Colin Firth: Fabric Made from Recycled Plastic Bottles Makes Red Carpet Appearance

Livia and Colin Firth stun with recycled and reused outfits as they promote responsible consumption in the 21st century

You’re already familiar with fleeces and other rugged fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles, but Livia Firth’s gown for this year’s Met Ball shows that eco-friendly fashion isn’t just for Columbia Sportswear anymore.

The dress was made entirely out of recycled plastic bottles, redesigned and broken down into the fibers to sew a dark red dress. Firth’s design explored the event’s Eastern theme while simultaneously exposing the flexibility of recycled fibers using Newlife Fabric.

Though the structure and process of the dress are interesting, most comment has come up about the back of the dress. Small pinprints of design are worked into the fabric with dark stitching to illustrate both the flexibility of Newlife Fabrics, and to underscore the complexity and subtlety of the overall issue of sustainable fashion.

Firth’s date, Colin Firth, joined her in making a green choice of attire for the ball. He wore a 100 percent organic wool suit made by Tom Ford, the one he had worn from the 2011 Academy awards. The pair’s choice to not only use sustainable fabrics, but to reuse outfits from earlier events, made its own statement about responsible consumption in the 21st century.

Oscar winner Colin Firth's smart wardrobe for new movie Kingsman: The Secret Service will be made available to fans.

The bespoked suits, watches and shoes the actor's dapper spy character Harry Hart wears in the Matthew Vaughn movie will be available as a 60-piece collection when the film is released in October (14).

Costume designer Arlene Phillips, who helped director and fashion icon Tom Ford create Firth's look in A Single Man, is creating the line with Vaughn for Mr. Porter.

When you go to a party hosted by Tom Ford, you know you have to look amazing, because he always does.
Anna Paquin and Henry Cavill did not disappoint at last night’s (February 21, 2013) Tom Ford cocktail party in support of Project Angel Food at TOM FORD in Beverly Hills, California.

Anna (yes, she gave birth to twins) smoldered in a leather cut-out dress and slicked back down-do, while Girls star Allison Williams looked smoking hot in monochrome.

Then there was Henry Cavill, who was accompanied by his girlfriend Gina Carano.

No one looks better in a tuxedo than Henry Cavill. Although, Henry looks better out of a tuxedo, and actually not wearing a shirt, but this is a Tom Ford party.

Colin Firth - Bradley Cooper Wore Eco-friendly Tux To Golden Globes (CONTACT MUSIC)

Colin Firth's eco-warrior wife has heaped praise on Bradley Cooper for daring to wear a tuxedo made of recycled materials to the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (13Jan13).

Livia Firth convinced the actor to don a Tom Ford tuxedo made from ethical wool for her Green Carpet Challenge (Gcc), which asks top designers to create environmentally-friendly red-carpet looks.

In a post on her blog, Livia writes, "This year we opted to celebrate menswear as the divine Golden Globes nominee Bradley Cooper joined the Gcc in a two piece suit by Tom Ford, designed exclusively for the Green Carpet Challenge.

"The suit was made from... low environmental impact, European spun and woven wool suiting. As Gcc fans will know, while we love the glitz and the excitement of the red carpet, we are fascinated by the supply chain and this project gave us the chance to... create a beautiful fibre that stands the test of time.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Colin Firth attend a private dinner hosted by Tom Ford to celebrate his runway show during London Collections: Men on Wednesday (January 9) at Loulou’s in London, England.

The guys were joined by their wives Sam Taylor-Johnson and Livia Firth.

Colin worked with Tom on the film A Single Man in 2009.

Tom Ford reveals his film A Single Man was based on his own family By Liz Hoggard (YAHOO)

American fashion designer-turned-film director Tom Ford has revealed that his 2009 Oscar nominated movie, 'A Single Man', which starred Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, was partly autobiographical.

In an interview with the 'Times' newspaper, he  explained that the script of the film, inspired by a Christopher Isherwood short story about a fastidious, suicidal academic, was deeply resonant to his own life.

"There were scenes right out of our lives: my sister, my mother, the emotions," he said. "The way I was feeling at the time. I didn't know if I cared if I lived or died. Where is the beauty of the world? Discovering the beauty of the world, having an epiphany. I've had those moments where time stands still and I think: 'It's OK'."
