Benedict Cumberbatch

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch had "a moment" while taping a recent episode of a British chat show when his hero Harrison Ford told him he was a big fan.

The two actors were sitting side by side on The Graham Norton Show when Ford turned to the Star Trek: Into Darkness star and handed him a huge chunk of praise.

The Star Wars icon said, "I didn't get a chance to say what a big fan I am of yours... The Sherlock Holmes thing is amazing."

A visibly stunned Cumberbatch responded, "Thank you very much. Wow, that's a bit of a moment. Thank you very much."

The Sherlock star then stood up and quipped, "I can retire now, I'm going."

Episode VII Rumor Says Ewan McGregor Will Play Obi-Wan Again

Latest Star Wars: Episode VII Rumor Says Ewan McGregor Will Play Obi-Wan Again image

CINEMA BLEND

Author: Katey Rich | published: 2013-08-16 12:24:46

If you want to start your own Star Wars rumor, now is the time. With nothing officially confirmed about the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII beyond the director and writer, there's a limitless universe full of story options, and any rumor can be treated as fact because, hey, who knows what might happen. And fresh off some specious talk that Emperor Palpatine might appear in Episode VII comes a new rumor of a familiar face who might bring back The Force.

So what hard proof do we have? None. And it's been like that for every Star Wars rumor we've fielded since the project was announced last fall, from the Ryan Gosling casting news to talk of Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill reprising their roles. It's all talk, as notoriously secretive director J.J. Abrams preps the project to shoot in England early next year and keeps the lid on his "mystery box" to the point that there were booing fans at Disney's D23 convention last weekend. Ewan McGregor's potential return isn't exactly the kind of news fans have been salivating for all these years… but hey, it would be a start. At this point if Abrams and company would even confirm a title it would be progress.

Set Visit Preview: Kenneth Branagh and Chris Pine are rebooting 'Jack Ryan' KEVIN COSTNER NOTES WHY PINE IS PERFECT FOR THE TOM CLANCY HERO By Daniel Fienberg MONDAY, JAN 7, 2013 12:03 PM (HIT FIX)

LONDON - If franchise rebooting were hip-hop, Jack Ryan would be the Sugar Hill Gang -- maybe not the first on the block, but certainly far enough ahead of the curve to look cool.

Tom Clancy's dogged CIA analyst, whose rise in the literary series would take him all the way to the White House, was played by a svelte Alec Baldwin in "Hunt For Red October," became Harrison Ford for a couple '90s hits and then was embodied by Ben Affleck in "Sum of All Fears."

It's early October in London and Jack Ryan is being rebirthed for a new generation under the careful watch of director Kenneth Branagh and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, as well as producer Mace Neufeld, who has had a hand in each of the franchise's previous incarnations.

The first of his adventures not to be based on a Clancy novel, this origin story is simply titled "Jack Ryan" and, on the film's set, those the producers tease a plot that they mostly promise will be contemporary.

"Our world right now faces incredible economic uncertainty," hints di Bonaventura. "The notion of what is a superpower has evolved and who actually can carry what muscle and what is America's role in the world and a terrorism and all those things exist in this movie. It feels incredibly contemporary, particularly the economic aspect of it and the sense that a lot of the larger kinda 'earthquake' moves that precipitate this movie have to do with the fact of what is the economic order and who's trying to take control over it. So it's not a movie about economics, but the effect of what is going on in the world is very, very driven and very, very clear in this movie, the relationship with that."

Adds David Barron, "It's a very real central premise to the story and it's something that, when you do get to know what that central premise is, if you think back there was something in the news quite recently where two international superpowers were... somebody contemplated the very thing that's happening in our story... It's very real, very contemporary and a lot of fun."

All of the producers credit Branagh's involvement, hot off of "Thor," with kick-starting the long-gestating project, while he, in turn, tips his hat to a script so juicy it even made him want to take a key supporting role.

Kenneth Branagh and Chris Pine bring Liverpool's Strand to standstill with dramatic car chase filming By Gemma JaleelSep 19 2012 (LIVERPOOL ECHO)

THE HOLLYWOOD touch transformed parts of Liverpool last night as Kenneth Branagh and Chris Pine began another night of film shoots for new blockbuster Jack Ryan.

Production company August Street Films Ltd, based at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, were filming car chase sequences for the movie based on the Tom Clancy spy novels.

The city was transformed into an international backdrop for the fast-paced spy movie Jack Ryan.

With New York Police Department cars and Russian shop frontage and street signs, the city took on a definite international feel.

Directed by Branagh and featuring Pride and Prejudice star Keira Knightley, the film will see Star Trek actor Chris Pine reprise the role of CIA agent Jack Ryan.

The role was previously played on the big screen by Ben Affleck, Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford.

Pine was seen taking directions from Branagh yesterday evening as the second night of filming got under way.

Keira Knightley Joins Chris Pine In Kenneth Branagh’s “Jack Ryan” Movie (FLICKS AND BITS)

Keira Knightley has landed the female lead opposite Chris Pine in Kenneth Branagh’s yet-to-be titled “Jack Ryan” thriller. Chris Pine takes on  the classic Tom Clancy character, who has previously been played in novel-to-screen adaptations by Alec Baldwin in ’The Hunt for Red October,’ by Harrison Ford in both ’Patriot Games’ and ‘Clear and Present Danger,’ and finally by Ben Affleck in ‘The Sum of All Fears.’ The story for this film centers on ex-Marine and Moscow-based financial analyst Jack Ryan (Chris Pine), who uncovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the US economy. Ryan must race against time to save America and his wife (Keira Knightley).

Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones And Evangeline Lilly In The Running For The Jack Ryan Reboot 1 Comment published: 2012-08-01 22:44:15 Author: Eric Eisenberg (CINEMA BLEND)

For years Chris Pine sat alone as the only cast member attached to the upcoming Jack Ryan reboot. While the actor has been attached to the project since October 2009, it has undergone so many delays that it has never been able to pick up any other stars. That is finally starting to change, however. Last month it was revealed that not only will Kenneth Branagh be directing the movie, but he will be playing the central villain as well, and now there are reports that the search for the film's female lead has been narrowed down to three actresses.

Deadline says that Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones and Evangeline Lilly are all being considered to play a lead in the upcoming action film. Of the group, Knightley is considered the frontrunner, though the other two are very much in the mix.

Our 9 Favorite Threesomes (in Movies) By Ben Freiburger | Apr 11, 2012 | 12:00 PM (NEXT MOVIE)

No, we don't mean it that way! Get your mind out of the gutter, pervs.

In honor of the return of "The Three Stooges" (April 13), we're obviously talking about how it seems like the best star vehicles have three wheels.

Occasionally, a fourth wannabe will try to awkwardly insert himself into the ménage à trois (witness poor Ernie Hudson in "Ghostbusters"), but history's proven that a triad has always struck a chord with audiences. So, sticking with that agreed-upon equation, here's a list of nine trios that prove that, as Schoolhouse Rock taught us, three really is a magic number.

# 9. Will, Elizabeth and Captain Jack in the 'The Pirates of the Caribbean' Series (2003-11) Disney
Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) are one of those couples that would be -- let's face it -- sort of boring. So while they might act otherwise, you just know they totally get off on keeping company with the likes of weirdo Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). Sure, he's always showing up needing help with his debts, and kind of ruined their wedding. But he's a real hoot and half and a heck of a lot more entertaining than yet another bridge night at the country club.

#1. Harry, Ron and Hermione in the 'Harry Potter' Series (2001-11) Warner Bros.
Don't we all wish the subjects forced upon us in school seemed applicable in everyday life? Perhaps the appeal of the "Harry Potter" series is that these three friends got to live out every kid's dream: going to classes that teach useful information like how to fly brooms or cause your enemy to dance against her will. In little more than a decade, these Hogwart alums have gone from near obscurity to becoming the heroes of one of the most beloved stories of all time.
