Ioan Gruffudd: Ringer Season 1-18 ‘That Woman’s Never Been A Victim Her Entire Life’ Recap (WE GOT THIS COVERED)

Posted March 24, 2012 by Lindsay Sperling in TV

Ringer picks up right where it left off, not skipping a beat. Andrew (Ioan Gruffudd) has been shot. Bridget (Sarah Michelle Gellar) is holding onto him as if his life depends on it, and it just very well might. Solomon (Sean Patrick Thomas) has been hit over the head and makes it downstairs in time for Agent Machado (Nestor Carbonell) to rush onto the scene.

Agent Machado is quick to spring to action and soon discovers that the mystery shooter hasn’t gone too far. He chases him down the fire escape only to have his efforts interrupted by a crowd of partygoers exiting through the back door. The shooter manages to evade Machado, but not before he loses his card.

My double delight! Ioan Gruffudd on his wife's success with IVF and his latest role opposite sexy twin sisters (DAILY MAIL)

By LINA DAS

You’d be hard pushed to find a more genuinely charming actor than Ioan Gruffudd. Courteous and with impeccable manners, he’s a flurry of door-opening and ‘after yous’ when we meet. Of course the lilting Welsh accent and dark, magnetic looks that catapulted him to fame in the ITV series Hornblower don’t do him any harm either.

One interviewer was so taken with him, they swooned that Ioan was ‘perfect’. His charm is all the more impressive today given Ioan had spent the previous night in hospital. While his wife, actress Alice Evans, was away in Atlanta shooting the TV series The Vampire Diaries, their two-year-old daughter Ella Betsi was suddenly beset with breathing difficulties – the local hospital eventually diagnosing her with the respiratory condition, croup.

‘It’s quite a traumatic thing for Alice to have to leave Ella to go to work,’ he says, ‘so you can imagine how awful the phone call was when I had to tell her what had happened. I was terrified. But Ella’s fine now and she’ll be thrilled because her mum’s coming home tonight.’

Ella is Ioan and Alice’s only child. The couple underwent IVF treatment three years ago in order to conceive. ‘We’d wanted a baby for a while and after it didn’t happen for us naturally we said, “Let’s take what science has to offer.”

Luckily for us, it worked the first time so it wasn’t a long, hard struggle,’ he says. On discovering Alice was pregnant, there was elation, ‘but that’s just the beginning of the journey,’ admits Ioan. ‘Then there’s the whole other worry of, “Are we going to get to 12 weeks?”. It was a long, anxious process and then Alice was on bed rest for the last eight weeks because of high blood pressure, which is quite serious.

Judi Dench speaks out on behalf of Michigan Shakespeare Festival (MICHIGAN LIVE)

Jackson, MI – One of Britain’s most accomplished thespians is lending her support to the Michigan
Shakespeare Festival.

Dame Judi Dench, a multiple Oscar and Tony winner, spoke out in support of the Jackson-based Shakespeare Festival through a statement released by the festival on Friday. “I’m delighted to help spread the word any way I can,” said Dench. “Especially now, when arts institutions are facing so much peril.” New Michigan Shakespeare Festival Managing Director Bart Williams got to know Dench while working in England. He remains close with Dench’s daughter Finty Williams.

In recent conversations, Bart Williams has talked to Dench about the struggles many arts and theater organizations are experiencing during tough economic times. “In Britain, we have to be ever vigilant against arts funding cuts,” Dench added. “It depresses me that the situation in America is even more dire. There is much less funding available, and so many more people to be reached. “If my support can in any way help extend the reach of the Michigan Shakespeare Festival, I offer it gladly.”

Bart Williams said the Shakespeare Festival’s Shakespeare high school tour continues to grow, as it has expanded from southeastern Michigan to include West Michigan and parts of northern Indiana and Ohio. However, the tour remains on a tight budget, he added.

Anna Karenina - the first great version with Greta Garbo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCu-eRyUMbM&feature=related

I know all of us Keira Knightley, Jude Law and Matthew Macfadyen fans are waiting for Anna Karenina to come out sometime this year, but this original Anna Karenina is lovely, although they all look a bit old for their parts.  Garbo is Garbo and positively beautiful.

I can see Keira as Anna very easily although I would have preferred Colin Firth to be Karenin and Matthew Macfadyen to be Vronsky.  Then I would have REALLY wanted to see the new Anna Karenina.

THE I COULD HAVE TOLD YOU THIS AWARD!!! Darcy voted best literary character (BATLEY AND BIRSTELL NEWS)

Published on Saturday 24 March 2012 07:30

It may have taken Elizabeth Bennet a while to warm to him, but Batley folk are big fans of Mr Darcy. The classic Jane Austen character from Pride and Prejudice came top in a poll of people’s favourite literary characters. The contest was run by Batley library to mark World Book Day, when anyone borrowing a book was asked to vote.

Staff member Zanam Shaffi said: “Whether the appearance of Colin Firth as Mr Darcy in the BBC adaptation had any bearing on the result is pure speculation!”

Helena Bonham Carter, Johnny Depp, Dark Shadows Trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpWvkFlyl4M&feature=player_embedded

I can't wait to see this - it looks hysterical!  If you remember the original Dark Shadows, #1 you're old and B. it was probably the very worst soap opera on TV and we all loved it!!  Scenery fell over, set workers smoked off screen and passed outside the windows when the scene was supposed to be the second story of Colinwood - Joan Bennett looked as if she had passed away the year before and no one informed her.

We would race home from school and everyone watched it.  This version, however, is meant to be funny and Johnny Depp looks fantastic.

Clive Owen's Love Affair With Madrid Began On Film Set (CONTACT MUSIC)

Movie star Clive Owen fell in love with Madrid's food and wine culture while he was shooting his new movie Intruders in the Spanish capital.

The British actor admits he now returns to the city whenever he can, just to satisfy his new-found appreciation of the best things in life. Owen tells BlogTalkRadio.com, "The food was fantastic. That was the biggest culture shock. I've been back to Madrid maybe eight times since finishing this film, and I have to be honest; it's primarily to eat!

"The food in that town is so good and the whole crew, they really knew how to live... All they wanted to talk about was food and wine all day - 'Where did you eat last night? What did you eat? What wine did you have with it?' They were all complete foodies, and I'm a bit of a foodie, so I loved working with a Spanish crew.

Hugh Bonneville: 'How the hell are you organising the Olympic games?' Zara Phillips lambasts 2012 organisers in spoof sketch for Sport Relief (MAIL ON LINE)

By ALANAH ERIKSEN

UPDATED: 18:53 EST, 23 March 2012

She has hopes of competing in the 2012 Olympics.

So when the PR team in charge of the event failed in their pitch on how Zara Phillips could promote the games, she was obviously unimpressed. The 30-year-old, 13th in line to the throne, was left annoyed during a hilarious sketch for Sport Relief.

Zara and rowing legend Sir Steve Redgrave were seen meeting with the fictional characters of the BBC comedy series, Twenty Twelve.

Ian Fletcher, played by Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville, led an incompetent team who were unable to come up with ideas on how the pair could push the games during Sport Relief.

Tom Hiddleston, Rachel Weisz: The Deep Blue Sea: movie review (CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR)

By Andy Klein /
March 23, 2012

A director’s touch and precision acting give life to 'The Deep Blue Sea.'

"The Deep Blue Sea" opens with Samuel Barber's beautiful Violin Concerto, the sound of a ticking clock, and the on-screen legend "London, Around 1950." It's night, and the camera tracks very slowly along a shabby street before tilting up to a third-floor window where we see Hester Collyer (Rachel Weisz).

We enter the apartment and watch her calmly prepare to kill herself, by both taking pills and turning on the gas. It's the suicide equivalent of wearing a belt and suspenders.

Once we get to know her better and learn the circumstances leading to her current actions, this apparent surfeit of caution seems out of character: In matters of love, romance, and sex, she has thrown caution to the wind. As the camera smoothly follows her around the room and her mind wanders to some brief flashbacks, the film is more concerned with setting a tragic/romantic mood than giving us a lot of detail.

The 10-minute opening sequence is shot almost like a silent movie, with no more than a line or two spoken.

Julian Fellowes talks 'chaste' Romeo and Juliet (WINNIPEG FREE PRESS)

By: Bang Showbiz

Julian Fellowes says the new version of 'Romeo and Juliet' will be chaste. The 'Downton Abbey' creator has adapted William Shakespeare's classic tale of a pair of star crossed lovers for the big screen and rather than try to modernise the story, which stars Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld, Julian insisted it reflected old fashioned values with the couple not consummating their relationship until they are married.

He told the Daily Mail newspaper: "Love is life-shaping and moving. We did feel it would be nice to have romantic, married love, and that purity was an important part of the film. They don't make love until they have been married. "One always sounds like 'Disgusted of Cheltenham' when you have these kind of discussions, but there is room for an understanding of the power of love.

THE RANT: ‘JOHN CARTER’s’ MASSIVE FALLOUT: Who’s to blame for Disney’s ‘$200-million’ bomb (THE RANT)

THE RANT: ‘JOHN CARTER’s’ MASSIVE FALLOUT: Who’s to blame for Disney’s ‘$200-million’ bomb By Michael Cavna

SOMETIMES BAD FLOPS happen to good people. Even those hideous, avert-your-eyes flops that cause you to question how so much talent can go to so much disgraceful waste. Amid the commercial carnage that follows the CGI blood-splatter, even Hollywood’s best coroners are sometimes stumped by the precise cause of staggering box-office death.

They walk away, shaking their heads, chalking it up to fickle audiences or muddled plots or who-knows-what-exactly? Commercial death comes, as it must, to all serial big-spenders backing gargantuan movies. But in the case of “John Carter,” it didn't have to be this way.

Disney still has its Imagineers. But where in the Martian world were the studio’s marketeers? “John Carter” may go down as one of Hollywood’s biggest movie flops ever. But it should rightly go down as one the town’s biggest marketing flops ever.

Did someone at the Mouse House dial the E.R. instead of PR? The Mouse House announced this week that it anticipates that “John Carter” — its new film about Edgar Rice Burroughs’s Civil War “Martian” — will “book a loss of $200 million” for the quarter. Meaning in Hollywood dollars, it’s on track to be one of the biggest money-losing ka-booms ever. “John Carter” had grossed nearly $190-mill globally as of last weekend — but had a whopping production budget of about $250-million, plus its $100-million marketing price tag, the AP reports.

Thu Jan 12, 2012 3:02pm EST"The Borgias" executive producer James Flynn says he hopes for four seasons of the Showtime papal drama, which is about to enter its second season.

"The overall plan in a series like this is ideally four seasons," he said Thursday. "That would be the plan, that would be the ambition."

Flynn spoke at a "Borgias" panel for the Television Critics Association winter press tour, where Irons also spoke about his distinctive voice.

Irons said that when he was 25 or 30 years old, he and John Hurt once met for coffee and bemoaned the new crop of good, young actors. He said Hurt told him his trick for sabotaging the potential competition:

Hugh Grant wants Bridget Jones 3

Hugh Grant wants Bridget Jones 3 (UKPA) – 2 hours ago

Hugh Grant has revealed that he would gladly reprise his caddish role for Bridget Jones 3. But the 51-year-old actor, who played ladies' man Daniel Cleaver in the previous two films, admitted that it's still a work in progress.

"That film is not really on yet. We are up for it, but they haven't quite cracked the script. But when they do, I'm sure we'll make it," he said. Hugh - who makes his animated debut in upcoming Aardman film The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists - said he enjoyed playing such a cad alongside Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth. "I did like playing Daniel Cleaver in both films, but there is no definite part three," he told Total Film.

"None of the three of us have signed up for it yet. There's been a number of drafts that have had great things in them but haven't quite hit the bullseye. It's just that it does have to be significantly reinvented. "I don't think that you could pretend that it's a year after the end of the last one because we look f*****g ancient now, all three of us," he added.

Hugh teased that Daniel won't be a reformed man, saying: "He won't be, no."

The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists, which also stars David Tennant and Martin Freeman, opens in cinemas on March 28.

Jennifer Saunders: Kate Moss is least precious guest star

Jennifer Saunders says Kate Moss is the "least precious" guest star 'Absolutely Fabulous' has ever had because she doesn't care about her looks.

The 38-year-old supermodel will appear alongside comediennes Jennifer and Joanna Lumley in a one-off special of the BBC One show in aid of Sport Relief tomorrow night (23.03.12) and Jennifer revealed Kate threw herself into her cameo and wasn't worried about her appearance.

Jennifer - who is the face of the new Choccy Philly campaign - exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "We've got Kate Moss, Stella McCartney and David Gandy. We've done French and Saunders stuff with Kate before and she's been wonderful so it was great to work with her again.

She's really good, she's really professional and she looks amazing. "She comes in, lets the hair and make-up people do whatever they want, she isn't precious about her appearance at all but I suppose when you look like that you don't need to. You can put anything on her face and she'll look good. She is honestly probably the least precious person we've had on. I suppose because she doesn't have all those hang ups about her looks like other people. She just threw herself into it and was wonderful."

Matthew Macfadyen and Jerome Flynn get to work on the set of bloody new series Ripper Street... as 19th century London is recreated in Dublin (MAIL ON LINE)

By AMY OLIVER

The grisly murders may have taken place more than a century ago, but the story of Jack the Ripper continues to fascinate many. Something BBC America has obviously twigged.

For, after the success of its crime series Whitechapel, the network is now working on 'Ripper Street', an eight-part series that focuses on the 19th century detectives who tried to catch the serial killer on the job.

The thriller, which stars Mr Darcy Matthew Macfadyen and Jerome Flynn, is set in London's east end in 1889 when the killer - or killers, the Ripper's identity is still a mystery - was at large.

Movie Review: Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (APP.COM)

From the offbeat title to the unexpected pairing of Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt, “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” is intriguing from the start. Based on Paul Torday’s novel of the same name, McGregor plays Dr. Fred Jones, a pragmatic salmon expert who works for the British fisheries.

Blunt stars as the charming Harriet Chetwode-Talbot, who handles a wealthy Yemeni sheik’s financial assets. The film artfully mixes an unlikely romance with British politics. This quirky blend of genres works, and overall the movie is entertaining.

Sheik Muhammad (Amr Waked) dreams of bringing salmon fishing to Yemen. Harriet is given the task of handling this outlandish project. She enlists the help of Dr. Fred, who initially rejects her offer. The course of these characters’ lives change when Patricia Maxwell (Kirstin Scott Thomas), the British prime minister’s relentlessly efficient personal assistant, decides that this project will provide the PM with some positive press.

With the persistent urging of Patricia, Fred is forced to participate in the sheik’s endeavors.

Emily Blunt is poised to have a breakout year (STL TODAY)

Emily Blunt is on the Hollywood fast track.

But she still makes time for small, intimate films like "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen." In the offbeat romantic comedy opening today in St. Louis, Blunt plays a young woman who gets involved with a sheik's efforts to bring fishing to a desert. In the process, she also gets to know a fisheries expert (played by Ewan McGregor) who's highly skeptical of the project.

"These little movies need a lot of pushing," Blunt says. "It's a word-of-mouth thing." What attracted her to "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen," she says, was the fact that it "felt original and smart. "I certainly read quite a few generic scripts. Occasionally one comes along that just lifts your spirits, and you're like, 'Wow, this is so refreshing.' And I really thought it was character-rich, as opposed to special-effects-rich."

Wild Bill has charm, wit and plenty of morals (MAIL ON LINE)

Verdict: Enjoyable and Engaging

This gangster's to die for: Unlike Guy Ritchie's flippant Lock Stock, British movie Wild Bill has charm, wit and plenty of morals

By CHRIS TOOKEY PUBLISHED: 17:27 EST, 22 March 2012 | UPDATED: 05:37 EST, 23 March 2012

Just when many of us wanted never to suffer through another British gangster film, along comes the best of the lot — a picture that sums up everything that’s good about British movie-making. It’s quirky, warm and charming. It’s also well acted, beautifully written and superbly directed.

Like Billy Elliot before it, it inventively recycles dozens of tired cliches to come up with something fresh and exciting. There’s unlikely to be a more entertaining British film this year. Charlie Creed-Miles gives the performance of his life as Wild Bill, a once violent, now befuddled criminal just released after eight years in prison.

He drops in on his old council flat in East London, and discovers his wife has gone on permanent vacation to Spain with her new squeeze. They’ve abandoned Bill’s understandably angry 15-year-old son Dean (Will Poulter, the outstanding young actor from Son Of Rambow and Voyage Of The Dawn Treader) and his wayward little brother Jimmy (Sammy Williams, a diminutive urchin who made brief but memorable contributions to Attack The Block).

Benedict Cumberbatch, Matt Smith: Moffat on Master Rumours, Story Arc (DOCTOR WHO)

In all the excitement yesterday we missed this other little Steven Moffat interview from the Radio Times.

First, Moffat was quizzed about the rumours suggesting that Benedict Cumberbatch is being lined up to play the Master. “People really do sit in rooms and make that stuff up,” he said.

“Look at the filming schedules for Doctor Who and Sherlock – those two shows tend to shoot at the same time. We’d have a problem and there’s only so much I can arrange.” But as usual, he didn’t rule it out either adding: “But who knows what could happen in the future…”

Moffat also spoke a little more on how big the story arc for Series 7 will be this time: “This time we’re moving closer to stand-alone stories. At this point, we’re not planning any two-parters. So, every week is going to be like a different mad movie.”

Hugh Grant, David Tennant: Pirate film star Grant sick at sea (BELFAST TELEGRAPH)

Grant, who lends his voice to the part, relished the challenge of his first animated role. "I quite enjoyed it. It was a challenge. I'm not very well suited to the puppet but once I mastered it, I loved it," he added.

Tennant - who voices the young Charles Darwin - agreed to the film immediately. "I got a phone call and they said Aardman Animations are making a film. By the time that sentence had finished I think I'd signed the contract," he said. "If you get a call from Aardman Studios I think you know you're going to be in something quite classy and quite exciting, so of course you're going to say yes.

"They're an international treasure. And everything that they do is brilliant." He added: "It's not something I ever imagined would come my way, but I was very happy that it did."

Hugh Grant at ‘Pirates’ premiere (IN2EAST AFRICA)

LONDON (AP) — Hugh Grant is stepping away from his usual romantic fare – to walk the plank.

The British actor is starring in “The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists,” his first animated film role. He plays a pirate captain – called Pirate Captain – on a quest to win the Pirate of the Year Award.

He joined co-star David Tennant at the premiere of the latest adventure from Aardman Animations, creators of “Wallace and Gromit,” in London on Wednesday. The “Notting Hill” actor admitted he doesn’t see many similarities between himself and his pirate persona. “I looked at it and I thought “well I’m nothing like that, this is terrible casting.”

So I actually had to adapt myself, and I had to do a bit of acting for once,” he joked.

Judi Dench, Maggie Smith: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, directed by John Madden (THE NATIONAL BUSINESS REVIEW)

John Daly-Peoples |
Thursday March 22, 2012

In 1963, Cliff Richard and his twenty something mates headed off on an idyllic summer holiday to Greece. Now fifty years later his generation of 70 year olds have discovered a new holiday or rather retirement haven in India.

These are the new lost children of England who run from their grandparental duties, the lack of available new partners and the preponderance of Indians flooding into the country. These pensioners decide that they can eke out their pensions in India and have some sort of physical and possibly spiritual rebirth by following the guidance of the Karma Sutra.

They all wash up at The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, a slightly down at heel hotel in Jaipur run by an enthusiastic young Indian who is only halfway through the renovations. It is a light hearted look at the internationalism and globalization of culture where Indians invade England and the English start to take over India, again.
