

'She's proud of my work, she's proud of me, and she loves me,' he said. 'That's the bottom line, isn't it? That's one of the reasons it's a good fit. It could be a really difficult thing, but she's just so in command of it.'

However, while the star was open about his admiration for his future wife, he was mum on whether or not they'll be quick to start a family, saying: 'I've got to be very coy on that one. Very silent.'

But Benedict was keen to reassure fans that life does go on, now that he has become engaged to Sophie .

While appearing on "Late Night with Seth Meyers," actress Keira Knightley opened up about Benedict Cumberbatch's overzealous fans. She co-starred with Cumberbatch in films such as "The Imitation Game" and "Atonement."

"You got to work with Benedict Cumberbatch," Meyers said. "You've really seen the explosion of how ladies have lost their minds."

"The Cumberb----es," Knightley responded, referring to Cumberbatch's hoard of female fans. Other names for the obsessed admirers include Cumbercookies and CumberCollective.

"They've become a thing!" Meyers responded.

"It's terrifying," Knightley said. "I mean, they're lovely. I feel terrified saying they're terrifying cause they might come after me."

The 29-year-old actress then changed her tone a bit, praising the fans.

"They're very artistic! They paint pictures of him. You go to premieres and there's these amazing paintings of Ben looking Ben-like ... (They're) a very hysterical, artistic type."

Knightley went on to describe an awkward interaction with Cumberbatch's fans at an event.

Benedict Cumberbatch Brilliant at Handling Fame - plus some videos of this week's appearances

VANITY FAIR
Katey Rich
November 18, 2014

Matthew Goode fondly remembers the days before Benedict Cumberbatch became, as he calls it, “a Beatle.” At a Q&A following a New York screening of The Imitation Game on Monday, Goode said he’d like to go back the days when he and his co-star would “go back to the Wells tavern in Hampstead and do pub quizzes.”

“Me too,” chimed in Cumberbatch, with the kind of longing that can only come from a man who knows he’s too famous to step foot inside a pub anytime soon.

“I love the little paintings above the bar,” Goode continued, to be interrupted by Cumberbatch—“The original Victorian engravings!”

“And we would sit in the window by the fire,” Goode said, sounding a little wistful, and only to set up his punch line: “And make slow love . . . No! That’s never happened!” As the audience roared and maybe even wolf-whistled, Goode got that wistful look in his eye again: “God, how I tried . . .”

Goode, Cumberbatch, and the rest of the Imitation Game cast—which includes Keira Knightley, Mark Strong, and Charles Dance—were on a whirlwind tour of New York City on Monday, from morning-show appearances, a luncheon with awards voters and other heavyweights, the premiere at the Ziegfeld Theater, to the SAG-screening Q&A, hosted by Vanity Fair digital director Mike Hogan. (We’ll have more on that conversation, video included, tomorrow.) The grand tour launched at the same time as a New York magazine feature titled “Benedict and the Cumberbitches,” about the 38-year-old’s massive fan base and the situation at the Toronto International Film Festival, which Goode described as “shutting the city down,” to the point that he and his other co-stars “weren’t allowed in. We’re like, ‘We’re in the fucking film, too. Can we come shout for him as well?’ ”

When Jason Orange quit Take That last month, we knew it wouldn't take the trio long to recruit a new member.

According to Gary Barlow, actor Colin Firth has been lined up to replace Jason... well, sort of...

"He's the new fourth man," the former X Factor judge told the Daily Mail.

Colin Firth will be performing with the band on the video of their new song – Get Ready For It – which the bandmates recorded for the forthcoming action spy thriller Kingsman: The Secret Service.

The film stars Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Strong and Sofia Boutella. The track will play over the movie's closing credits.

"We're getting Colin in the video, and we're all going to be dressed up in the tailored suits he wears in the film. It's a smart look!"

Benedict Cumberbatch Brings His Sherlock Persona To The Brainy, Brilliant The Imitation Game

CINEMA BLEND
BY SEAN O'CONNELL 2014-09-07 19:30:50

Morten Tydlum’s The Imitation Game is a first-rate biopic, a thrilling espionage game that’s beautifully crafted and acted. To speak the film’s language – one of codes cracked by mathematicians – the movie equates. It’s also every bit as touching, tragic and romantic as it is intelligent and compelling. And yes, for those who keep track of these annual marathons, it is (or should be) an Oscar contender. Picture, director, screenplay, supporting actress and actor all seem to be in play.

Particularly Best Actor – yes, "Cumberbitches" – for Benedict Cumberbatch's calculated, lean, strong and confident portrayal of brilliant mathematician Alan Turing, who is recruited by the British government during time of war to help decipher Enigma, the machine the Germans use to encode their messages. To crack Enigma might mean to drastically shorten the war. But there is a lot more happening in The Imitation Game then the war effort.

"Pay attention," we are warned, in a Sherlock-y, Khan tone. Alan Turing has secrets. Everyone has secrets at play in The Imitation Game, from the military brass who recruit Turing to the MI6 agent (Mark Strong) who shadows his progress. But few are quite as damaging, as life-altering as Turing’s secrets can (and will) be. If you know history, you know the progressing of this story. The Imitation Game guards its reveal until the one-hour mark, so I’ll steer clear of it for now. It will be a major talking point as the film begins to roll out and play to larger audiences. For now, here’s what I’m comfortable telling you.

Turing -- much like Benedict Cumberbatch’s iconic Sherlock Holmes portrayal -- is a hyper-intelligent, internalized sociopaths with little patience for inferior folks and a laser-focus on task. The task, in this case, could save thousands of military lives and, possibly, turn the tide in a global conflict. But Turing is supposed to be part of a team, and the men he’s supposed to collaborate with (personified by Matthew Goode, Matthew Beard and Allen Leech) can’t stand his aloof arrogance.

Colin Firth: Trailer for 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' debuts

ENTERTAINMENT IE.

Kingsman

Well here's something we thought we'd never see - noted Oscar-winning British thespian Colin Firth in a comic-book movie. Based on Mark Millar's controversial series that puts a working-class ASBO teenager into the world of high espionage, Kingsman: The Secret Service looks like it could be pretty interesting.

Directed by X-Men: First Class' Matthew Vaughn and starring Michael Caine, Mark Strong and Taron Egerton as well as a little glimpse of Samuel L. Jackson and a lisp, Kingsman: The Secret Service looks like it's blending James Bond with Wanted and a dash of TV's Misfits. Half of the charm will undoubtedly come from the very notion of Colin Firth being an action hero, not to mention the fact that he actually looks like he's enjoying himself.
