Whovians: Emma Thompson, David Tennant and Matt Smith on The Graham Norton Show

MIRROR
By Lydia Smith

Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson revealed she would have jumped at the chance to play the Doctor in the long-running BBC series.

On tonight's The Graham Norton Show, Thompson denied speculation that she was offered the role that was given to The Thick of It actor Peter Capaldi.

Appearing alongside Matt Smith and David Tennant, she said: “I would have said yes, I’d have loved to have played Doctor Who.

"Maybe women need their own kind of new time travelling person?"

On the upcoming 50th anniversary episode The Day of the Doctor, the tenth Doctor David Tennant and eleventh Time Lord Matt Smith remained tight-lipped about the plot.

They only revealed that Capaldi, who is set to play the twelfth incarnation of the Doctor, will not be in tomorrow's episode.

According to Matt: "Peter joins at Christmas."

David also added that he didn't need any persuading to appear in the special.

Sean Bean: It's Bean a good night! Sean leaves club arm-in-arm with new girlfriend Ashley

Date night: Sean Bean was seen leaving the Groucho club on Wednesday evening with girlfriend Ashley

They were spotted enjoying a rather public display of affection in a London pub back in September of this year.

And it Sean Bean’s romance with girlfriend Ashley Moore is going from strength to strength as the couple were seen enjoying a night out on Wednesday evening.

Despite revealing some grazes on his knuckles, the 54-year-old looked in high spirits as he left the Groucho Club with his blonde squeeze, who is a dead ringer of his ex-Georgina Sutcliffe.

The actor, who is known for his role in Henry VIII, sustained his hand injuries while filming his latest film Any Day in which he plays a boxer.

Sean, who has just returned from filming in LA, looked dapper for his night out at the famous venue – which was also frequented by Pixie Lott and Stephan Merchant on Wednesday evening.

Ashley and Sean appear to have grown increasingly close over the last couple of months and in October the actor was seen enjoying a day out alongside his new partner and his 26-year-old daughter Lorna.

It had previously been thought that Sean had reconciled with his ex-wife Georgina Sutcliffe, who the actor was seen out with and looking rather loved up in June of this year.

The former flames raised eyebrows about their relationship status when the actor took his estranged wife as his date to the 2013 TV Baftas just a month before an Italian break.

Christopher McQuarrie Will Direct Colin Firth In ‘Three to Kill’

Colin Firth Single Man Christopher McQuarrie Will Direct Colin Firth In Three to Kill

SCREEN RANT
Published 9 hours ago by Andrew Crump

Since busting out of director jail last year and helming a big screen treatment of Jim Grant’s Jack Reacher series, Christopher McQuarrie has been making every effort to keep himself busy; the former Wolverine scribe has hopped on board for a feature-length rendition of British TV series Unforgiven (not, as one might assume, a remake of the classic Clint Eastwood Western), and more recently signed up to take the reigns on Mission: Impossible 5, which will reunite him with Reacher star Tom Cruise. (To say nothing of his numerous writing credits, which include, but aren’t limited to, Jack the Giant Slayer and Cruise’s 2014 sci-fi action flick, Edge of Tomorrow.)

Now, McQuarrie has added yet another production to his burgeoning pile: an adaptation of Three to Kill, a book by French author Jean-Patrick Manchette. That’s not to be confused with Three Days to Kill, also French, but a completely different picture altogether. Manchette’s narrative, set on the country’s coast, revolves around a businessman who finds himself caught in the sights of two ruthless killers after witnessing a murder; with McQuarrie at the wheel and Howard Rodman on script duty, the leading role has been handed over to Colin Firth, though no other casting information has been made available thus far.

Monty Python to reunite for stage show

BBC NEWS
19 November 2013 Last updated at 17:16 GMT

All of the surviving members of comedy group Monty Python are to reform for a stage show, one of the Pythons, Terry Jones, has confirmed.

"We're getting together and putting on a show - it's real," Jones told the BBC.

"I'm quite excited about it. I hope it makes us a lot of money. I hope to be able to pay off my mortgage!"

The reunion is expected to be announced officially at a press conference being held in London on Thursday.

John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin and Jones are all due to appear at the event, which was first revealed in the Sun.

Eric Idle also tweeted on Monday: "Only three days to go till the Python press conference. Make sure Python fans are alerted to the big forthcoming news event."

He added on Tuesday: "Python meeting this morning. Can't wait. Press Conference Thursday will apparently be live on Sky News. I'll get you the online URL."

Actor and musician Neil Innes - who worked with the Pythons and appeared in the films Life of Brian and Holy Grail said it was "a surprise".

"The idea of John doing the silly walks with two false hips is very amusing," he told the BBC.

"They influenced everyone in their generation," he continued, "It was the shock of the new. When we were schoolboys, that was The Goon Show. Then they came along, just after the Beatles and they were like the Beatles of comedy."

Comic actor and Python fan David Schneider told BBC 5 live that he took news of the reunion with mixed emotions.

"The worry is, what if its rubbish, as you get older and wealthier and part of the establishment, you lose your edge comedically.

"I'm sure they'll do new stuff, I'd be very disappointed if its all old sketches."

The last time the five remaining members of the iconic comedy group appeared together was in 2009 at their fortieth anniversary celebrations in New York.

The sixth member of the comedy troupe, Graham Chapman, died in 1989.

Gerard Butler displays his fit physique in tight shirt as he strolls around LA with a manbag

Sunny side of the street: Gerard Butler wore his sunglasses on Monday as he stepped out in Los Angeles

He's rocketed to almost A-list Hollywood leading man, and actor Gerard Butler has that million dollar smile to match.

But on Monday, the 44-year-old actor looked down to earth as he strolled around in a scruffy T-shirt, showing off his physique, and resting a manbag on his shoulder.

The Olympus Has Fallen star wore a pair of olive green trousers, black leather shoes and aviator sunglasses to complete the outfit.

Gerard had his short dark hair running free and accessorised with multiple bracelets on his left wrist.

The 300 actor was joined on his walk with a look-alike friend who was about the same height and build as Gerard and also wore a similar V-neck T-shirt and sunglasses.

It was recently announced that Gerard will reprise his role as US Army Ranger Mike Banning in London Has Fallen, the sequel to his hit action film earlier this year Olympus Has Fallen.

Benedict Cumberbatch beats Tom Hiddleston in Alan Rickman impression battle

Benedict Cumberbatch beats Tom Hiddleston in Alan Rickman impression battle

RADIO TIMES
Emma Daly
3:02 PM, 19 November 2013

In my very own clash of the Titans, I put videos of actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston doing Alan Rickman impressions up against each other.

I asked you to watch, listen and choose your favourite.

Sherlock's Cumberbatch adopted Rickman’s famous drawl to ask ‘what would you like me to say to you?’ while Thor star Hiddleston read one of the actor’s lines from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

There were hours of deliberation (probably), weeks of agonising over which actor to choose (maybe), votes pouring in day and night (sort of)… but now it’s over. The results are in.

I can reveal (again, given that I’ve already given it away in the headline) that Benedict Cumberbatch has stomped to victory, scooping 80.26% of the votes to Hiddleston’s 19.74%.

Gothic crime drama Whitechapel is shelved by ITV

Rupert Penry-Jones in Silk

BBC NEWS
19 November 2013 Last updated at 13:06

ITV gothic crime drama Whitechapel has been axed after four series, the cast and crew have confirmed.

Its star, Rupert Penry-Jones, broke the news via Twitter, saying that "ITV don't want any more Whitechapel".

The decision to end the show is part of ITV's efforts to "continue to refresh the channel's drama portfolio", it said in a statement.

The show chronicled a police unit investigating brutal murders in east London.

Penry-Jones, who starred alongside Steve Pemberton and Phil Davis, said in his Twitter message: "Sorry to be the bearer of bad news everyone, but ITV don't want any more Whitechapel. That's all folks."

Series director Jon East also shared the news of the programme's demise via Twitter, saying: "We went out on a bang! Shame nevertheless. It was a great roll, a terrific cast and crew firing on all cylinders. So, onwards!"

"Whitechapel has been a successful drama commission since first broadcasting in 2009. The commissioning team continue to refresh the channel's drama portfolio, hence the decision not to commission beyond the fourth series," ITV said.

Thorin Oakenshield actor Richard Armitage talks 'The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug'

YAHOO MOVIES
By Daniel Wood | Yahoo Contributor Network

With 'Desolation of Smaug' only weeks away excitement for the film is building up to a fever pitch. Naturally the studio will have its actors and actresses out there stirring the pot and Richard Armitage is the latest actor from 'The Hobbit' to do so.

Armitage sat down with Elle Morris of newyorkmoves.com as part of his press rounds for the December 18th release of The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug' where he discussed everything from cocktails to New York and of course the movie itself.

Firstly Elle and Richard spoke about wine, beer and cocktails which lead to Richard proposing a new piece centred around a Thorin Oakenshield cocktail competition "Here's a little pitch for your piece, then. I think you should throw out there a little mini competition of 'Make a Thorin cocktail'," he offered. "What is it called, and what is in it? I'll judge the competition. We'll make the cocktail. … We'll get it down to a short list and we'll do a tasting session. But it has to have a title and it has to have some cool ingredients."

Richard is an English actor who mainly did television serials before his became the 'King under the Mountain'. Armitage starred as John Thornton in 'North and South', Guy of Gisborne in 'Robin Hood' and Lucas North in 'Spooks'. However despite being born in England Armitage now lives in New York, a city he has come to love.

"I find New Yorkers incredibly engaging. They're like Parisians …cool and confrontational, in a good way, in a good way, like they like a good debate. …you walk into a restaurant and it's not full of people silently sitting in front of each other like it can be in England; it's full of people pointing fingers in each other's faces having a really good political debate, or whatever."

In addition, "London and New York are sort of unique in that they are not really representative of the rest of the country that they exist in. London doesn't really represent England-it's so multicultural and cosmopolitan that it's its own entity. [It's the] same with New York; that's why I'm able to live in New York."

However the interview wasn't all New York and Cocktails and Bohemia. They did also talk about the upcoming Hobbit film. In the film Richard plays Thorin Oakenshield, a somewhat conflicted leader of a band of dwarves who are attempting to claim back their homeland from a dragon whilst stave off frequent attacks from a bloodthirsty orc. Understandably there's quite a bit of violence, of which Richard addresses
"Peter Jackson always had this debate with his design team and the actors that you can't undersell violence. It needs to be as shocking and violent as it really is, but you can't glorify it, or make it look sexy or appealing. To the end of keeping violence seem less mundane and domestic." Richard said, "The Hobbit design team was careful to make sure the weapons used looked very different from everyday objects that you'd have in your house."

He adds "I spent most of Robin Hood walking around as a miserable mother-and pretty much all of The Hobbit shoot because Thorin was so troubled. I take on those troubles." But, he added, "That's one of the things that attracted me a role like [Thorin], because you see him redeemed, you see him have his moment of salvation and you see his sacrifice."
