We've arrived: Colin Firth and Livia Giuggioli arrive in Cannes on a Sunliner X Yacht on Friday morning

The Cannes Film Festival tends to bring out the best in red carpet stars.

But straight from disembarking their docked yacht on the Riviera, Colin Firth and Livia Giuggioli put on an exquisite display.

Handsome gentleman Colin, 54, and his beautiful counterpart Livia, 45, looked stylish as they stepped off the luxury sunliner in sunglasses on Friday morning in the sunshine.

Colin may be the moviestar but this was the time for Livia to shine in the movie world.

On the red carpet and on the big screen in Cannes, she will have a big role to play because she is a keen purveyor of ethical fashion.

Livia is the executive producer on The True Cost, a new documentary film exploring the impact of fashion on people and the planet.

Inside the yacht, the couple posed for pictures with the film's director Andrew Morgan and producer Michael Ross as well as fellow female producer Laura Piety.

All aboard: It was a busy morning for the couple, who were only just arriving in Cannes

Colin has already received some good Cannes news, since his new film Genius - starring Jude Law, Nicole Kidman and Laura Linney - has been acquired Lionsgate.

The Michael Grandage-directed film will chronicle the work of scribe Max Perkins when he was book editor at Scribner, overseeing works such authors as Thomas Wolfe.

The film explores the complex relationship between Max and Thomas Wolfe, played by Jude Law, and Ernest Hemingway, portrayed by Dominic West, who are both authors whose work Perkins oversaw.

Aidan Turner: I put a stone on after Poldark ended and I'm too fat and hairy to get my top off

THE MIRROR
BY NICOLA METHVEN
15 May, 2015

Poldark heart-throb Aidan Turner has revealed he put on a stone as soon as the show ended and is now “too fat and hairy” to get his top off.

The actor, who stripped off for the now infamous scything scene, also said he knew his technique was wrong but stuck with it to add to the drama.

Aidan, 31, said the effort that went in to creating his renowned six-pack was enormous. “It’s quite hard work to get into that sort of shape.

“Towards the end, I was so sick of it - I wanted to stuff my face. I think I put on a stone straight away.”

He claimed that fans would be “so disappointed” if he bared his torso now.

“I’m way too hairy,” he laughed. “If I went to the beach right now, people wouldn’t recognise me. I think keeping my top on these days is probably a good idea. I’m in nothing like the shape I was.

“People are just, ‘Hey - where’s your six-pack?’ I’m like, ‘I’m fat now - what are you talking about?’”

But the hunky star plans to hit the gym once again before filming on the second series starts in September.

Aidan entirely agrees with the scything experts who criticised his efforts. For the episode, he took lessons from a pro who said it should be more of a gentle twisting motion than massing slashing.

But he laughed: “Can you imagine if that was the scene? I was getting f***ing stuck in and every time I was doing it, I could see him shaking his head and turning away.

Doc Martin comes back to Cornwall

ITV REPORT  15 May 2015 at 4:32pm

Martin Clunes is back in Cornwall filming the seventh series of his hit ITV comedy drama Doc Martin.

The actor from Dorset took a break from filming to speak exclusively to ITV West Country about his love of the county.

It feels like a second holiday in a way, even though it's hard work. It's a five month slog of very long hours but it's such a nice place to be. There's a lot of hanging around in our game but look where we get to hang around. The amount of hours I've spent gazing out to sea here.

– MARTIN CLUNES, "DOC MARTIN"

Port Isaac has become Port Wenn for the popular series Credit: ITV News
The entire cast and crew stays in the Cornish village of Port Isaac for five months during the busy filming schedule.

The new series, which airs in the autumn, will feature four local babies who have been picked from 150 hopefuls to share the role of the doctor's son.

Around 800 local people also auditioned to be extras.

While we were on set we bumped into a pair of "Clunatics" as Martin Clunes' fans are known as. These two women have travelled all the way from the States to see behind the scenes.

Why Eddie Redmayne And Benedict Cumberbatch Get All The Good Acting Jobs according to Rupert Everett

Sophisticated Englishmen are what the American people want, and that is therefore what the American people get, according to British actor Rupert Everett.

Therefore, Everett told Radio Times, Brits should stop complaining that rich private school grads like Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne are nabbing all the seven figure acting jobs in Hollywood.

"Everyone's whining about that but the fact of the matter is, acting is like hooking," Everett said. "What people want to see is what people want to see. What the Americans want to see of the English -- they don't want to see snaggle-toothed working class people, obviously. They want to see upper class people -- that's what they want. That's why they love 'Downton Abbey.'"

"The upper class people are making the films that the Americans like but that's how it is. There's nothing we can do about that," added Everett, star of "My Best Friend's Wedding." "We can't force the Americans to change their minds but we could also just not be so envious and bitter about it and celebrate at the same time all the other people who do amazing work and are huge stars in our own country and then get to break out as well."

Crimson Peak Trailer

We officially have goose bumps!

In a newly released trailer of the horror flick Crimson Peak, the clip starts out in a dimly lit room with a trembling young girl who fears what may come out of the dark.

Mia Wasikowska portrays Edith, who grows up to be an aspiring author, torn between the love of an old friend and the romantic temptation of Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston). As Edith tries to escape the ghosts of her traumatic past, she becomes captive to a house that bleeds the truth.
"You see where I come from, ghosts are not to be taken lightly," the Thor star warns.

Director Guillermo del Toro's star-studded cast includes Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam and Jessica Chastain, both adding elements to a thriller that will surely leave viewers on the edge of their seats.

Benedict Cumberbatch is nesting.

The 38-year-old "Sherlock" star, whose wife, theater director Sophie Hunter, is pregnant, told the Mirror, "I am nesting for my family and just living a London life."

"I want to live as much a normal life as I can," he insisted.

According to Cumberbatch, it is possible to be both a famous actor and a good parent.

"I think there are plenty of good actors who are fathers," he said in a recent interview with ET Canada. "I mean, you only have to look at Daniel Day-Lewis as an example and a lot of my dear friends: Mark Strong, I mean, I could go on and on. I think what children do is enhance your life, they don't inhibit it. They don't limit it, they give you inspiration and depths of understanding of the human condition and what it is to be on this planet and what our purpose is, that goes well beyond anything a childless actor could hope for."

"I know, I can speak for many other friends of mine," Cumberbatch added. "Martin (Freeman) is another example who springs to mind, who managed to balance a home life and a work life. It's not easy, but then everyone is doing it, everyone I know who has children is managing it, so it's not impossible."

Aidan Turner playing Poldark in BBC hit was "meant to be”, says show's writer

MIRROR

Eleanor Tomlinson as Demelza and Aiden Turner as Ross Poldark in Poldark

Aiden Turner being cast as Poldark in BBC hit was "meant to be”, according to a key member of the production.

The writer who helped bring the BBC's hit remake of Poldark to TV said the casting of Aidan Turner as the title character was spot on.

The 31-year-old actor has won millions of fans for his brooding role as Captain Ross Poldark and the Cornish saga has since been recommissioned for a second series.

Scenes of Turner swimming naked in the sea and working topless with a scythe in a field have grabbed the most attention, while a question and answer Twitter session descended into farce when the actor was swamped with questions about his looks.

Debbie Horsfield, who wrote the hit adaptation, said she knew "somebody pretty spectacular" had to play the title role and Turner was her first choice.

She told BBC Radio 5 live's Anna Foster she normally does not write scripts with actors in mind but made an exception for Turner.

She said: "I started mulling it over in my head what were the characteristics that you would need and it became clear it was a pretty special person. I wrote one name down in my notebook then closed the book and didn't say anything to anybody."
