As well as Whitaker returning to a leading role, 'The Butler' boasts one of the more spectacular casts of the year, including Robin Williams (Dwight Eisenhower), John Cusack (Richard Nixon), James Marsden (JFK), Liev Schreiber (Lydon B. Johnson), Alan Rickman (Reagan), Cuba Gooding Jr (Carter Wilson). David Oyelowo (Loius Gaines) and Oprah Winfrey (Gloria Gaines) are among the supporting cast though this one appears to be set up for Whitaker.

Alan Rickman has three new movies in 2013 (EXAMINER)

Gainesville viewers will have the opportunity to see three new Alan Rickman movies in 2013. Mr. Rickman is best know for his roles as professor Snape in the Harry Potter series.

Alan Rickman will play Lionel Shahbandar in the 1966 remake of the movie Gambit. The film will also feature Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz. The original movie starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine.

Also scheduled to be released next year is The Butler. This film tells the story of the man who served as butler for eight presidents in the White House. Mr. Rickman will be playing Ronald Reagan, while Jane Fonda will be his wife, Nancy. The film also stars Robin Williams as Dwight Eisenhower, and John Cusack as Richard Nixon.

The Weinstein Company has acquired distribution rights for The Butler, the upcoming ensemble drama from Precious director Lee Daniels. The film  stars Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey, John Cusack, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Terrence Howard, Lenny Kravitz, Melissa Leo, James Marsden, Vanessa Redgrave, Alan Rickman, Liev Schreiber and Robin Williams. No release date has been announced.

The Butler follows an African-American man (Whitaker) who served as a butler in the White House for more than thirty years, tending to eight Presidents. The all-star cast will play various public figures, including Schreiber as Lyndon B. Johnson, Rickman as Ronald Reagan and Williams as Dwight Eisenhower.

“The Butler,” Lee Daniels’s film about an African American man who acted as White House butler over the course of multiple decades, may have found its Ronald Reagan.  Alan Rickman, the British actor perhaps best known for his roles in “Die Hard” and the “Harry Potter” films, has reportedly been cast as the 40th president of the United States, according to items in The Hollywood Reporter and Vulture. Yes, you read that correctly: Reagan may very well be played by Severus Snape.

Democrats are no doubt doing lunch food spit-takes as they read this and recall that the role of Rickman/Reagan’s wife has been claimed by the previously cast Jane Fonda. The Reagans, brought to you by Harry Potter’s frequent nemesis and the uber-liberal Fonda? Republicans surely can’t be happy about this.

To be fair, Rickman is a fine actor capable of great performances far beyond the walls of Hogwarts. He brings more to the table than his Snapeness. And “The Butler” is not about President Reagan. It’s about Eugene Allen, the Virginia man who worked in the White House for eight administrations and was profiled in The Washington Post by our own Wil Haygood. Since garnering widespread notice and acclaim with his Oscar-winning tearjerker Precious, writer-director Lee Daniels has set his sights on even more ambitious endeavors. His upcoming feature, The Paperboy, will make its world premiere later this month at the Cannes Film Festival, where IM Global will be shopping his next sure-to-be star-studded film, The Butler. Based on a Washington Post article that revealed the storied career of African-American White House butler Eugene Allen, the biopic will chart the evolution of politics and race relations through the terms of eight presidents beginning in 1952 with Harry S. Truman.

Forest Whitaker will headline the historical drama, playing the title role. Also on board are Paperboy star John Cusack, Jane Fonda, and Oprah Winfrey. But Daniels is looking to stuff his revolving door White House with stars, and THR reveals Cusack's Paperboy co-star Matthew McConaughey, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard and Alan Rickman are said to be up for The Butler. At this time there's no word on what roles these new potential additions to the cast may play.

Yes, it’s true: Jane Fonda will play Nancy Reagan in a movie about the butler who served several presidents in the White House. Variety reported it yesterday because yours truly was asked to hold off reporting it for a day. (Won’t do that again.)

My scoop: Alan Rickman, the fine British actor known to children everywhere as the evil Snape from “Harry Potter,” will likely be Ronald Reagan to Jane’s Nancy. Rickman has a wonderful sneer to bring to his role.

NBC will broadcast the 2012 Golden Globe Awards directly from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on Sunday, January 15, 5-8 p.m. (PT)/8-11 p.m.

(ET). Ricky Gervais will once again serve as host (and roaster). Nominees range from Woody Allen to Madonna, from Asghar Farhadi's A Separation to Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin, from Maggie Smith to Amy Poehler. [Golden Globes 2012 winners here tomorrow.]

Among the presenters confirmed for 2012 Golden Globe awards are Antonio Banderas, Jessica Biel, Jimmy Fallon, Salma Hayek, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Brad Pitt, Natalie Portman, and Reese Witherspoon.

Also: Madonna, Channing Tatum, Jane Fonda, Harrison Ford, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp, Colin Firth, Robert Downey Jr., Jake Gyllenhaal, Melissa McCarthy, Clive Owen, and Freida Pinto. (Surprisingly missing from the list of presenters are Daniel Radcliffe and Robert Pattinson. The Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 star has a new movie coming out soon, The Woman in Black; the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 star has his own movie coming out — at least in the United Kingdom — in a few weeks, Bel Ami.)

Now, how to watch the Golden Globes online? Before going anywhere, the best option is to head to NBC's official Golden Globes' website to find out if NBC will be live-streaming the ceremony online. If I remember it correctly, two or three years ago, the ceremony was live-streamed online. (Last year it was not.)

Else, there are several sites such as UStream, TV.com, and Justin.tv that may offer user-generated streams showing the ceremony. Bear in mind that many of those may be both of dubious legality and poor quality. But don't despair: the Golden Globes will be shown live on TV in dozens of countries. You'll surely have better luck — and a better viewing experience — by checking out your local television schedule and tuning in at the appropriate time.

And here are a couple more ways of watching the Golden Globes 2012 online: the Golden Globes' official Facebook page. Jessica Alba will be blogging the awards show live and there may be clips posted on the site as well. Hulu.com may also offer clips from the ceremony.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) -December 7, 2011 (WPVI) -- For the 20th consecutive year, Hollywood's most powerful women broke bread at the Beverly Hills Hotel to celebrate their achievements in entertainment.

Former Paramount Pictures chief Sherry Lansing lauded her friend Jane Fonda on Wednesday for her pioneering work in film, fitness, philanthropy and activism.

Actress Kirsten Dunst and Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal presented a tribute to Laura Ziskin. The late filmmaker and Stand Up To Cancer founder helped raise more than $180 million for research before succumbing to the disease in June.

"The Help" author Kathryn Stockett and stars Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer saluted Hollywood's future female talents: 12 Los Angeles-area high school juniors who will be mentored by female entertainment executives for the next year.

Chelsea Handler and Kate Bosworth also attended the event.
