Rosamund Pike: She Wears It Well Actress Rosamund Pike looks sexy but relaxed at the world premiere of 'Les Miserables' in London. (FASHION)

BY KATE FINNIGAN | 06 DECEMBER 2012

Blimey, the stars really got excited about dressing for the Les Miserables London premiere, didn't they? And not in an entirely good way. Anne Hathaway chose a deconstructed eiderdown, Laura Bailey a blancmange - not my favourite looks from the esteemed houses of Givenchy or Valentino.

But that one from ' I'd Do Anything ' (Samantha Barks) looked GREAT: sporty, full-length, navy blue Stella McCartney. For a first big trip out on the red carpet that was seriously cool.

But the only person who actually looked comfortable and therefore the best dressed in my opinion (no boobs bobbing perilously on a fragment of tit-tape; rib cage able to move freely) was the gorgeous Rosamund Pike.

Livia Firth helps Prada Go Green at Met Ball (ECORAZZI)

Last night at the 2012 Met Ball, Livia Firth, wife of actor Colin, continued her mission to turn that red carpet green, and enlisted some new names to join the cause.

First up was Livia’s own dress, a beautiful, Gothic inspired number that introduced mecca designer Prada to the Green Carpet Challenge (GCC) for the first time.

“I am hugely proud of what this gown has achieved: it represents a GCC first as it’s the first time a designer has used so many different GCC materials in one single piece. And so the black panelled gown mixes certified silks, tulle and chiffon with sustainably harvested ostrich feathers and end-of-line British made lace,” says Livia of her gown. She adds, “it’s testament to the inventiveness of Guisi Bettoni (who put together our GCC fabric library) that even the ostrich feathers are certified!”

The other shining addition to the Green Carpet Challenge family was actress and environmentalist, Cameron Diaz, who walked the carpet in a breathtaking Stella McCartney. This dazzling and embellished dress was made from organic silk in collaboration with the GCC. The designer then added thousands of glass beads and a crystal chain, sparking a new initiative to the GCC; the traceability and sourcing of embellishment materials.

Jennifer Saunders: Kate Moss is least precious guest star

Jennifer Saunders says Kate Moss is the "least precious" guest star 'Absolutely Fabulous' has ever had because she doesn't care about her looks.

The 38-year-old supermodel will appear alongside comediennes Jennifer and Joanna Lumley in a one-off special of the BBC One show in aid of Sport Relief tomorrow night (23.03.12) and Jennifer revealed Kate threw herself into her cameo and wasn't worried about her appearance.

Jennifer - who is the face of the new Choccy Philly campaign - exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "We've got Kate Moss, Stella McCartney and David Gandy. We've done French and Saunders stuff with Kate before and she's been wonderful so it was great to work with her again.

She's really good, she's really professional and she looks amazing. "She comes in, lets the hair and make-up people do whatever they want, she isn't precious about her appearance at all but I suppose when you look like that you don't need to. You can put anything on her face and she'll look good. She is honestly probably the least precious person we've had on. I suppose because she doesn't have all those hang ups about her looks like other people. She just threw herself into it and was wonderful."

Paul McCartney: Help! Macca's broken-down Eurostar train left standing there for six hours (MIRROR)

By Mark Ellis

He may have had a Ticket to Ride but Sir Paul McCartney still found himself stranded for six hours on a broken-down Eurostar train.

The former Beatle, 69, wife Nancy Shevell, 51, and his daughter Stella were marooned in the French countryside after five inches of snow caused an overhead power cable to collapse. Despite the “vile” conditions on the train, chatty Macca did not let the long delay send him off the rails.

A source said: “It was a pretty hideous situation but Sir Paul was on fine form. “He had a laugh and a joke as he chatted with the passengers in his cabin and he signed dozens of autographs. Paul, wife Nancy and daughter Stella were marooned in the French countryside after snow caused an overhead power cable to collapse

Colin Firth: Green on the Red Carpet (Greener Ideals)

by • February 2, 2012

Colin Firth and Livia Firth
Forget Real Housewives—the real story is that for the 3rd year in a row the real life wife of actor Colin Firth is bringing together top designers and celebrities in an annual ecological challenge that brings green fashion to the red carpet.

Livia Firth

GCC (Green Carpet Challenge) is the collaborative effort between Livia Firth and Vogue UK that brings forth an outward challenge to the fashion industry to adopt more sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices—and in 2012 sees the likes of Giorgio Armani, Chanel, Alberta Ferretti, Tom Ford, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney, Paul Smith, Valentino, Roger Vivier and Ermenegildo Zegna designing glam garments with recycled or organic materials to demonstrate their commitment.

The challenge jumped off at the Golden Globes last month, which Livia attended on the arm of her man rocking an Armani dress made from recycled bottles, and will continue throughout 2012 as green designs appear on yet-to-be-named celebs at the year’s biggest events. Livia also recently attended Paris Couture Fashion Week, where she met with the world’s top designers to talk shop—all of them in great support of her eco-initiative (even Lagerfeld).
“I’m extremely thrilled that Livia wanted to involve me in such an ambitious project. Creating feminine, glamorous, yet eco-friendly clothes is a challenge that stimulates my creativity. I believe that fashion is a strong way of communication that can support such an actual and contemporary cause,” –Giorgio Armani, Eco-Age.com

Colin Firth: Livia Firth (Eco-fashionista) kicks off 2012 Green Carpet Challenge (Mother Nature Network)

Eco-fashionista wears first-ever sustainable Girogio Armani gown to the Golden Globe Awards.

For the third year running, Livia Firth is bringing sustainable fashion to Hollywood's red carpets through her Green Carpet Challenge. The successful eco-entrepreneur, fashionista, and wife of actor Colin Firth kicked things off last night at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards by donning a stunning black Giorgio Armani gown made from recycled plastic bottles.

“When I put the dress on it felt incredible,” she wrote on her blog for Vogue UK. “It transports me to Italy in the 1960s. Armani just knows how to do this so well! There is also a really fun geisha reference in this dress with the ornate lining – very in line with the current Armani look. But the real achievement for me is that last night the GCC proved that sophistication and sustainability can go together. That’s the victory that Armani has delivered for us.”

Firth has elevated this year's challenge to include more than ten top designers from around the world to contribute sustainable and ethical designs. Tom Ford, Gucci, Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Yves, Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney, Paul Smith, Valentino, Roger Vivier, Alberta Ferretti, and Ermenegildo Zegna are the names listed as participating throughout 2012.

“It is absolutely the right time to take the challenge up a gear, so we are working with our favorite world-class designers and actors as GCC ambassadors,” Firth writes. “Fashion is a brilliant communicator. The fashion we communicate through the GCC promotes social justice, environmental integrity and the very best in design.”

While the fashion industry has slowly been embracing sustainable practices over the last several years, the thrust of the movement has generally been from a new generation of designers like Stella McCartney. It's encouraging to see more established brands take the leap by teaming up with Firth for this year's greening of the runway.

“Livia’s passion for the mission of this project is infectious,” Gucci’s Frida Giannini said.”We all have a collective responsibility towards future generations to minimise our impact on the environment and through this initiative we can hopefully show that you don’t have to make any compromises in design and creativity when working with environmentally friendly materials.”

For her Globes' dress, Giorgio Armani used recycled plastic bottles sourced from Northern Italy to achieve the desired look and feel.

"Armani went for fibre from Newlife, a project developed by Filature Miroglio that takes place in Northern Italy," writes Green Carpet Challenge co-founder Lucy Siegle. "Rather than a vertical supply chain this has been developed horizontally through a system of certified partnerships, all in Italy. This means it's fully traceable - which gets a big thumbs up from the GCC. The end product - the yarn - is fully derived from recycled plastic bottles."

As referenced in the article, it requires about thirty, one-and-a-half litre bottles to make one kilo (roughly 2.2 lbs.) of Newlife yarn. According to the product site, the company hopes to produce 10,000 tons a year by 2015 – thus avoiding adding some 72,000 tons of plastic material to landfills, and saving 343 million gallons of water for the creation of virgin material.

Since Hollywood's awards season has only just started, look for more sustainable fashion to grace the red carpet throughout 2012. Even better, Firth hopes to bring on some A-list actresses to participate. Who would you like to see go green on the red carpet?

Colin Firth: What’s more sustainable? Livia Firth’s dress vs. the Golden Globes menu (89.3KPCC)

Jan. 15, 2012 | By Scott Sterling

Actor Colin Firth and wife Livia Giuggioli arrive at the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 16, 2011 in Beverly Hills. Firth was nominated in the best dramatic actor category for his work in 'The King's Speech.'
It’s no wonder Hollywood’s 1% was looking especially fat and happy at this year’s Golden Globes ceremony; the “Global Food Harmony” menu featured chocolate flown in from Switzerland and honey caramel from France. Terrapass even tabulated the carbon footprint left behind on just those two items along with hazelnuts from Italy almond paste from Spain to come up with 9,261 lbs of CO2 emissions to get them all to big event, raising the ire of Global Green U.S.A.

“Flying in ingredients from around the world is unsustainable and only adds to growing greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming,” a Global Green U.S.A. spokesperson lamented to the UK's Daily Mail.

On the other end of the spectrum, Livia Giuggioli Firth, wife of the actor Colin Firth, hosted the third annual Green Carpet Challenge event at the Soho House in West Hollywood. Livia Firth, who is the creative director of London eco-consulting group Eco Age Ltd., recruited A-list designers like Giorgio Armani and Stella McCartney to design a series of “green” dresses for her to wear to the season’s award shows. The dress she wore to the Golden Globes was an Armani creation fashioned from recycled water bottles.

Livia Firth’s 2012 Green Carpet Challenge to Feature A-List Stars (Ecorazzi)

Livia Firth is a sustainable remodel to wear gown

Livia Firth’s 2012 Green Carpet Challenge to Feature A-List Stars

by Michael dEstries
For the third year in a row, Livia Firth’s Green Carpet Challenge will once again grace the red carpets during Hollywood’s awards season – but with an exciting new twist.

The successful entrepreneur and eco-fashionista (best known to many as “the wife of actor Colin Firth“), started the challenge in 2010 in partnership with Vogue UK. The idea was to wear only outfits that were sustainable or eco on the red carpet; thereby exposing the world to designers focused on ethical creations.

“I knew how talented this new breed of designer could be,’ Firth recently told Red Online. “Many had got so close to dressing actresses for major awards and then been bumped at the last minute by a major brand. It gave us the chance to show that Fairtrade supply chains and eco fibres could have aesthetic merit, as well as ethics.”

While Firth has been reticent to reveal full details about this year’s challenge, there are some tidbits that have dropped referencing the “expansion” she’s been hinting. According to interviews in Red and the UK Guardian, 10 top designers will be matched with 10 A-list stars to create and wear sustainable, ethical gowns.

Stella McCartney, Gucci, Tom Ford, Paul Smith, Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen and Alberta Ferretti are just some of the famous designers we currently know about. Anna Loucha, who created the fair trade jewelry for Livia’s Oscar night will also be involved.

According to Firth, one of the aims of the GCC has always been to invite more actresses to participate – as goal that was realized last year when “Downton Abbey” star Elizabeth McGovern wore a locally sourced up-cycled wool dress by Henrietta Ludgate to the Royal Television Society Awards.

Based on tweets, it appears that Firth will also once again be involving charities into the mix – with Oxfam a guaranteed participant. Last year, Christie’s auctioned off both the Oscars and Golden Globes gowns (with the cash going to the Natural Resources Defense Council), while Oxfam auctioned off the rest.

Curious to know more? Stay tuned. With the Golden Globes kicking off this Sunday, it’s only a matter of time before some of those A-List green gown participants are revealed.

Jennifer Saunders: Ab Fab ribbing won't bother Elton John or Liz Hurley (Metro)

Comedian Jennifer Saunders, 53, discusses the two new Christmas episodes of Absolutely Fabulous, taking the mick out of Elton John, and Madonna's sex life.

Jennifer SaundersF
abulous: Saunders (Picture: Rex)
You’ve got some great guest stars in the new Ab Fab episodes. How do you choose, because everyone must say yes?
Not everyone says yes. You get all this big US money and someone will say: ‘Ooh, can we have a big US star?’ and you think: ‘Someone we can’t be rude about? Yeah, let’s have that person!’ And so there’s that awful feeling of: ‘Are they all right sitting in the corner over there? How long do we have them for today?’ It’s just not worth it.

Who is the special guest for the Olympic episode that comes out next year?
Stella McCartney’s in it, as well as Kelly Holmes and Tanni Grey-Thompson.

Do you ever get into trouble for being too rude about celebrities, like talking about Elton John breastfeeding?
Oh, he won’t mind that [laughs]. Good Lord, absolutely not. I think he would find the thought of him breastfeeding a baby hilarious. And I hope Liz Hurley finds it [being spoken about as if she is a horse] hilarious as well.

Imagine if her son is sitting there and Mummy’s being portrayed as a horse…
No, no, she’ll be fine. It could be much worse. And they do bring her out for charity things like they do with a horse. I’m going to blame Ruby [Wax, Ab Fab’s script editor]. That was actually her joke.

It’s funny that everyone’s so excited over a show about two women in their fifties. Do you think TV today is too youth-oriented?
I think there’s this idea that everything has to be a bit rough with a few guns. And yet there’s a whole generation that still isn’t comfortable with sex on TV. They just want something quite fun.

What about your own kids? Did they want things a bit rough?
With music, they were into Slipknot and that rough kind of thrash metal. Ade [husband Adrian Edmondson] listens to everything but the only thing we couldn’t listen to was that violent Marilyn Manson screaming stuff. So, of course, that’s why the kids loved listening to it.

What about the sexy stuff, like Rihanna? How do you feel about that?
I think when Madonna did sexy stuff she looked more in control. And I think it looked more like she was breaking boundaries. Today, it feels like it’s pandering to everything that’s wrong and I don’t think it’s nice, especially for young girls. What they see nowadays in terms of sex.

Would you say you were an easy person to get on with?
I’m very easy [laughs]. I don’t fall out with people generally. And if I wanted to fall out with them I’d probably just drop them rather than have it out.

Is Dawn [French, comedy partner] the sort of friend you’d tell your deepest secrets and feelings to? Are you that kind of person anyway?
Erm… I’m probably not that sort of person anyway. But we understand each other really well and we both know when the other person needs to leave off the subject. We are very close, and we tend to know most things about each other, but she has a best friend and I have a best friend. We’re not each other’s best friends, because that would just be… off. It would be too much. It is a balance between having a working relationship and a personal relationship.

You’ve joked about always asking Madonna to be in your stuff. Are you secretly relieved the star said no?
I think I’d actually be a bit scared of Madonna, even if she is about my height. We’d be eyeball to eyeball but I’d be pretty scared because if she doesn’t like you, I bet she’s got a bit of a tongue.

Could you see yourself hanging out with 23-year-old men like Madonna does?
Oh, God, no! How dull would that be? I know what she sees in them. She sees a lovely body that’s not going to question her. She’s not going to have to talk to it in the morning. They don’t look like really bright boys either. It’s a dancer, you know? What’s the conversation going to be? ‘Are you going to the gym today?’ ‘Yes, I’m going to the gym today.’ ‘What are you going to do at the gym today? How many press-ups?’ I mean, what’s the point? Well [laughing], the point is, I presume, that’s she’s having great sex. Let’s hope she’s having great sex, otherwise, well...

They could be sitting there, discussing French new wave cinema all the time...
I don’t think so, do you? It is a shame though, because there are interesting young people out there. But the interesting ones probably wouldn’t want to sleep with Madonna [laughs]. Saying that, I bet she looks bloody marvellous.

Absolutely Fabulous is on BBC1 on Christmas Day at 10pm

More Details on Stella McCartney’s Absolutely Fabulous Cameo: New York Fashion

Classic British comedy series Absolutely Fabulous returns this year for a few special Christmas episodes — with a Stella McCartney cameo. The show's star Jennifer Saunders recently revealed more details on Stella's role: "It's funny because [in the episodes] the joke is that Stella McCartney won't ever let Eddy into her shop to get any clothes ... And I'm like, 'Stella! Why don't you love me?' I fall at Stella's feet at a drinks reception and go, 'I'd look great in your clothes!' She treats me like her stalker, which I've become."

Eventually, Stella gives into Edina's desperate pleas, which leads to a sure-to-be memorable shopping session for Edina and Patsy when they finally get visit to her boutique. And whatever happens, they like what they see enough to have Stella replace Christian Lacroix ("Lacroix, sweetie") as Edina's most favorite designer. Says Saunders, "I said [to Stella] 'Don't you mind being the new Lacroix?' And she said 'No, but he did go out of business didn't he?' But I was like, 'Don't worry, it's not a curse.'"

L.I.L.Y stands for 'Linda I Love You', which was the nickname given by Stella McCartney's father, Sir Paul McCartney, to his late wife Linda.
Linda, who was made Lady McCartney when Beatle singer Paul was knighted in 1997, died of breast cancer in 1998.

British Fashion Awards 2011: Stella McCartney's red carpet hits

L.I.L.Y follows on from Stella's hugely successful first scent, the rose-based STELLA, and as the name denotes, lily-of-the-valley, a favourite flower of her mother's and part of the designers bridal bouquet, is the base of the scent mixed with slightly masculine and earthy hints of truffle and oak moss by perfumer Jacques Cavallier.

"The truffle was unusual, but I said OK to Stella. I actually told the suppliers we were working with that the extract was for a restaurant! I didn't want to let people know what we were doing' said the perfumer of using the unusual ingredients" Cavallier told WWD .

Stella, who admits to not wearing a great deal of perfume describes the scent as: "A girl becoming a woman. It's an early spring morning, crisp air on the flesh - and discovery."

Released exclusively in Selfridges on January 26, the scent will be available nationwide from February 15.

Jennifer Saunders' hilarious alter ego Edina Monsoon steals the show at McCartney's Absolutely Fabulous store lighting ceremony

Stella who? By Sarah Bull

She might have taken home one of the biggest prizes at the British Fashion Awards, but it wasn't Stella McCartney who was the centre of attention at the turning on of the Christmas lights of her London store last night.

Instead it was Jennifer Saunders, in character as her Absolutely Fabulous alter-ego Edina Monsoon, who had the audience in stitches outside the Mayfair store as she was joined by Emma Bunton.

Wearing an eye-catching gold jacket and ginger curly wig, Saunders proceeded to make quips about stars including Nancy Dell'Olio and Stella's close friend Kate Moss before pressing the button to light up the store.

And while all eyes were certainly on Edina at the event, there was a fair share of famous faces present as well.

Designer Stella played it safe in an all-black outfit after her British Fashion Awards jumpsuit faux pas, and was supported by her father Paul and his new wife Nancy Shevell, who looked stunning in a ladylike tweed outfit.

Kate Moss was also spotted entering the store with her daughter Lila, while Mariella Frostrup posed up for photographers outside the store wearing a festive red lace dress.

While details of the plot for the programme are being kept tightly under wraps, Saunders revealed recently that she and co-star Joanna Lumley would be joined by some familiar faces, including her fellow lighting pal, Bunton, who first appeared in the show back in 2003 and will also be returning for the reunion.
Expressing her relief that the cast are all able to return for the BBC One specials, she jokes: 'Everyone's still alive - phew!'

Saunders added to Graham Norton that there wasn't space for lots of celebrity cameos, saying: 'With only three episodes there are a lot of people to pack in, but we've got the regulars, Lulu and Emma Bunton.'

Saunders also admitted she couldn't help notice a few signs of ageing when the Absolutely Fabulous cast reunited to prepare for the specials.
She said: 'It was a lovely thing going back. It all seemed the same, except at the read-through there was a lot of snapping open of spectacle cases and people bending low to read their scripts.'

Saunders wrote three new episodes which will be aired at Christmas, while recovering from breast cancer.

After the lighting ceremony, Bunton joined the rest of the Absolutely Fabulous cast at a screening of the specials, and was quick to take to Twitter to tell fans of her reaction.

She tweeted: 'Bolly ahoy, at BAFTA with my mate Eddy watching the best thing I've seen in ages!!!!'

Paul McCartney Goes ‘Ab Fab’ for Christmas Party

November 30, 2011
By Tina Baraga
LONDON — “What is Christmas, but a party you have to host,” moaned actress Jennifer Saunders, in character as Edina Monsoon from the “Absolutely Fabulous” series.

Saunders – and former Spice Girl Emma Bunton – were part of the entertainment at Stella McCartney’s annual Christmas lights party on Tuesday night here.

Guests, including Sir Paul McCartney, Kate Moss, Bob Geldof, Alexa Chung, Mariella Frostrup and Barbara Daley, gathered at the designer’s Bruton Street flagship.

Saunders, who will be starring in three new episodes of “Absolutely Fabulous” next month, regaled the crowd with her musings on PR and fashion. She finished off by singing “Oh Holy Night,” with help from Sir Paul.

“Jennifer’s a very talented and iconic woman - and the show has made its way into British history,” said Stella McCartney. “And it’s just bloody funny.”

But McCartney had other reasons for inviting Saunders to the shop. “I also hear she has particularly good taste in her new choice of clothes on the show,” said the designer, referring to Monsoon’s newfound love for the Stella McCartney brand.

Christian Lacroix was the character’s designer of choice in episodes from the Nineties.
