SUPERMAN FLYING HIGH WORLDWIDE: ‘Man Of Steel’ Opens With $21M Late Shows; Begins Global Release With Asian Records (DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD)
By NIKKI FINKE,
Editor in Chief | Friday June 14, 2013 @ 7:26am PDT
Editor in Chief | Friday June 14, 2013 @ 7:26am PDT
FRIDAY 7 AM UPDATE: Not even torrential downpours in NYC could dampen enthusiastic crowds forming long lines for Thursday late shows. Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures just announced its hotly anticipated Man Of Steel opened with a midnight show of $9 million
Combined with $12M from a corporate group sale screening program at 7 PM, this third Superman franchise begins its North American run with a cume of $21M. “Off to a flying start!!!” A studio exec gushed to me just now. The number ranks 7th among late show records, behind only the Harry Potter and Twilight franchises, but ahead of The Hunger Games. It’s also the all-time highest superhero late show record, surpassing The Avengers’ remarkable $18.7M and The Dark Knight‘s $18.5M.
The more equal comparison would be June 2005′s Batman Begins which was the first of the trilogy and grossed $1.6M at midnight while June 2006′s Superman Returns reboot made $4.9M and July 2012′s The Amazing Spider-Man redo earned $7.5M. Of course, any such record must come with an asterisk because Hollywood studios recently have interpreted ‘midnights’ as beginning at 7 PM Thursday through midnight and sometimes into early dawn. So that prevents any accurate movie-to-movie direct comparison of late show grosses. IMAX hauled in $1.6M domestic from Man Of Steel late shows from 327 North American locations.
This third Superman franchise goes wide today in a whopping 4,207 locations which is the 2nd widest release ever for a non-sequel: 850 are 2D only, and the remaining venues will play in 3D with a 2D component. Tracking has ranged from Warner Bros’ lowball $80sM aimed a managing expectations to rival studio projections around $95M-$100M. According to both fandango and MovieTickets.com, domestic advance ticket sales accounted for over 85% of total daily transactions Thursday and today. (“That percentage would have been higher if it weren’t for This Is The End doing 7% of sales today,” says Fandango’s Harry Medved.) Still, even with a longish running time of two hours and 23 minutes, the Chris Nolan-Zack Snyder-David S. Goyer-Henry Cavill tentpole Man Of Steel could pack an unexpectedly stronger punch because of the 3D premium and immense wannasee.
It’s almost guaranteed to set a new opening weekend record for the month of June. Superman’s last big screen outing was Superman Returns with a very mediocre five-day opening of $84.6M that stopped Warner Bros from ordering up a sequel. But it scored higher positive reviews of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes than Man Of Steel‘s surprisingly middling 58% seven years later. Then again, this is a critics-proof pic after it took Christopher Nolan’s involvement to make Superman cool again (finally) even though it’s a feel-good movie where the man of steel must save the day against Michael Shannon’s villainous General Zod. And the studio’s masterful marketing campaign filled with mystery (that first teaser barely featured the Metropolis Marvel) really caught the imagination of anyone ever enamored of one of the most popular DC Comics characters ever.

Henry Cavill Talks Justice League (CRAVE ON LINE)
Man of Steel himself Henry Cavill offers some thoughts on those much discussed, but not very official sounding plans for a Justice League movie.
May 31st, 2013 Jason Kobely
Today was the press conference for Man of Steel. After 45 minutes of hearing Henry Cavill, his costars and filmmakers discuss the long-awaited Superman movie, I approached Cavill as the press conference broke to ask about the next stage for Superman. Before trailers were even out for Man of Steel, reports had Warner Brothers planning a Justice League movie based on this Superman.
Cavill said he was open to reprising the role of Kal-El in not just another Superman movie, but in the DC team-up prospect too.
“Of course I’m open to it, very much open to it, but I have no idea what plans are for that,” Cavill said. “I’m not privy to that kind of information. I think it would be a lot of fun to explore the character further and a continuing journey, but I know nothing about those plans so far.”
Reports of a Justice League plan may be exaggerated. Certainly, news broke that Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer were tapped to produce it, and then that was taken back. Cavill could only confirm that Justice League thoughts popped up on the Man of Steel set.

Henry Cavill in Man of Steel

The latest TV spot for Man of Steel continues the trend of focusing on one character, this time it's Kevin Costner that offers up some words of wisdom for his adopted Kryptonian son, Clark (Henry Cavill), as alien ships blast the Earth with blue lazer beams (that's new) and Superman gets all ROARRRR as he zips around the atmosphere and into Lois Lane's (Amy Adams) arms.

MAN OF STEEL (2013) IS ALL ZACK SNYDER'S MOVIE SAYS HENRY CAVILL WHILE IN JAPAN CBN Posted by: Matt McGloin, Editor/Publisher
New Superman Henry Cavill has just returned from Japan along with girlfriend Gina Carano where he stayed for a few days while promoting the new Man of Steel movie.
It what first was said to be an official visit - then an unofficial visit - it now seems as if, indeed, Henry Cavill was there to talk all things Superman as we learn the actor conducted interviews for the Man of Steel which are embargoed and will be released later at some point.
However, one Japanese journalist managed to squeeze a tease out through Twitter where Henry Cavill was asked whose style the movie would be like, director Zack Snyder or producer Christopher Nolan?
Here's the translated tweets (via Man of Steel Fan Facebook)
Interview with ‘Man of Steel’ Henry Cavill. Great, because as soon as he enters the room, you feel ‘wow, it’s Superman’. Under a gagging clause, I finally manage to slip in “will the finish be Nolan style or Snyder style?”, to which I get “Snyder style, but it will be much more realistic than before.

Henry Cavill: Major 'Man Of Steel' Rumor/Spoiler Looks Like It Might Be True NEWS BY KEVIN JAGERNAUTH (INDIEWIRE)
We shouldn't have to tell you, but fair warning and don't cry if you keep on reading past this: there will be major spoilers below. If you don't want "Man Of Steel" ruined for the love of God stop reading right here.
With that preamble out of the way, it just a day or so ago that writer David S. Goyer was deflecting questions about whether or not a female version of Jimmy Olsen or baddie Lex Luthor would be appearing in the Christopher Nolan produced, Zack Snyder directed "Man Of Steel." He would neither confirm nor deny, so of course, that just set the geeks to dig harder, and over at AICN, it seems they've put together the puzzle pieces that indeed seem to reveal that Lex Luthor will have some kind of appearance in the Superman movie.

Henry Cavill: New Superman movie will be 'realistic' like Batman trilogy Writer David S Goyer compares his Superman reboot to Christopher Nolan's Batman movies (NME)
The writer of new Superman movie Man Of Steel has compared the reboot to Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy.
David S Goyer scripted Man Of Steel based on a story he devised with Nolan, who also serves as a producer on the Superman reboot. Goyer and Nolan previously worked together on the stories for Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
Continuing, Goyer revealed that "this doesn't necessarily mean we will make a dark movie", but insisted that it does stop the script being "cartoonish". He explained: "Working on this reboot, we are thinking about what would happen if a story like this one actually happened. How would people react to this? What impact would the presence of Superman in the real world have?"

Christian Bale Arrives to Aurora, Colorado to Visit Victims of 'The Dark Knight Rises' Theater Shooting (LATINOS POST)
Actor Christian Bale arrived to Aurora, Colorado on Tuesday (July 24) in order to visit and support victims, their family members, of the recent theater shootings that occurred last Friday at the screening of the new movie 'The Dark Knight Rises'.
According to ABC, Bale was seen at the Medical Center of Aurora where he was heard addressing himself to the patients.
The Batman actor may have been prompted to visit the area after online petitions were posted on Change.org during the weekend.
"Words cannot express the horror that I feel," said Bale in a statement released on Saturday by his spokeswoman, Jennifer Allen. "I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them."
Other cast members of the movie such as Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, and also director Christopher Nolan sent their condolences as well.

Michael Fassbender is James Bond ; Very neat mash-up video presenting Michael Fassbender as the next JAMES BOND. Again, Youtube is better than the actual movie
Here's a YouTube mashup that is a little too much fun to ignore: Michael Fassbender as secret agent 007 in Christopher Nolan's James Bond (as edited together by one inspired internet film enthusiast).
Industry prognosticators have suggested that Skyfall will be Daniel Craig's final go as 007, so speculation has already begun as to who'll replace him. There ain't a person alive who isn't delighted to have Fassbender taking more prominent roles in Hollywood, and the time is nigh for him to land a major franchise where he's the star. (Magneto doesn't count; he may be the best performer in those films, but when January Jones is in a white fur hat and go-go boots it's hard to determine who's the real star.)

“Christian Bale” Shares About “The Dark Night Rises”
Published on November 24, 2011 by Eugene Ernest
The English actor Christian Bale shares some of the details on his upcoming super hero movie The Dark Night Rises, Meanwhile Bale is busy currently making the press rounds for Zhang Yimou’s The Flowers of War, but makes out some time for us to know about the upcoming Batman Saga.
Just a small loop about the Zhang’s film, in which Bale plays a Jesuit priest who takes refugees into his cathedral as the invading Japanese Imperial Army takes over Nanking in 1937. However getting onto the next bat movie Bale says upcoming film will explore Bruce Wayne’s motivations, and he explains it stating “how long will you let the pain and loss define your life? Walking around chasing bad guys is very heroic and attracts attention, but at the end it all accounts for, as a means to deal with the pain of a huge loss.
He continues to explain what will the last installment be about in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy will have Bruce Wayne finally exploring the pain he’s been running from, Bale states we agreed that Bruce Wayne is absolutely sincere as Bruce Wayne, and as Batman utterly sincere, but Bruce Wayne, the playboy, is a pure frontage, it’s a lie he has, somehow, to have power over one side of your person that’s not really under control. In fact, only Alfred knows who he is. It’s time for Bruce Wayne to face the pain that has always stirred his life.
The new film The Flowers of War has got a strong line-up and it’s a powerful story that would definitely have an Oscar-qualifying run at the end of the year and is China’s submission for Best Foreign Film. And after the final combination of Nolan and Bale, who would you expect to be the next Batman and director.

Man Of Steel begins Chicago shoot as Michael Shannon reveals role nerves
Michael Shannon, one of the stars of the Superman: Man of Steel film, has confessed to being nervous about taking on the role of General Zod.
'I just started working on it and all I can say is it's very well written and there are a lot of great opportunities to reinvent it for myself. The challenge is for me to do that,' he said.
'There's nothing holding me back and I think they're counting on me to give my interpretation so I'll do the best I can.'
Christopher Nolan, who is responsible for the rejuvenation of the Batman franchise, is producing the new Superman film, which many are hoping will see the tale of the popular superhero receive a psychologically dark makeover.
Henry Cavill will be squeezing into the lycra catsuit to tackle the role of Superman, with Enchanted star Amy Adams starring alongside him as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner starring as the eponymous hero's adoptive parents.
