Benedict Cumberbatch has put an end to rumours that he has a part in Star Wars Episode 7.

The actor has said that an appearance from him in JJ Abrams’ blockbuster ‘won’t happen’ despite wanting a part in it.

Australian entertainment site The Iris, who was live tweeting Benedict’s Q&A at OzComicCon, reports him as saying: ‘I would’ve liked a part in JJ’s new Star Wars but it won’t happen sadly.’

He also dismissed the chance of being involved with another hugely popular sci-fi series, Doctor Who.

‘I’m never gonna play The Doctor and nothing to do with the Whoniverse’ he revealed.

You can almost hear the dreams of thousands of Whovians shattering into tiny pieces.

New role: Richard Armitage is to star in a new production of The Crucible

Newcomer Samantha Colley has been picked to appear with Hobbit heartthrob Richard Armitage in one of the year’s most important theatrical productions.

The 23-year-old from the West Country will form a lustful - but highly dangerous - liaison with Armitage in a new production of Arthur Miller’s classic The Crucible, which begins performances at the Old Vic Theatre on June 24.

She will play Abigail Williams, a love-struck girl who persuades god-fearing (and married)  John Proctor to ‘lapse’, and then, when he doesn’t want to ‘lapse’ any more, charts a spiteful course for revenge in 17th-century Salem, Massachusetts.

Suave: Colin Firth cut a figure much younger than his 53 years when he stepped out in New York City on Wednesday

He's often been talked about as the English version of George Clooney.

But Colin Firth deserves praise in his own right for his look after he cut a figure much younger than his 53 years when he stepped out in the US actor's home nation on Wednesday.

The Railway Man actor looked extremely dapper in a black suit as he arrived at the Trump hotel in New York City with his assistant in tow.

Colin added a crisp white shirt and a dark blue tie to his dignified look, which was completed by a pair of shiny black shoes.

The star wore his trademark thick-rimmed spectacles as he strolled along the street looking very relaxed with his hands in his pockets.

Colin appeared to be in great spirits as he giggled away while being pictured which showed off his pearly white teeth.

Richard Armitage praises The Hobbit's Peter Jackson for creating 'strong' female character

INDEPENDENT
JESS DENHAM  Author Biography
Thursday 10 April 2014

Richard Armitage has spoken out about female representation and praised The Hobbit's Peter Jackson for creating Evangeline Lilly’s “battle-hardened” elf, Tauriel.

Controversy over the addition of a new character was fierce, with Tolkien purists offended by the change to the original storyline.

“A lot of people didn’t like the idea of them inventing a character, but I think they’ve completely proved the critics wrong by creating a strong, compelling, battle-hardened, female elf warrior,” said Armitage, who plays dwarf leader Thorin in the franchise.

The British actor, 42, told The Independent that he believes The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is “better for it”, despite criticism over the move.

Elle Richardson meets Benedict Cumberbatch at Oz Comic-Con Adelaide

TNT MAGAZINE
10th Apr 2014 1:15pm | By Elle Richardson

Elle and Benedict Cumberbatch

Yes - it finally happened. I met Benedict Cumberbatch... in Adelaide.

Benedict Cumberbatch is nothing short of a superstar - albeit a reluctant one. At 37, he has a prolific career, but is best known for his modern portrayal of Sherlock on the BBC. His appearance at Oz Comic-Con Adelaide was a clear indication of his growing popularity in Australia, with crowds lining up for hours for photos and autographs on both days.

Aside from being the owner of the famed 'cumberbooty' coveted by thousands of fans worldwide, he is intelligent, talented and surprisingly humble. Panels at Oz Comic-Con Adelaide revealed he is also an advocateof prisoner education through the provision of books, and perhaps even more admirably, he freely discussed the importance of talking about mental health - despite the chance of negative publicity. When asked by me in his first panel where he would go and what he would do if he had a day off in any city in the world, he initially stated the Barossa Valley (a wine region in South Australia), eliciting cheers from the crowd.

He then said he preferred to “head for the hills”, getting back to nature and enjoying some privacy, which I’d imagine is rare these days for someone so recognisable.

As one of 50 lucky meet and greet participants on Saturday night, I was already delirious, having packed and flown in early that morning. Needless to say I was gobsmacked when Benedict bounded in with a Tigger-like exuberance that seemed superhuman in the circumstances. This was amplified when he commented (as he sat down) that WE must have all had a long day.

He listened earnestly to questions and gave thoughtful, eloquent answers, keeping everyone smiling with his sparkling conversation, peppered with the odd delightfully-accented swear word. In the quick 10 minutes he was at my table he answered two questions, discussing the motivations behind his character Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, and my own question about the intricacies of voice acting in Cabin Pressure.

Are Naomi Campbell and Michael Fassbender DATING?

YAHOO CELEBRITY UK

Michael Fassbender and Naomi Campbell are apparently dating. Copyright (Splash)

As if things couldn't get any worse than him already not being our boyfriend.

Michael Fassbender has broken our hearts after apparently being spotted snogging Naomi Campbell.

So not only are we not swapping spit him on a daily basis, he's instead doing the pants dance with a ruddy supermodel.

According to The Sun (damn them, DAMN THEM TO HELL), the pair were spotted kissing at club Coya in Mayfair last week.

A spy claimed to see the couple cordoned off in a 'VIP area' and were totally sucking face in front of the rest of the club.

Apparently, Naomi had spent the earlier part of the evening at a separate fashion event, where she was overheard telling pals about her date later that evening.

Michael was thought to be dating his 12 Years A Slave co-star, Lupita Nyong'o, although clearly not any more.

More recent rumours suggest he's been spending plenty of time with model Madalina Diana Ghenea, we can't TAKE ANY MORE OF THIS.

Colin Firth is About to Make His Fans Very, Very Happy

BBC AMERICA
By Leah Rozen | Posted on April 9th, 2014

Benedict Cumberbatch isn’t the only one who has been busy, busy, busy. So has fellow English actor Colin Firth.

The Oscar winning star, who has been absent from movie screens since the release of the little seen road movie Arthur Newman nearly a year ago, has a surfeit of new films opening in the next few weeks and months.

Colin Firth attends the New York premiere of The Railway Man on Monday, April 7, 2014. (Andy Kropa/Invision/AP)

First up is The Railway Man, an inspirational drama based on a true story that arrives in movie theaters this Friday (April 12). Firth portrays Eric Lomax, a middle aged, British World War II vet who can’t put to rest his memories of being tortured by the Japanese when, as a soldier, he was a prisoner of war in Burma. Nicole Kidman plays the sympathetic woman he marries who helps him confront his past.

Here’s the scene where Firth and Kidman’s characters first meet:

Come May 9, Firth will play a Yank and a Southerner when he portrays a private investigator in Devil’s Knot. His character, based on a real person, volunteers to help the lawyers defending a teenager who, along with two other teens, was tried and convicted–many believe mistakenly–for the killing of three young boys in 1993 in a celebrated case that came to be known as the West Memphis Three. The film, which had its premiere last fall at the Toronto Film Festival, suffered in the estimation of most critics when compared with earlier, more thorough documentaries on the same topic.

'Tonight Show': Colin Firth reveals 'Pride & Prejudice' lake scene never happened, but mystery solved: It's 'Lost in Austen'

ZAP2IT
By Andrea Reiher
Apr 08th, 2014

During Monday's (April 7) appearance on "The Tonight Show," guest Colin Firth reveals to Jimmy Fallon that the iconic "Pride & Prejudice" scene where he supposedly emerges from a lake in a clingy shirt, dripping wet, never actually happened, despite the fact that it got voted as the most memorable drama moment in British TV history last summer -- which led to a giant statue of the moment being created in Hyde Park.

In the above video, Firth says, "It never happened. I never got out of a lake in a white shirt. ... They've turned me into Ursula Andress from the end of the Bond movie ... a stunt guy jumped into a kind of algae-ridden pond and then it cut to me ... then it got singled out as a memorable moment ... and now 20 years later it's the only thing that happened and they've added the emergence from the lake, which actually never took place."

Martin Clunes's Travelling Life

TRAVEL
Interview by Sarah Madden2:47PM BST 03 Apr 2014

Martin Clunes's Travelling Life

How often do you travel?

When I was filming the television series Doc Martin, I didn't get to go anywhere except travel between my home in Dorset and on location in Cornwall. But when I started making documentaries my travels escalated tremendously and I got to go to some amazing places.

What do you need for a perfect holiday?

Just my wife Philippa and my daughter Emily. My wife and I try to surprise each other with a weekend away to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or Valentine’s Day. My best attempt at complete surprise was for her birthday about two years ago when we went to Vienna and took her on a carriage ride to see the Lipizzaner stallions at the Spanish Riding School.

Your most adventurous travel experience?

Every since I was a child I’ve had a fascination with Madagascar. A few years ago I got to go there to make a documentary about lemurs and it was a dream come true. I made a four-hour steep uphill trek into the primary rain forest - the hardest thing I have ever done physically. But every tree looked like a city of its own, and every bough a town, each covered in plant and insect life.

Have you ever been on safari?

I spent time at the Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge in Kenya at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro for a documentary. I was in a camp used by the American conservationist Cynthia Moss who has made a life's study of elephant behaviour. I got to know an elephant called Nina there who had spent 20 or so years in a small private zoo having been orphaned as a calf. She was big, fat and spoilt but full of character. I established a rapport with her by spoiling her with bananas and sugar cane. We got along just fine before we had to translocate her 300 miles or so to the conservationist Tony Fitzjohn's camp at Mkomazi in Tanzania where she lived free for 12 years.

But more recently I was in Kenya to film a documentary about a lion, which took three years but was a true labour of love for me. We wanted to tell the story of Fitzjohn, a wayward youth who made his way to Kenya's Kora National Park, near the border with Somalia. He worked with the conservationist George Adamson there, who was eventually killed by Somali herdsmen and his camp was completely destroyed. Tony has rebuilt the camp called ‘Kampi ya Simba’ since. Everything has been perfectly replicated and I got to stay in what would have been George's tent which was a huge thrill.

I've had a passion for lions from the time my mother took me to see the film Born Free and it stirred something in me. I sought out Joy Adamson's books Born Free, Living Free and Forever Free and read them back to back. Each black and white photo from the books was burned onto my mind’s eye and the thrill of visiting some these places and meeting the people who did these things has been enormous.

TOM HIDDLESTON'S LATEST JAGUAR COMMERCIAL IS EVEN SEXIER THAN THE FIRST — VIDEO

BUSTLE

God dammit Tom Hiddleston, you can’t just do this to us. Tom Hiddleston in one Jaguar commerical was already a lot, but Tom Hiddleston in another Jaguar commerical? Doing some kind of Shakespeare-James Bond mashup of devilish posh Britishness? It might just be too much.

The first of Hiddleston’s campaign with Jaguar came just in time for February’s Super Bowl and included other British poshers like Ben Kingsley and Mark Strong discussing the theory that British people — particularly British dudes with great voices — make the best villains. All it was missing was an Idris Elba and a Benedict Cumberbatch.

Richard Armitage on Game of Thrones: Hobbit star could be tempted by role in 'brilliant' show

INDEPENDENT
JESS DENHAM  Author Biography   Monday 07 April 2014

Richard Armitage has said he would be tempted by a role in Game of Thrones, should makers of the fantasy TV series express interest.

The British actor, who plays dwarf leader Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit franchise, described the US show as “brilliant” and noted its similarities to Peter Jackson’s Tolkien blockbusters

“I’ve watched a couple of episodes of Game of Thrones,” he told The Independent ahead of the DVD release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

“It’s very close to The Hobbit and quite close to [past project] Robin Hood, so I probably ought to do something more contemporary.

April 6, 2014

LONDON -- Benedict Cumberbatch is to play Richard III in Neal Street Productions' film for the BBC.

"Richard III" is part of a series of Shakespeare's History plays, which also includes "Henry VI" in two parts. Dominic Cook‎e, who was artistic director of the Royal Court Theater from 2007 to 2013, will direct all three films.

Cumberbatch said: "I can't wait to work with Dominic Cooke again to bring this complex, funny and dangerous character to life."

The films, which will air on BBC Two, rep Cook‎e's screen debut. The plays were adapted by Ben Power, who is associate director of the National Theater.

Neal Street, which is led by Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris and Caro Newling, also produced the first series of Shakespeare's History plays for the BBC, "The Hollow Crown," which covered "Richard II" and "Henry IV," Part One and Two, and "Henry V." Power adapted the screenplays for "Richard II" and "Henry V."

The films are co-produced by NBCUniversal's Carnival and WNET. Rupert Ryle-Hodges ("Downton Abbey") will produce. Executive producers are Mendes, Harris and Nicolas Brown for Neal Street, Gareth Neame for Carnival/NBCU, and David Horn for WNET.

Kevin Doyle on Downton Abbey and swapping serial killers and servants for an alpha male

Kevin Doyle is fed up of playing serial killers. And servants (most famously as Mr Molesley in ITV's Downton Abbey). BBC1's new WW1 drama The Crimson Field affords him the opportunity to step into some alpha male shoes as Colonel Roland Brett, and he's relishing it. "It's nice to be giving orders rather than receiving them," he told RadioTimes.com. "It took me a while to get used to being a figure of authority - to have someone with quiet authority who is rather placid."

But besides acting creepy, it turns out there are other downsides to being typecast as a murderer. "I played a killer in the Lakes a few years ago and somebody screamed at me on the tube once. I thought, 'Oh god, have I got to get used to his now?"

And when he's not giving viewers a fright, he's getting mistaken for a handyman. "I got somebody who asked me, did you do my central heating last year?" Lord Grantham would never have to put up with this...
