Charlie Hunnam Tapping Inner Steve McQueen In ‘Papillon’ Remake?

DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD
By Mike Fleming, Jr.
May 4, 2016

EXCLUSIVE: You could have imagined Steve McQueen playing prodigal existentially conflicted biker gang leader Jax Teller in Sons Of Anarchy, so it doesn’t seem a stretch to envision Charlie Hunnam taking on the role originated by McQueen in the 1973 classic prison escape drama Papillon. Wolf Of Wall Street producer Red Granite is putting it together for a fall shoot with Danish director Michael Noer attached to direct a script by Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski.

I hear that’s the conversation going on right now. McQueen played a man unjustly convicted of murder in 1930s France and condemned to life in a South American prison. He plots his escape, aided by a counterfeiter (Dustin Hoffman co-starred) who finances Papillon’s prison escapes in exchange for protection in prison. Tale was scripted by Dalton Trumbo and Lorenzo Semple Jr, directed by Franklin J Schaffner from French convict Henri Charriere’s autobiography.

Crimson Peak Trailer

We officially have goose bumps!

In a newly released trailer of the horror flick Crimson Peak, the clip starts out in a dimly lit room with a trembling young girl who fears what may come out of the dark.

Mia Wasikowska portrays Edith, who grows up to be an aspiring author, torn between the love of an old friend and the romantic temptation of Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston). As Edith tries to escape the ghosts of her traumatic past, she becomes captive to a house that bleeds the truth.
"You see where I come from, ghosts are not to be taken lightly," the Thor star warns.

Director Guillermo del Toro's star-studded cast includes Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam and Jessica Chastain, both adding elements to a thriller that will surely leave viewers on the edge of their seats.

'Crimson Peak' Spoilers: Charlie Hunnam Says 'Beautiful' Tom Hiddleston Film Is Guillermo Del Toro's Best

FASHION AND STYLE

(Photo : Getty/Kevin Winter) "Crimson Peak" star Charlie Hunnam

We officially have less than six months before Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak" hits theaters, and with every crumb of information we get about the gothic horror we can't help but feel more and more excited. The latest, provided by star Charlie Hunnam to Details, is no exception:

It's beautiful, it's him absolutely in his wheelhouse. It's a classic Gothic romance set against a backdrop of this very rural house in the middle of nowhere. Everybody did a great job, Jessica [Chastain] absolutely killed it, she's wonderful in the film. I think it's one of Guillermo's best films, if not maybe his best film.

I'm actually not really in it that much, it's really Mia Wasikowska, Jessica, and Tom Hiddleston's film, and when I'm in it, it's significant, but I really just did it because I love Guillermo and wanted to work with him again. If it had been anybody else, I probably wouldn't have taken the role. I had to turn down a lot other stuff to be free to do that. People were like, "What the f**k are you doing?" but I'm doing exactly what I damn well please. That's my answer.

FIRST IMAGE: See Charlie Hunnam as England's King Arthur

PEOPLE
BY JACQUELINE ANDRIAKOS @jandriakos 03/12/2015 AT 03:15 PM EDT

Embedded image permalink

Charlie Hunnam has officially traded in his leather for fur.

The Sons of Anarchy alum, 34, is starring in director Guy Ritchie's upcoming King Arthur movie Knights of the Round Table – and the first image of a medieval Hunnam has hit the Internet.

Ritchie, 46, Tweeted a picture of the duo on set in a sunlit, foggy forest in the UK.

"First day on KORT," the English filmmaker captioned the shot, which shows Hunnam in the title role, sporting a fur parka and a saddlebag. (But he's still rocking his trademark scruff!)

Ritchie's feature film – which is scheduled to open in summer 2016 – will take a new spin on the classic tale. According to the official synopsis, the movie follows a young Arthur who is unaware of the life he was born for until he comes in contact with the magical sword Excalibur. With its power, he will have to defeat the tyrant Vortigern to avenge his parents' murders, regain his rightful crown and become King.

Starring alongside Hunnam is Astrid Bergès-Frisbey as the Arthurian love interest Guinevere, Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) as Bedivere, Game of Thrones's Aidan Gillen as Goosefat Bill, Jude Law as the villainous Vortigern and Eric Bana as King Arthur's father, King Uther Pendragon.

Tom HIddleston: Is ‘Crimson Peak’ Guillermo del Toro’s First Good English Film?

MOVIE CHEAT SHEET
Jacqueline Sahagian
February 16, 2015

The trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s next movie has debuted and it looks like the creep master might have made his a film worthy of legitimate critical acclaim for the first time since his 2006 Spanish-language dark fantasy masterpiece Pan’s Labyrinth. Crimson Peak is a horror movie in the old-fashioned haunted house tradition that looks like it has del Toro in his element, pulling out all the stops to engage terrifying visuals and scare the crap out of viewers. A top-notch cast including Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, and Jessica Chastain means this will be much more than your average Halloween slasher.

In the past Del Toro has separated his “good” movies (Spanish-language efforts) from his more commercial and fun English-language efforts like Hellboy and Pacific Rim. Clearly comic book and pulpy films still have a place in the director’s heart, but he told iO9 that the chance to direct and produce Crimson Peak changed his perspective on his ability to do more thoughtful work in English. “I wanted to make a movie that was able to blend two sides of my personality. After I did Mimic… Mimic was such a tough experience that I said, ‘I’m going to do the painfully beautiful and creepy things in my Spanish-language films, and I’m going to do the big sort of pop-pulp fun movies in English.’”

Pan’s Labyrinth won three Oscars, was nominated for three others, and continues to be included on lists of the greatest recent movies, including the IMDb 250 compiled by the Internet Movie Database’s most loyal users. That film is a study of the Spanish Civil War and how a young girl uses her imagination to escape her brutal reality. After making Pan’s Labyrinth, del Toro focused more on the “pop-pulp fun” movies with Hellboy II in 2008 and Pacific Rim in 2013. His new horror TV show The Strain on FX has gotten decent reception and has been picked up for another season. Nothing he’s made since Pan’s Labyrinth has gotten the same kind of critical acclaim, but Crimson Peak could change that.

Like Pan’s Labyrinth, Crimson Peak has a young female heroine at its center. While there is an element of romance used to kick off the story, as is common in the gothic tradition, del Toro says that was never meant to be the focus.

“I wanted to tackle a great adult story for a female lead,” del Toro told iO9. “I think it’s great when the female lead [is in] a normal romantic story, but then we live past that. Past getting the guy — fuck all that shit — we see her becoming her own person. We do what is done in gothic romance. We have the thriller aspect of it, we have the romance, brutal moments, and we have scary ghosts — but scarier people than ghosts. It’s a beautiful confection, and I hope you enjoy it.”

Charlie Hunnam: I don't party

BELFAST TELEGRAPH
January 29, 2015

Charlie Hunnam hates small talk and socialising with strangers.

The British actor began his career in his home country but has since made it in America, taking the lead in TV show Sons of Anarchy and scoring movie roles. Many would presume he’s living the dream, but there are some aspects of his career which don’t sit so well with the star.

“My social anxiety,” he told Women’s Health magazine, when asked what he’s most insecure about. “I hate going to parties, I hate small talk, and I hate socialising with people I don’t know. I feel horribly awkward in those situations. If I have to go to a party, my whole day is ruined worrying about it.”

And that’s not the only thing which has been playing on the star’s mind. He shot into the limelight in 2013 when he was announced to be playing raunchy businessman Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation, although he pulled out of the picture not long afterwards and was replaced by Jamie Dornan.

Charlie is in a long-term relationship with jewellery designer Morgana McNelis and said that friendship is always the best basis for a romance. He likes to treat the lady in his life when he can, and has a healthy sense of his own best assets.

“F**k you’re getting old. But you still look good,” he laughed, when asked what he thinks when he looks in the mirror.

Charlie Hunnam Teams With ‘American Sniper’ Scribe Jason Hall On Legendary’s ‘American Drug Lord’

DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD
Mike Fleming, Jr.
January 14, 2015

EXCLUSIVE: After completing a long run as the tragic motorcycle club leader on Sons Of Anarchy, Charlie Hunnam is going to play another character who gets lost in the drug trade. Legendary has acquired the 2011 Rolling Stone article American Drug Lord, and they have set American Sniper scribe Jason Hall to write the script as a potential star vehicle for Hunnam.

Legendary will produce with Plan B’s Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner and Hunnam. It is based on the story of Edgar Valdez, a high school football player from Texas who would become the only U.S. citizen to rise to the level of cartel leader in Mexico. From his base in Acapulco, Valdez, who brought the nickname La Barbie that was given him by his high school football coach, made $130 million in one year moving drugs from Colombia. He became increasingly feared and allegedly ratcheted up the violence that involved filming the brutal executions of rivals and posting them on the Internet. As the drug riches escalated along with the violence, the rival cartels turned on one another, with the help of crooked cops. Valdez’s life became a struggle to stay alive.

Tom Hiddleston Will Rule the Big Screen in 2015

MOVIES CHEAT SHEET
Michelle Regalado
January 4, 2015

Tom Hiddleston may currently be best known for his turn as a fan favorite villain from Marvel’s Thor series, but that’s all set to change over the course of the next year. Judging from the wide-ranging list of projects the actor is scheduled to take on in the coming months, it looks as if Hiddleston is about to rule 2015 the same way that many proclaimed fellow British actor Benedict Cumberbatch owned 2014.

As of now, Hiddleston has four movies set to hit the big screen in 2015, which span the genres — from biographical to horror. By far, the most well-known and highly anticipated of these projects is a little film called Avengers: Age of Ultron. The sequel to the hugely successful superhero franchise will feature the actor reprising his famous role as Thor’s evil brother, Loki, alongside other returning cast members Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson, among others. Though the blockbuster isn’t set to hit theaters until May, fans have been eagerly poring over details regarding the film’s plot and cast for months now, with excitement reaching a particular high after this summer’s Comic Con.3

While Age of Ultron will be the actor’s biggest movie to soon hit the screen, Hiddleston will also be moving well beyond the superhero role he’s most known for in the next year. Following the release of the Avengers sequel, the actor is also set to star in the forthcoming horror flick Crimson Peak, currently scheduled for release on October 16. While not as high-profile as the former, Crimson Peak has drawn public interest for its high-quality cast and creative team.3

Directed and written by prolific filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro, the project is set in a crumbling mansion in a rural region of northern England in the 19th century. Hiddleston stars as Sir Thomas Sharpe, the charming new husband to young author Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) who turns out not to be whom he appears to be. Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam also co-star.What do you think?

Another Hiddleston project drawing plenty of attention? The upcoming biopic, I Saw the Light, which is set to hit theaters sometime in 2015. The actor will be playing the titular role in the film, based on the 1994 book Hank Williams: The Biography, and he’s already started preparing. Hiddleston made headlines earlier this month for covering two different Williams’ songs during a surprise performance at Michigan’s Wheatland Music Festival. The resulting footage quickly went viral, and though there wasn’t enough to tell if he’d be able to do the country star justice, it was certainly enough to stir up all kinds of buzz for the film, which co-stars Elizabeth Olsen as Williams’s wife, Audrey Mae.

Get A First Glimpse At Tom Hiddleston And Mia Wasikowska In Crimson Peak

WE GOT THIS COVERED
By Gem Seddon on January 2nd, 2015

Guillermo Del Toro’s gothic haunted house caper, Crimson Peak, is primed to send shivers down our collective spines this October. Yes, that may be a long, LONG way off as we are only two days into the New Year, but luckily, a crop of scans from the latest issues of Total Film and Empire (via CBM) have landed online. This quartet of images offer us our first look at two of the main cast members: Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska.

tom hiddleston 2 crimson peak Get A First Glimpse At Tom Hiddleston And Mia Wasikowska In Crimson Peak

The leading foursome is rounded out by Jessica Chastain – who we saw decked out in full period garb last month – and Charlie Hunnam. While Hunnam’s the last to be granted a photo reveal, this new batch of pictures promise an equally spooky look for him as well.

mia wasikowska crimson peak Get A First Glimpse At Tom Hiddleston And Mia Wasikowska In Crimson Peak

In the first image, Hiddleston stands before a large wooden staircase, which is presumably the same flight we saw Chastain poised in front of last month. His second photo shows him swallowed by the enormity of the grand house, which appears to be on the dilapidated side of things. Wasikowska, on the other hand, looks suitably coiffed while clutching a candelabra in one pic, and revealing a lot of back in another.

Charlie Hunnam - **Spoiler Alert** Charlie Hunnam Cried At Emotional Sons Of Anarchy Scenes

CONTACT MUSIC
by WENN | 27 December 2014

Actor Charlie Hunnam broke down in tears as he shot his final Sons Of Anarchy scenes with his onscreen mother Katey Sagal after having to kill her character on TV.

Sagal tells People magazine, "It was very emotional in a beautiful way. Charlie Hunnam and I cried a lot. We would just hug each other because it was also goodbye for us after working together. We've all been in our own form of denial with the show ending. But there was no turning back."

Charlie Hunnam, Kurt Sutter on that Shocking 'Sons of Anarchy' Finale:

ABC

By MICHAEL ROTHMAN
Entertainment Reporter
via GOOD MORNING AMERICA

Sons-finale-03.jpg

SPOILERS AHEAD

You kind of had to see this coming, right?

Last night on the series finale of "Sons of Anarchy," Jax Teller, played by Charlie Hunnam, had his last ride and went out in a blaze of glory -- kind of.

After shooting and killing his mother last week, Jax said goodbye to his sons and farewell to his club. There were thoughts by fans that his own club would be his undoing, but alas his death was an event that was definitely a shock in the way it went down.

Jax met his death after being chased by police and intentionally driving his motorcycle into a truck driven by guest star Michael Chiklis, according to the Entertainment Weekly recap.

After the show, show creator Kurt Sutter and show star Hunnam went on "Anarchy Afterword" to talk about the ending after seven years on the air.

"It's the end of a little era for us," Hunnam said, according to E! News. "A lot of sleepless nights and bottles of tequila."

Hunnam, 34, continued about the ending, "We had talked about there being various potential versions of the ending in the beginning of the season and had a couple of conversations."

But Sutter, 50, decided to go with the ending where Jax would end his own life on his own terms. Also, the final ride for Jax mirrored his father's police chase that killed the senior Teller.

When Does Tom Hiddleston's 'Crimson Peak' Come Out? You'll Be Waiting a Long Time For the Film's Perfection

BUSTLE
MARTHA SORREN @MARTHASORREN
6 HOURS AGO ENTERTAINMENT

It seems like it’s been so long since fans have gotten to see Tom Hiddleston on the big screen. Thor 2 came out a whole year ago now, but, luckily, the actor’s had a busy year full of filming for various projects. So when can we expect to see Hiddleston’s latest movie Crimson Peak? Unfortunately, not for awhile. Director Guillermo Del Toro is being a perfectionist and, though the movie wrapped filming early last summer, it won’t be released until October 2015.

I’m sad that Hiddlestoners have to wait another year to see the actor on the big screen, especially since Crimson Peak sounds awesome. Hiddleston plays the sinister husband in the “anti-romance” flick, and I want that now — not a year from now.

Fans had held onto hope that we’d at least get a trailer soon, but Del Toro has dashed those dreams as well. Speaking to the Franchise Herald, he talked about how he’s taking his sweet time when it comes to putting out a preview for the film.

Well, since we have the luxury of time because the movie doesn’t come out until October next year… originally, I was going to deliver it in December, and I’d been able to try different things, different cuts, tweak the effects, tweak the music, probably more than any movie I’ve ever done. I have the license now to deliver the movie in January or February. It’s frankly addictive to have that much time.

Gold Derby Emmy MVP: Charlie Hunnam ('Sons of Anarchy') gives career-best performance

GOLD DERBY
By Marcus James Dixon
Nov 18 2014 22:08 Pm

So many secrets were revealed during the "Suits of Woe" episode of "Sons of Anarchy" that we wouldn't blame you for overlooking the career-best performance given by star Charlie Hunnam Tuesday night.

Accent aside, Hunnam's riveting, emotional performance as Jax Teller showed why this UK actor deserves his very first Emmy nomination. After seven years playing such a popular character, why has Hunnam never been nominated before by America's highest TV honor?

"Sons of Anarchy" viewers are used to seeing Hunnam playing the noble (yet troubled) President of the motorcycle club, yet he's never received any awards honors for his work. Surprisingly, besides a sole Critics' Choice TV Award nomination in 2012, Hunnam hasn't been nominated for anything else.

Written by Peter Elkoff, Mike Daniels and creator Kurt Sutter and directed by Peter Weller, "Suits of Woe" was the episode that "SoA" fans have been waiting for all year. Jax finally discovered the truth behind his wife's murder as Gemma (Katey Sagal) bolted from Charming to parts unknown. How will this reveal affect the story going forward? That's to be determined.

Can Hunnam break through at the 2015 Emmys to receive his first nomination as Best Drama Actor for "Sons of Anarchy"? Let's consider the factors working for and against this Gold Derby Emmy MVP.

Charlie Hunnam: Doing Fifty Shades Right After Sons of Anarchy Would Have Been a "F---ing Disaster"

US WEEKLY
Entertainment Nov. 11, 2014 AT 10:35PM By Allison Takeda

You gotta do what you gotta do — or not do, as the case may be. Fans were shocked when Charlie Hunnam walked away from the Fifty Shades of Grey movie just a few weeks after his casting had been made public, but he says he had a good reason. Speaking about the decision in a new interview with Men's Health, the Sons of Anarchy actor said that the shooting schedule would have compromised his ability to fully commit to the role.

"I was going to finish playing a psychopath who'd just lost his wife [in Sons], and five days later I'd be on set playing Christian Grey," the hunky 34-year-old told the mag for its December issue. "I was like, 'This is going to be a f---ing disaster.' It was the opposite of how I've tried to ground my career, not stretch myself too thin, and always do my homework."

Hunnam further explained that "there's a tendency in this Hollywood machinery to take on too much. You end up not being able to give everything you want." He learned early on that that kind of lifestyle doesn't work for him. "Since I was young, I've been aware that I need time to myself to process everything," he told Men's Health.

‘Sons of Anarchy’s’ Charlie Hunnam to Star in ‘A Prayer Before Dawn’

VARIETY
Leo Barraclough
October 31, 2014

“Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam is attached to head-line in true-life Thai kick-boxing prison thriller “A Prayer Before Dawn” with Jean-Stephane Sauvaire (“Johnny Mad Dog”) on board to direct.

HanWay Films will launch worldwide sales at AFM, where “Prayer” will aim to satisfy the buyer’s appetite for commercial crossover genre fare in the vein of “Drive” and “The Raid.”

Sauvaire has started casting former prisoners who were Muay Thai champions in Thailand, where shooting will start in summer 2015. Hunnam is already in training for the Muay Thai sequences.

The film will be produced by ex-Wild Bunch exec Rita Dagher’s new company Senorita Films and Hurricane Films duo Sol Papadopoulos and Roy Boulter, who previously optioned the material. The screenplay is by Nick Saltrese, based on the book by Billy Moore.

Pic tells the true-life story of Billy Moore’s incarceration in one of Thailand’s most barbaric prisons — Klong Prem, the notorious Bangkok Hilton. In a system where life has no value, Moore discovers the deadly martial art of Muay Thai Boxing, and begins fighting for his freedom in the ring. It is the story of a man’s descent into hell and his journey back to redemption.

Sauvaire said: “‘A Prayer Before Dawn’ is — at one and the same time — a true story, a prison drama, a survival movie, a desperate love story, and an extraordinary tale of redemption. Above all, it is a poignant and uniquely human story.”

‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7: Charlie Hunnam, Jimmy Smits, more heading to ‘Conan’

CARTERMATT
October 30, 2014

While the series finale for “Sons of Anarchy” is getting close to wrapping up as we speak, there are already some plans being set for some promotional appearances after the fact.

With that, we bring to you some of the following news when it comes to Conan O’Brien’s late-night show. On November 11, Charlie Hunnam, Jimmy Smits, Tommy Flanagan, Mark Boone Junior, and Drea de Matteo are all going to appear alongside creator Kurt Sutter. This is the largest group that has ever come together for the show to do a late-night appearance to date.

Could this be a little too massive or confusing? We doubt it. Conan’s a skilled (and funny) moderator, and has already done something like this with “The Walking Dead.”

The timing here is also interesting for a simple reason here, mostly that in theory, “Sons of Anarchy” could still be on air when “Conan” starts. Luckily, we imagine that the TBS show will ensure that the cast appearance is not on the air until after the tenth episode of season 7 finishes up. Sutter and the editors have a habit of making some of their episodes run extremely long, with them going for a full 90 minutes often during this final season.

'Crimson Peak' News: 2015 Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam Film Is 'Looking Good,' Got Great Response At Screening — Will We See A Trailer Soon?

FASHION & STYLE

We're still waiting to see the "Crimson Peak" trailer, narrated by star Tom Hiddleston, which aired at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, but we've gotten a few juicy tidbits about the film over the past few months.

For starters, it's the reason director Guillermo del Toro dropped out of Warner Bros. upcoming adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast".

"[Warner Bros.] have a deadline to meet with the project that completely intersects with my delivery of 'Crimson Peak'," del Toro explained. "And 'Crimson Peak' I cannot rush. I am probably the proudest of this movie of anything that I’ve ever done. I want to be very meticulous."

The director also offered up some information about the film Comic-Con.

"It’s a gothic romance," he said, just before introducing the trailer. "It’s R-rated. It has incredible beauty, but it’s also very violent." He later added that the movie will feature "scary ghosts, but scarier people than ghosts," and that he was glad for the opportunity to create a "great adult story for a female lead."

More recently, Charlie Hunnam, who plays Dr. Alan McMichael in "Crimson Peak" gave some insight into his character.

"Yeah, really different," he revealed, when asked if the role is a departure from the status quo for him. "It’s kind of a very sweet, shy, quiet, dorky dude who doesn’t get the girl."

34 things you learn on the 'Sons of Anarchy' set

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
By Mandi Bierly on Oct 10, 2014 at 2:52PM   @ewmandibierly

Spend close to 20 hours on location and set with the cast and crew of Sons of Anarchy, and you learn a few fun facts. EW‘s recent cover story (read it online) reveals some of them: among the objects in Charlie Hunnam’s backpack is a marijuana grinder; Katey Sagal is happy to talk about Justin Theroux’s jogging attire on The Leftovers. Here are 34 other things gleaned from EW‘s September visit.

IN THE MAKEUP TRAILER

• When you catch Tommy Flanagan (Chibs) singing “Hurt” on his way in at 6:30 a.m., it’s definitely the Johnny Cash version. “Of course, the Johnny Cash version,” he says later. “I mean Nine Inch Nails, fair enough, they did a great version, but Johnny killed it.”

• Everyone knows the fun begins when Kim Coates (Tig) arrives. On this day, he starts a lively conversation suggesting he’ll wear a Speedo to the show’s premiere screening that weekend. He and Flanagan claim they’ve never worn a Speedo, but Hunnam admits to having donned one as a child.

• The show’s head of makeup, Tracey Anderson, has it out for Abel. She barely lets Hunnam sit down in her chair at 6:50 a.m. before asking him if he thinks Abel is behind something bad in the script they received the previous night.

Anderson: I know he’s psycho. I really want it to be him.

Hunnam: I know you do. (Laughs)

Makeup artist Sabine Taylor: I’m afraid you’re overestimating what a little boy like that is capable of.

Anderson: If he’s a sociopath…

David Labrava (Happy): I think Abel [redacted], but Abel didn’t [redacted].

Anderson: I haven’t liked that kid since day one.

• Anderson holds the speed record for bullet wounds. “I time her,” makeup artist Michelle Garbin says. “One time she did six bullets in six minutes, in a pit, in the middle of the night.” (“I just wanted to get out of the pit,” Anderson says.) After seven seasons on the show, Anderson has grace under pressure: “When I started, I’d read the script and be like, ‘Ohmygod, they’re gonna have a slight cut over their eye.’ I’d get all worried about it. ‘We need them back in the trailer for 20 minutes!’ Now it’s like, ‘Whatever, we’ll just do it on set,'” she says.

• The makeup trailer has a “Blood Wall,” pictured below, which they stopped adding victims to seasons ago. “They would come in and be like, ‘I’m on the wall!’ They’d be so proud. But now it’s too much of a spoiler,” Anderson says. “There’s just too many people in here taking pictures. And people we have come in to work, they’re not caught up to the episodes, so it spoils it for them. They don’t want to see it.”

AT A SAMCRO SHOOTOUT AT STEVENSON RANCH IN CALIFORNIA’S SANTA CLARITA VALLEY

• Everyone is thrilled that Hunnam got cast as the lead in Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur project. At 7:45 a.m., when members of SAMCRO emerge from the van carrying them from base camp to the ranch house that the club will approach in the first scene of the day, the actors are wearing Burger King crowns. Co-executive producer Charles Murray, who’s directing the episode, made a special trip through the drive-thru for the prank because he’s proud of Hunnam. “I think a lot of people overlook the work because they’re so caught up in how beautiful he is. I don’t know if you’ve seen that Calvin Klein commercial—that’s a good lookin’ boy,” Murray says later laughing. “But that’s the same thing that happened to Paul Newman. I think he’s got a huge future ahead of him. A long, long, sturdy career.”

• Hunnam has a good sense of humor. Not only does he chuckle at his costars shouting that they’re “the king’s bodyguards” while Murray snaps photos, but he also asks if EW would like to have a laugh watching him undergo “nose hair extraction” in the house’s front yard. “That’s the worst part about getting old,” the 34-year-old insists afterward with tears in his eyes.

• The actors are aware that everyone SAMCRO goes up against is an extraordinarily bad shot.
Flanagan: It’s another A-Team moment where there’s a million bullets, and no one gets killed. (Sings A-team theme song) It’s guns like this. Look. (Bends his prop gun) Bendy. We shoot around corners.
Coates: What season was that, two maybe, where we had all the KKK boys and us in a backyard situation. We were 10 yards away from each other and we all went (Makes automatic gun sound), not one of us got hit. We kept going, “Are we whole?” “We’re whole.” “Are we whole?” “We’re whole.” Ridiculous.

• Six weapons firing on set is a slow day. “The gunfire’s actually not that huge today compared to what we usually do. We had an episode where we had like 25 people with full automatic weapons besides another 10 to 20 people with handguns. So it was loud. I think one of my ears still works,” Boyle says. “So come back. We’re gonna have some fun before it’s all said and done. I promise you that.”

• Happy really shouldn’t have a cell signal in this scene. Just saying.

• The name Swayze is “Viking Irish.” Don Swayze, who’s guesting in this episode as the angry redneck shooting at the club, tells the Scottish Flanagan about his ancestry during a break.

• Hunnam still wears Jax’s bullet necklace. Hunnam bends down to pick up a blank shell and asks if you’d like a souvenir. Yes, and you’re going to make a necklace out of it. He pulls Jax’s bullet necklace out of his shirt and notes that it’s missing a couple stones around the diamond-crusted tip.

• The one thing the guys definitely won’t miss about Sons is filming long days in 100 degrees. “We used to call it doing ‘the timber.’ We’d lose a crew member a week from passing out. Boom. Gone,” Coates says. Even Flanagan was sent off to the hospital once to get an IV (“It was the day after the season 3 premiere, I think. I was hung over,” he admits). Umbrella holders try to shield them between takes, but the guys take cover wherever they find it. Since Hunnam was treated for lyme disease last year after an unplanned hike in the Scottish Highlands, he’s hyper aware of “tick-y” areas. You’ll catch him lying down on the couch inside the house, prop gun in hand. Flanagan opts for a leather chair and keeps his weapon on his lap. Coates, meanwhile, stretches out in the bed of the rusted old truck Tig and Happy take cover behind when the bullets fly. Around 4 p.m., the guys watch Hunnam drink a vial of what he later describes as “untreated, unheated ocean water from some f–king kelp forest somewhere.” Actually, it’s something a hot yoga instructor recommended he drink to quickly replenish his body, and he finds it also works when he’s sweating all day in Jax’s cut and working on five hours sleep. (In addition to prepping for today’s scenes, he spent three hours last night doing email interviews, including one for Calvin Klein that asked him to name the sexiest thing about fall.)

• There’s already a reunion in the works.*
