Tom Hiddleston in Early Talks for ‘The Crow’ Remake Posted on Friday, April 19th, 2013 by Angie Han (FILM)

Relativity’s remake of The Crow has gone through several potential leading men over the past couple of years. Bradley Cooper was attached for a while; when he left, Mark Wahlberg and Channing Tatum were eyed as replacements. As recently as February, James McAvoy was circling the project. Now, it’s Tom Hiddleston‘s turn to flirt with the role.

The Avengers actor is reportedly in early talks to play Eric Draven, the protagonist played by Brandon Lee in the 1994 movie. F. Javier Gutierrez is directing the new film.

Hiddleston isn’t closing in on a deal quite yet, but he has already met with producers and submitted a makeup test. In the following days, he’ll undergo another makeup test to make sure he can get Draven’s look just right. According to sources who spoke with The Wrap, the producers, who include Ed Pressman, Kevin Misher, and Relativity’s Ryan Kavanaugh and Jeff Most, are intrigued by both Hiddleston’s versatility and his physical talents.

James McAvoy: At the Movies: ‘Trance’ is Eye-catching

By Megan Bianco

We’ve had a few films already this year with surprising plot twists like Side Effects, Stoker and The Place Beyond the Pines, and Trance follows suit effectively. Boyle’s fast-paced, flashy style and Rick Smith’s score fit Joe Ahearne and John Hodge’s script memorably and intriguingly. McAvoy proves that he is capable of playing nice guys and bad guys, while Dawson carries the film just fine as one of 2013’s smartest characters thus far. What Inception did for dreams on screen, Trance does for memories.

BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH: Wicked in new Star Trek Trailer

Paul McCartney still tops the richest musician in Britain list (caribbean360.com)

LONDON, England, Friday April 19, 2013 – At the ripe old age of 70, former Beatles and Wings star Sir Paul McCartney is still the richest musician in Britain, booting “Cats” creator Andrew Lloyd-Webber into the doghouse; giving U2 a big “you, too” and conveying a clear message to Elton John to “Get Back, Honky Cat,” not to mention leaving Mick Jagger with no “Satisfaction”.

McCartney's £680 million (US$1.04 billion) fortune put him in the top spot on the Sunday Times Rich List 2013, which will be published in full on April 21, and ranks the UK and Ireland's richest musicians.

The ranking is nothing new for the vintage entertainer who has topped all the charts for the country's wealthiest musicians since the Rich List’s inception in 1989. At that time he was only worth a paltry £80 million.

Apart from his featured appearances at Queen Elizabeth's diamond jubilee and both the opening and closing ceremonies for the London Olympics, the former Beatle's "On the Run" tour grossed US$57 million last year.

Plumping-up his total was his millionairess third wife Nancy Shevell's stake in her father's New England Motor Freight empire.

Dan Stevens: Downton Abbey Creator Julian Fellowes Says A Polite ‘Sod Off’ To Dan Stevens 16 hours ago (CRUSHABLE)

by Alexis Rhiannon

Maybe you think I’m belaboring this point by still not being over the fact that Dan Stevens so unceremoniously left Downton Abbey, but if you’ve ever seen the show, you know that my response is perfectly natural. Dan played Matthew Crawley on the show, and I don’t think I’m exaggerating to say that he and Lady Mary were the Jim and Pam of their time. The will-they-won’t-they is what kept me getting up in the morning and marching into the cold cruel world of New York dating. I knew that no matter how many Evelyn Napiers I came across who were willing to blackmail me within an inch of my petticoats, there was one shimmering glimmering Matthew Crawley hiding amongst them, ready to dab my brow and grin at me ruefully from underneath his blond tips.

But now I no longer get to cling to that fantasy because (SPOILER ALERT!) it turns out that when you love someone and they love you, and you cross time and space to meet in the middle and get married and have a baby…he dies in a fucking car accident on the way home and bleeds out from his headbrain. How tasteful. And how sudden, too, you might be thinking, eh? Well, I agree. And you know who else might agree? Julian Fellowes, the show’s creator. He wants everyone to know that it wasn’t his choice to end things so abruptly — he wanted to leave the pair with more of a happy ever after, but Dan made it impossible:

Sarah Paulson plays Michael Fassbender's wife in Steve McQueen's 'Twelve Years A Slave', and she has nothing but the highest praises for him.

Paulson was recently interviewed by Vanity Fair, and when asked about working with Fassbender in the film, she said, "He’s really the most spectacular creature. That was a pretty amazing job. I play a very horrible, racist woman, but I think the movie is going to be very powerful."

She adds, "I just looped a little bit of it the other day to re-record some dialogue and it was my first time seeing some of it. It looks incredible. I feel very proud to be a part of it. Steve McQueen is a genius, a really special filmmaker."

Colin Firth and Emily Blunt Plan an Escape at ‘Arthur Newman’ Preem (VARIETY)

Tragicomedy made L.A. debut on April 18

Sean Fitz-Gerald
@srkfitzgerald

“The ultimate message,” said helmer Dante Ariola, “is that you can take on other identities, but in the end you gotta own up to who you really are.”

Such is the thrust of Cinedigm’s “Arthur Newman,” which made its L.A. preem April 18 at Hollywood’s ArcLight. Pic follows a failed golfer (Colin Firth), who fakes his death, changes his name and hits the road to reinvent himself. Cast and crew, as well as other celebs, walked a bite-sized red carpet before the screening — and proved that even Hollywood’s rich and famous entertain fantasies of escape and reinvention.

Blunt and Firth pair up in the tragicomedy and break into people’s houses to pose as the owners — who range, in character, from hipster to wealthy to geriatric.

“My life has been that, in a way,” Firth said. “To do something as unrealistic as acting is that in itself. In some ways, I don’t really have as strong an instinct to actually escape from my life as perhaps some people do, because I do it so regularly. I mean, every time I do a film or a play or whatever it is, it’s an excursion away from reality.”

Benedict Cumberbatch: SHERLOCK PRODUCER ASKS FANS TO TONE IT DOWN A NOTCH, STOP POSTING SET PHOTOS AND SPOILERS ONLINE by Rebecca Pahle (THE MARY SUE)

The Sherlock fandom can, at times, be a bit… intense. That’s not an insult: The show debuted three years ago, and since then they’ve only had nine hours of show to watch. What fandom wouldn’t get a little (OK, a lot) eccentric? Thus: Fandom crossing into real life with the #BelieveinSherlock movement, a Bee Gees pigeon, and a collection of insane gifs that other fandoms can only dream of.

But now that the third season is finally filming, producer Sue Vertue has asked more obsessed Sherlockians to try and reign it in just a tad. She sent the following message to fan site Sherlockology:

Hi, Sue Vertue here.

As many of you are aware, we'll soon be embarking on our first London leg of filming for series 3.  I'm also aware that there is quite a lot of speculation about where we're shooting when.  I can't stress how  much we the Producers and Benedict, Martin and the rest of the cast appreciate your love and dedication to our show - we'll endeavour to live up to your expectations for Series 3.

What I am nervous about is that our London shooting schedule is punishing and will really give us very little time to interact with you.  The actors really hope you understand that...

“Hugh Bonneville has a fine arse” Lara Pulver on the Sherlock effect, why she’s embracing more sex and violence in Da Vinci’s Demons and the lure of Bond

By PAUL SIMPER
Last Updated: 19th April 2013

FORMER Sherlock actress Lara Pulver plays Clarice Orsini, the seductive wife of Lorenzo Medici, in David Goyer’s violent, raunchy fantastical imagining of the life of the young Leonardo Da Vinci, Da Vinci’s Demons...

Lara, last time we spoke you had just finished Spooks and were flying back to LA when you got a call from a certain [Sherlock co-creator] Steven Moffat.

Mr Moffat. I did indeed. I wrapped Spooks then read the episode of Sherlock — A Scandal In Belgravia — on the plane back to LA. They said to me: “Come back” but I’d literally just landed so I managed to persuade them to let me tape myself in Los Angeles and send it over. I said: “Let’s use the fact that I’m eight hours behind you. You watch it and tomorrow if you still want me to fly I will wake up at 7am and I will get on the first plane.” [Laughs.] And that’s what I did.

Has it been a life-changing role?

It really has. It’s been a catapult into the big world of the industry.

Have fantasy fans been excited about you being cast in Da Vinci’s Demons from the moment it was announced?

I think David Goyer has such a loyal fan base that there has been that, but there’s been a lot of mystique about this show and what it actually is. There’s a lot of humour — dark humour as well as wit. Then there’s a childlike element. David Goyer has managed to create this mystical world where anything is possible. We’re challenging everything we thought we knew about this man — Leonardo da Vinci — and saying there’s a huge part of his history [between the ages of 18-33] that we don’t know about. So David Goyer is showing him as a Renaissance superhero.

People do also get their kit off, don’t they? Firstly Hugh Bonneville...
He stepped up.

With a fine arse.

Yes, very well put. It’s a fine arse!

Do you also have your moments?

I think the show isn’t unflinching in any way. Whether it’s sex, violence, religion, politics — we face everything head on. It’s bold. And yet not for one second did I feel uncomfortable with any of the subject matter. Actually it was just thought-provoking.

HENRY CAVILL: 'Fifty Shades of Grey' at CinemaCon: Producer talks film, Henry Cavill attends (Photos) FIFTY SHADES OF GREYAPRIL 18, 2013BY: BARBIE KAVETSKY (EXAMINER)

The biggest surprise of CinemaCon 2013 was the appearance of Henry Cavill. While many would expect the new Superman to be seen at the Warner Bros. presentation of exclusive content, Cavill was photographed by Sipa Press with girlfriend Gina Carano with the caption, "Henry Cavill and Gina Carano attend as Universal Pictures presents their slate." Henry has no future projects with Universal but Gina Carano is currently promoting "The Fast and the Furious 6." Henry Cavill has long been a favorite to play Christian Grey in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" film.

Henry Cavill has deep roots with "Fifty Shades of Grey." As Stephanie Meyer's first choice to play Edward in the "Twilight" series, Cavill could be seen as inspiration for E L James' more mature version of the same character in her fan fiction, which eventually became the "Fifty Shades" trilogy. Many fans also speculate that James, a London resident, used Cavill's British Dunhill Fragrance ad as additional inspiration for the character of Christian, from sports cars to helicopters, the advertisement is reminiscent of the billionaire CEO.

Casting the "Man of Steel" in such an erotic and racy film is a dicey move which may be the reason behind a delayed announcement. Warner Bros. would not be thrilled with controversy before the Superman revamp hits theaters June 14. While there is no confirmation that Henry Cavill has any connection to "Fifty Shades of Grey," there are plenty of fans hoping E L James has her heart set on the actor. Cavill himself said of the film,"whether that happens, that decision will be made at the time it has to be made, it would be a very different kind of thing than Man of Steel."

Pierce Brosnan: charm is all he needs (THE IRISH TIMES)

BY TARA BRADY

Let’s be honest. There is one adjective that describes Pierce Brosnan best. He is smooth. He is smoother than the smoothest surface sold in Smooth and Co. When he inherited the part of James Bond from Timothy Dalton, he made that fine actor seem, in retrospect, like a Welsh gorilla. That suaveness served Brosnan well while playing a variation on Tony Blair in Roman Polanski’s The Ghost . He smoothed his way delightfully (though not always tunefully) through Abba classics in Mamma Mia!

You don’t need to see him in Susanne Bier’s fine Love is All You Need to savour the Brosnan silk in action. Just listen to him talk about it.

“I did it two summers ago in Sorrento with the wonderful Susanne,” he says. “I had the time of my life. I do love this film. You get the warm embrace of a move that has heart and love.”

In the Oscar-winning Bier’s gorgeous new film, Trine Dyrholm plays a breast-cancer survivor who, while attending a wedding in Italy, becomes involved with the sleek, widowed father of the groom (not played by Timothy Dalton). Brosnan has, of course, a personal connection with the story. In 1991, Cassandra Harris, his first wife, died of Ovarian cancer, and he has campaigned tirelessly for cancer charities throughout the succeeding two decades.

“It does deal with breast cancer,” he says. “You know, no one ever goes near cancer. They don’t want to. I lost my wife to cancer. So it has that poignancy for me. Susanne had no idea of my personal circumstances when she got in touch. But it’s a man dealing with cancer and being a single father. I felt I knew it. I felt I could play it.

Benedict Cumberbatch talks 'Star Trek' villain role (NME)

Benedict Cumberbatch has teased more details about his role in Star Trek Into Darkness.

The British actor plays the main villain John Harrison in JJ Abrams' forthcoming sci-fi sequel. The character has previously been described as a 'one man weapon of mass destruction'.

Now, the actor has revealed more about the character. He told SFX: "As a psychological terrorist, he's someone who can plant an idea that's as vicious as a bomb and explode loyalties and expose relationships and try and turn people against one another to do his bidding."

The actor continued: "He really disrupts the unity aboard the ship, both physically and mentally. And he's a worthy adversary – there's a lot of shadowplay going on with him and Kirk and Spock, Kirk primarily, but both of those characters – he knows how to manipulate them."

Gerard Butler - Gerard Butler Spooked By Real-life Events Mimicking Olympus Has Fallen 18 April 2013 CONTACT MUSIC)

Actor Gerard Butler has been left spooked as storylines from his new film Olympus Has Fallen play out in real-life as if producers had a premonition about the future

The action thriller, chronicles the rising tensions between North and South Korea, as well as America's attempt to aid their allies before a terrorist attack is carried out on the White House in Washington, D.C.

The film was shot in early 2012, well before the communist country threatened to bomb the United States with nuclear missiles and Butler admits the parallels are startling.

He tells GQ magazine, "It's almost like we had a crystal ball. The headline (of the newspaper) was something like, 'Obama assures South Koreans that the U.S. will back them up.' That's the opening scene for the movie!"

And he's also convinced the film's writers knew it wouldn't be long before a woman was appointed head of the Secret Service.

Angela Bassett's role in the film was originally intended for a man, but the part was rewritten when director Antoine Fuqua opted to cast a woman.

BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH, MARTIN FREEMAN: Rumor control: ‘Sherlock’ series 3 air date set for November 24? By Andrew Sims at 3:15 pm, April 17, 2013 - (HYPABLE)

Over the past 24 hours, a rumor that made its way across Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook suggested that the Sherlock series 3 air date is set for November 24.

So is it true?

We reached out to PBS, who airs Sherlock in the United States, and they told us that no date has been set for Sherlock series 3 in the United States or United Kingdom at this time.

Now for our speculation: it’s probable that no date will be set until the majority of filming is completed. We know that Sherlock series 3 just began shooting episode 2 and the cast will take a break to attend to other duties before moving on to episode 3. So, we may be waiting a while to know the date.

There’s been speculation that Sherlock series 3 will premiere by the end of 2013 or early 2014 at the latest.

Henry Cavill: Ten Things About... Henry Cavill Published Wednesday, Apr 17 2013, 2:29pm EDT | By Richard Gidlow (DIGITAL SPY)

With the latest Man of Steel trailer giving audiences a taste of what to expect, just what else is there to know about the star?

1. Cavill was born on the island of Jersey, to Marianne - a secretary - and Colin - a stockbroker - as the fourth of five sons and with no sisters. He attended boarding school where he began to act in school plays and even directed one.

2. His first major film role was in The Count of Monte Cristo and from there he had various bit-parts in Stardust, Tristan + Isolde and Hellraiser: Hellworld. Hellraiser was almost hell for Cavill after being put in a harness to film a scene but then accidentally being left there while the crew had lunch. Let's hope something similar hasn't happened on Superman - that spandex doesn't look particularly comfortable.

3. Cavill is a patriotic guy and reckons that if he hadn't gone into acting, he'd be in the army or studying at uni. His chosen course? Egyptology - not too specific then! He's also fluent in French and knows some German and Italian, so if you're planning a European break be sure to bring him along!

 th

4. Before his success in The Tudors, Henry auditioned for the role of Cedric Diggory in the fourth Harry Potter film, reaching the final two, but obviously he lost out to a pre-Twilight Robert Pattinson. Not one to be deterred, he auditioned for another teen franchise...

5. That teen franchise was Twilight - awkward much? He was actually author Stephenie Meyer's first choice to play the pale 17-year-old heartthrob, but producers deemed the then-25-year-old Cavill too old, instead offering him the part of Carlisle. As you will know, Pattinson won the part of Edward Cullen and we reckon Cavill might not be his biggest fan. As they say, acting is a young man's game!

Colin Firth: First picture of Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth filming 'Before I Go To Sleep' in London (LONDON EVENING STANDARD)

Louise Jury, Chief Arts Correspondent
18 April 2013

This is the first picture of Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth shooting a new film in London in which she plays a woman who wakes every day remembering nothing.

The movie, Before I Go To Sleep, is based on the bestselling first novel by former NHS clinical scientist SJ Watson.

The book was published two years ago and snapped up by Liza Marshall and Ridley Scott’s production company, Scott Free London.

Rowan Joffé, who directed Brighton Rock, has adapted the book and has been directing the shoot.

Watson told the Standard of his thrill at watching Kidman and Firth bring his book to life. “It was fascinating for me to see somebody totally inhabit this character. She totally embodies what I thought Christine should be,” he said.

“There was one moment where she thought a line gave the wrong tone for Christine and as soon as she said it, I felt she was totally right. It’s weird that Nicole Kidman now knows my character as well as I do.

Although the idea of teaching is less than thrilling, he hopes to make some easy money and enjoy the favors of impressionable young co-eds. What he doesn’t expect to find is romance with a single mom who has gone back to school.”

Pierce Brosnan: "I didn't think I'd find love again, now I live the life of Riley and have a belly" DailyMirror

On screen he’s romanced many of the most beautiful women in the world.

Halle Berry, Meryl Streep, Salma Hayek and Rosamund Pike are just a few to have starred opposite Pierce Brosnan.

But no matter how undoubtedly desirable they all are, his wife Keely is absolutely fine with his on-screen liaisons.

“She calls it ‘legal cheating’,” says the former James Bond star. “My wife is very cool. She has a great sense of humour about it, a great sense of who she is as a woman and security and faith within me.”

To hear Brosnan gush about Keely, it’s no surprise she has complete confidence in their relationship.

“She is the most beautiful woman and someone who has been my North Star for many a day and a year now. We just celebrated 19 years of life together,” he says.

The pair met in 1994 when the former journalist interviewed him, and they tied the knot in Ireland seven years later.

A grief-stricken Brosnan had sworn never to marry again after losing first wife Cassandra to ovarian cancer in 1991, when she was just 43.

The memories of this heart-breaking period in his life, when he was left to bring up their eight year-old son Sean, undoubtedly came flooding back, while making his latest movie, Danish romantic comedy Love Is All You Need. Brosnan gives an acclaimed performance as heartbroken widower and father-of-one Philip, whose life changes after he meets cancer survivor Ida.

Brosnan says: “As a man who has gone through the rigours of loss and dealing with family, I guess there was something there I could draw on.

“I know what it is like to be a widower and what it is like to find love again. So I know there’s hope and that you have to learn to get on with it. Ups and downs are what life is all about. But the memory of Cassie and her fight against cancer is never forgotten.”

Cassie was the one who pushed him to go to Hollywood. That move landed him the starring role in the detective series Remington Steele from 1982 and which ultimately led to him playing 007 in four Bond films.

Sherlock's Lara Pulver Stars In 'Da Vinci's Demons' - Full Of 'Sex, Violence, Religion, Philosophy' In David Goyer's Fantastical World Posted: 16/04/2013 15:55 BST | Updated: 16/04/2013 16:33 BST (HUFF POST)

The last time Lara Pulver removed her clothes, to show Sherlock Holmes who was boss (the whip helped), the Broadcasting Standards Council had to go and have a lie-down.

So when Pulver warns us that her new show is "extremely bold, it's no 'Downton Abbey'", we should probably feel duly warned. The 'Spooks' star plays Clarice Orsini in David Goyer's new ball-busting, brain-aching TV epic 'Da Vinci's Demons' which, according to Pulver, contains "sex, violence, religion, philosophy, it's all there".

With breakthrough star Tom Riley in the title role, and a roll-call including such names as Hugh Bonneville and Laura Haddock, Goyer (writer of Christopher Nolan's 'Batman' trilogy and the forthcoming Superman reboot, 'Man of Steel') has created a world set in the Renaissance of Florence, following the story of the young Leonardo Da Vinci, with the city's battle with Rome throwing up a florid backdrop.

As for her character Clarice Orsini, Pulver describes her thus: "A devoted wife, she loves and supports her husband to the nth degree, she's an all, confidante and to a certain degree the power behind the throne. She's an all-round good egg."

With the huge and diverse cast, all decked out in Renaissance punk costumes, swords flashing and clothes dropping to the floor, 'Da Vinci's Demons' sounds as though it may appeal to the same huge fanbase currently clamouring for 'Game of Thrones'.

With the announcement of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival lineup now within days of being announced, some of the year’s bigger arthouse projects are getting prepared to be thrust into the spotlight, the white hot spotlight, that is, that is brought by the iconic festival.

And one of those films comes to us from director Guillaume Canet.

Entitled Blood Ties, the film features a cast that would surely heat up the Croisette this year, featuring Clive Owen, Mila Kunis, Matthaias Schoenaerts and Zoe Saldana, and is itself a remake of a French film known as Les Liens Du Sang. Canet himself starred in the original film, and this remake tells the tale of two brothers, who head back into a world of gangsters the elder knows far too well (he being a convict himself, played by Owen) with the hopes of helping their family

Hugh Grant filming in Binghamton (PRESS CONNECTS)

Staff report

BINGHAMTON — Brian Nayor was about to leave the Gas Lamp Gym Sunday when Hugh Grant walked by.

So the Binghamton resident, who co-owns and operates the Court Street gym, did what any curious person would do: he slung his bag over his shoulder and walked briskly down the street, catching up with the British actor near the intersection of Court and State streets.

“I looked at him and said, ‘Hi,’ and he said, ‘Hi,’” Nayor recounted Monday. “Then I said, ‘Pardon me for asking, but are you Hugh Grant?’ Then he said, in a very unmistakeable British accent, ‘Yes, yes I am.’”

Grant himself wasn’t the only indication that Binghamton made it into the big-time, cinematically speaking. The film crew was a big tip-off too, said Nayor, an actor with Binghamton’s KNOW Theatre who got Grant to pose with him for a picture.

“He was warm and cordial,” Nayor said of Grant. “He seemed like a mellowed-out guy.”

The star was spotted in other parts of the city, too: specifically the Number 5 restaurant for Sunday dinner, said owner Jim McCoy.

“It’s the only place I would go,” McCoy quipped.

Grant is filming a comedy, currently untitled, under the direction of Binghamton University graduate Marc Lawrence, according to the movie database site IMDb. Marisa Tomei, whose credits include “My Cousin Vinny” and “The Wrestler,” is the co-star of the unnamed project.
